“Great spot”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

This hotel is much better value now that Aqua have taken it over. Yes it's an older place, but very comfortable and the views of the sea are wonderful. Ask for a front room above 16th floor. The lanais are large and create a lovely sitting out spot . Admittedly the weak points are the airconditioners as others have mentioned. They're not too efficient and in the past the check in staff were truly hopeless. Leave plenty of time to check out !!! Overall I love it.

Room Tip: Corner one bedroom suites with cooking are great. Above 16th floor is the only way to get sea views.

Aloha Reidrs,

Thank you so much for recognizing the efforts and improvements that Aqua Hotels & Resorts has made in the short time that we have been managing the Aqua Pacific Monarch. We are very much enjoying polishing this wonderfulo property and we have been very blessed to have inherited some fantastic team members. We will continue to collect feedback from our guests to focus on which areas we would like to address first so thank you for also sharing some areas of opportunity. We hope to continue welcoming you back for years to come.

Warm Regards,

First the positives, a great location 2 mins stroll from waikiki beach and close to food pantry supermarket, small but nice rooftop pool, comfy bed and well equipped kitchen.
The not so good? Air con in room is inadequate for the room size and noisy, and doesn't put air into the bedroom. Don't stay here in summer! I felt staff were inattentive and a couple almost rude when I raised issues such as the internet in my room not working (someone ripped it from the wall) and bath plug broken. No full receipt on checkout and no bill explanation. The price is high for an ocean view room which on a lower floor as allocated to me felt like a rip off really, the view was more of the car park and a couple of seedier looking motels plus the Hyatt looming large in front of the beach.

Room Tip: Higher floor or look elsewhere if u want ocean view.

The hotel, although not the newest, was very clean and neat. It was in a great location for us -- we walked each night to the Waikiki beach and shops, Duke's Lane, etc. The kitchen was a great perk -- we were able to use the oven to bake pre-cooked meals from the grocery store and were able to only have to eat one meal each day out. There were three of us on the trip. A married couple and single man (all family). I think it was ideal for a couple or a family since privacy would be an issue otherwise. There was a bedroom with a door and then a pull out couch in the living room. There was only one bathroom and it was off of the living room. The balcony was accessed through the living room and bedroom. The most obvious inconvenience if you're "sharing" the room was there was only a window air conditioning unit which was in the living room. If you closed the bedroom door, and it was a warm evening outside, the bedroom would get a bit stuffy/hot by morning. Overall, it worked great for us. The two I traveled with have been to Hawaii over sixteen times (yearly trips) and they have stayed here for the last 10+years. Depending on your traveling group and needs, this could be a great choice for you! Nice pool and hot tub on the roof, too, with BEAUTIFUL views of Diamond Head and the Waikiki Beach!

From the moment we walked into the foyer we felt as though we were in a 1970"s time warp - huge mosaic , fish tank and water feature . Not that that is a major problem for me but it just felt old and dated.
The room was of similar vein - your typical old shower over the bath with cheap curtain , noisy old air conditioner right next to the bed .
I must say the position of the hotel was great - 100 meters walk from the heart of waikiki .
If your looking for budget accommodation in a great spot this is it .

This was our second stay at this hotel. The previous was on the 6th floor 1bedroom, with no ocean view. This time round, at the renamed Aqua Pacific Monarch, we were lodged on the 29th floor, complete with lanai and full kitchen.
The checkin was painless. The clerk was capable and efficient. We got exactly what we had booked.
Want to save money? Make a quick trip to a nearby Safeway store, and you're set for your stay. Our room had all the basic kitchen amenities, corkscrew included.
Although the rooms weren't modern, they were clean, adequately furnished and offered a great view of the ocean. The lanai was a treat.
Danny, one of the many courteous staff, went out of his way to accommodate our elderly mother when she was a little disoriented on the first day. He walked her to the room and assisted her in gaining entry. The cleaning staff were superb.
We won't hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Mahalo.

We have stayed at the Pacific Monarch 4 times over the past few years and have had no problems. We usually rent the condos by the week so maybe having this under Hotels is something new over the past year or so. Location is excellent and roof top pool is amazing for views. Have never stayed lower than 16th floor so we've always had great views from the units too. There is a fantastic fish tank that spans almost the entire wall across from the elevators. Free movie dvd's from public lounge just under pool level. We have been to Hawaii 9 times and we always check here first for availability and good prices. Last stay was 3 years ago.

Aloha Witch666,

Thank you for sharing your feedback of your visit of the Pacific Monarch in February 2013. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time. Since your last visit, we have changed management of the property to Aqua Hotels & Resorts. We are enjoying the new addition to our Aqua Ohana (family) and are excited to continue making improvements to an already fantastic property. One of the most positively received changes is the elimination of the "Amenity Fee" that was once imposed upon all guests. We have since removed this mandatory fee and we still offer complimentary WIFI access as well as local telephone calls on the Island of Oahu. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Aqua Pacific Monarch Hotel! Mahalo for staying with us!

I absolutely loved my stay at the Pacific Monarch. My boyfriend and I were in to visit his sister, who lived literally across the street from this hotel. We stayed at three different hotels for this trip but wished we could spend every day here. (We spent three nights total.) The rooms were nice with awesome patios. The location is perfect for Waikiki and we had a kitchenette, even in our studio room. We upgraded to one bedroom- very spacious and nice. The staff was very nice. We didn't have a car so we didn't have to worry about towing- the bus stop is right across from the hotel. If I come back, every night will be booked here. While the hotel has no restaurant or breakfast, the price is well worth it and it is close to other food joints.

Room Tip: Ocean view is beautiful but not worth it for the extra cash. The studios are cozy and have a toaster...
