Aqua Pacific Monarch is a mixed bag. It is an older hotel, the foyer could do with a makeover as could the hospitality room on the rooftop and the hallway carpets, however the view from the room made up for some of its downfalls. We had a 1 bedroom room with Ocean views. When we first arrived we were given a room on the 15th floor, it had twin beds and we preferred to have a double bed. We were moved the next morning to room 2902. The view was spectacular, almost 360 degrees, from diamond head, the Waikiki beachfront and beyond. The room had a microwave, good sized fridge and oven. Only 1 aircon unit, which was in the main living area. The bedroom was hot, even though it's the winter. A quick 4 minute walk to the beach and 2 mins to an ABC store. The bus was just across the road, very handy. The wifi didn't work but the staff gave us a cable for the computer, which worked well. All in all a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher level. 31 being the highest.

    Aloha garykerrie,

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback about your recent visit with us at the Aqua Pacific Monarch Hotel. Please accept our apologies that your first room bedding configuration was not suitable for your needs. I am glad to hear that you were moved to a room to your liking with a spectacular view! Additionally, we regret to hear that the air conditioner was not cooling the room to keep you comfortable and we have been assessing the condition of the air conditioners and solutions for the bedrooms. We are also looking at some enhancements for the common areas as well as the hospitality room to make it even more inviting. We hope that you will continue to return to see the improvements based on our valued guests feedback, Thank you for staying with us!

    Warm Regards,

I stayed at the APM with my family. There were 5 of us total. We had a room on the 16th floor with ocean view. The bedroom was small, two twin beds and we squeezed a roll away between the two beds after pushing them as far to the sides as possible. There is very little storage for 5 suitcases. The kitchen was nice with a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. We were able to walk to the Food Pantry just two blocks down the street for cereal, bread, milk and drinks. 2 blocks from the beach, and block and a half from a farmer's market that is held on select days (lots of fresh fruit there). It is walking distance to a lot of restaurants. The pool is small, but nice and there is also a hot tub. We slept with the lanai door open at night, and there aren't many bugs in Waikiki.

    Aloha Cinderkat1014,

Mahalo for your selection of the Aqua Pacific Monarch for your trip to Waikiki in February 2014. We appreciate your comments and agree that 5 people in a one bedroom can be a little tight. For some families, this is a fantastic option to make the vacation more affordable so that the money you save on multiple rooms can be spent enjoying some of the tours, restaurants, or even shopping offered in Waikiki. It's great that you located the Food Pantry as it is indeed very convenient to pick up your basic essentials to stock a kitchen. We genuinely appreciate your patronage and hope to welcome you back on a future visit to Waikiki.

    Warm Regards,

This hotel is much better value now that Aqua have taken it over. Yes it's an older place, but very comfortable and the views of the sea are wonderful. Ask for a front room above 16th floor. The lanais are large and create a lovely sitting out spot . Admittedly the weak points are the airconditioners as others have mentioned. They're not too efficient and in the past the check in staff were truly hopeless. Leave plenty of time to check out !!! Overall I love it.

Room Tip: Corner one bedroom suites with cooking are great. Above 16th floor is the only way to get sea views.

First the positives, a great location 2 mins stroll from waikiki beach and close to food pantry supermarket, small but nice rooftop pool, comfy bed and well equipped kitchen.
The not so good? Air con in room is inadequate for the room size and noisy, and doesn't put air into the bedroom. Don't stay here in summer! I felt staff were inattentive and a couple almost rude when I raised issues such as the internet in my room not working (someone ripped it from the wall) and bath plug broken. No full receipt on checkout and no bill explanation. The price is high for an ocean view room which on a lower floor as allocated to me felt like a rip off really, the view was more of the car park and a couple of seedier looking motels plus the Hyatt looming large in front of the beach.

Room Tip: Higher floor or look elsewhere if u want ocean view.

The hotel, although not the newest, was very clean and neat. It was in a great location for us -- we walked each night to the Waikiki beach and shops, Duke's Lane, etc. The kitchen was a great perk -- we were able to use the oven to bake pre-cooked meals from the grocery store and were able to only have to eat one meal each day out. There were three of us on the trip. A married couple and single man (all family). I think it was ideal for a couple or a family since privacy would be an issue otherwise. There was a bedroom with a door and then a pull out couch in the living room. There was only one bathroom and it was off of the living room. The balcony was accessed through the living room and bedroom. The most obvious inconvenience if you're "sharing" the room was there was only a window air conditioning unit which was in the living room. If you closed the bedroom door, and it was a warm evening outside, the bedroom would get a bit stuffy/hot by morning. Overall, it worked great for us. The two I traveled with have been to Hawaii over sixteen times (yearly trips) and they have stayed here for the last 10+years. Depending on your traveling group and needs, this could be a great choice for you! Nice pool and hot tub on the roof, too, with BEAUTIFUL views of Diamond Head and the Waikiki Beach!
