“Comfortable easy stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014

This hotel isn’t on the beach but it’s very close. The staff went out of their way to do whatever they were asked. They gave us instructions for public transport to Diamond Head and they even returned a package for me that was delayed and arrived after I left. They also let me check in very early which was fantastic as I’d flown from Australia!

The location is easy to get to – it’s a few blocks from the beach but it’s only about two blocks to the Royal Hawaiian Centre.
While there isn’t a restaurant or a starbucks that close, the ihop is a tiny block away, right near the bus stop.

The rooms were clean and small but most hotel rooms are. The air con was a bit noisy but most of them are! I didn’t hear any traffic noise.

I’ll probably look at staying there again if I want to travel on a budget.

Highly recommended for a short stay (we stayed 9 nights). They supply towels and have a small gym.
The pool is very small but why would you swim in the pool if the ocean is right there?!

Best part of the stay was probably the free wifi
Worst part – one of the lifts was broken so it was a bit of a wait but there were signs up everywhere about repairs and what to expect so it was fine!

1st off, when I made my reservation my confirmation clearly stated that no deposit was required however I discovered 1 nights charge on my credit card well before out stay. I called the hotel directly and was initially not helped at all by the front desk person. I called the toll free number and was able to get that deposit credited back to me. I do not like to have to pay anthing in advance if I can help it.
the hotel is nicely decorated but the rooms were somewhat small. Staff was very nice, helped us with restaurant suggestion and reservation, and let us keep our bags at the hotel after our checkout. Parking is valet only but at least it was convenient. There was a tiny pool but we didn't use it.
Location of hotel was good. Its not right in the restaurant/beach/shopping area, but just a short walk away. I wouldn't walk it schlepping a ton a beach/kid stuff, but for us it was a great location. Also, I reserved a city view (cheapest) but somehow we got upgraded to canal view for free. that view was great. Overall, I was quite happy with the hotel and would stay again. I though it was a very good value considering the high prices in the area overall.

We started our honeymoon here for 3 nights and it was great! We had a room that overlooked the river in the back. The room also had a balcony, which was great to utilize for snorkeling gear and for beers in the late afternoon. This hotel is a quick walk from Waikiki beach and all of the restaurants and liquor store, and close to the bus stops which will take you to Hanumana bay, Diamond Head, etc. (The bus system is excellent!) There was a fridge and microwave in the room so we were able to reheat leftovers and have cold beers after a long day. The pool was small, but you probably won't end up using it anyway being so close to the beach.

The free wifi was great in the rooms, rooms were a decent size and clean. Breakfast was also fantastic - I usually try to find a hotel with an included breakfast because I love waffles in the morning! This place did not disappoint. On our last day we had to check-out a few hours before we left on our next flight, so the front desk held our luggage and allowed us to dry our swimsuits and shower in the pool area. Also, we had planned to heat up some leftovers for lunch using the microwave from the breakfast buffet. When we went to go heat up the items we realized the microwave had been put away. Thankfully, the front desk staff were nice enough to bring the microwave out for us to use!

*Tip: The concierge (Clayton) hooked us up with a day car rental via Shaka Tours. It was the cheapest deal on the island and within walking distance of the hotel.
(We stayed in August 2012 but I am a bit late in reviewing!).

We loved our stay here. This hotel is one of the cleanest places we stayed in. Customer service was awesome. Pete was very knowledgeable and very helpful. They offered free wifi, coffee maker, complimentary water in the room, lots of TV channels and a perfect location for a morning walk along Ala wai canal. Small swimming pool from 8-10pm. A lot of places to sit around down the lobby. They always have water and iced tea in the lobby. We recommend eating at Siam Square Thai restaurant, just a block away. This restaurant offers an authentic Thai food. We will definitely come back.

If you treat hotels, like we do, to deliver on cleanliness, excellent sleeps, and thoughtful extras including service, Coconut Waikiki is a perfect choice. We knew there may have been some issues regarding decor, but the age of the building allows for little else but superficial design. I am sure they will keep up with looking after any scruffy corners. With rooms not offering a huge amount of space, they need to watch that the finish of the rooms keeps up to standard. What was most impressive was the staff, who give you an enormous welcome and will help you at a drop of a hat. Beach towels presented in a bag, beautiful soaps in bathrooms, and crisp sheets, delicious pillows and THE most comfortable bed - what more do you need when the hotel itself offers a happy ambience and it is less than 10 minutes walk to the beach and Roy's!

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a view based on other reviews.

This was our third stay at the Coconut, although it has changed hands since our last trip. The staff are excellent and very accommodating. We booked our room at the last minute and received an upgrade on arrival. The mountain view rooms are fantastic - comfortable beds, nice decor, good bathroom & basic kitchen facilities (microwave, small fridge, basic crockery and cutlery). The last time we stayed, the hotel provided breakfast but it does not do so any more. This was not a problem though as we were able to eat breakfast in the room with the bowls etc provided.
We noticed certain aspects of the rooms were starting to look a little worn since our last trip. They seemed to be upgrading the lifts when we were there so perhaps the rooms will be next. I will certainly stay here on my next trip.

I stayed here with my wife and son from the 10th to 22nd December.
On previous visits to Hawaii we have stayed at the more expensive Marriott Resort and Spa and the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel ( both on busy Kalakaua avenue) but if we returned again would stay at the Coconut.
We were a little disappointed on seeing the room as the website points towards a fully renovated hotel but it's more of a redecorated hotel. However we soon got over this a grew to really like the hotel.
The staff make the place, they are very attentive and very friendly, something you just don't get at the bigger hotels. J J in particular was an absolute star and even put the English Premier league on the lobby area TV for us at 02:45 in the morning so we could watch Manchester City, thanks JJ !!
Free beach towels, WiFi and drinks in the lobby was a real bonus.
We stayed in room 407 with a lovely mountain view but would recommend that you ask for a floor as high as possible as the noise from the street outside can be quite loud and goes on for most of the night.
