“Great hotel for the price”
Reviewed 30 January 2013

I was hesitant at first to book this hotel after reading some of the reviews. It is amazing what little trivia things bother some people. The rooms might be a little small but we spent very little time in the room. We had an ocean view room which I highly recommend. We traveled in August. The rooms could use a fan, but you can open the sliders. We watched great sunsets and we had the beach right across the road from us. You can have the best of both worlds. Some complained that the beach across the street was not great because of the man made breaker wall which closed in the beach. Yes, you don't get the waves, but you have a very protected beach if you have young children, It was also easy to swim laps since there were not any waves. Beach was great. If you want the waves, just go 50 yards to the left of the pier and you can be surfing or body boarding just like the fancy hotels at the other end of the beach. The pier was also a good place to walk out on and watch surfers and jumpers off the pier. The continental breakfas was satisfying for my wife, daughter and me. Plenty of fruit, pastries, coffee and juices. I found the elevators to be fast and not as confusing as some have complained. The hotel is at a great location at the Diamond head end of Waikiki Beach. It is easy to get to the freeway and you don't have to go all the way through downtown like some of the other hotels. All of the bus lines turn right at this hotel so it is easy to catch a bus. The zoo is just a couple of blocks. When I booked, this hotel, it was half the cost of fancy ones that you don't spend much time in. The car rental shop is just 3 easy blocks away. Like most of Honolulu, it costs $20 a night to rent a car but the hotel has great valet parking. We only rented for two days because most of everything else had great bus service or was within walking distance. We will book here again on the next trip. The sixth floor or higher are best for views and less noise which you will have at all of the hotels.

Room Tip: Select the ocean view. You can watch the sunsets and see city lights and see Diamond Head. Get a r...

We stop over in Waikiki to/from the way to the US mainland every year, and tend to stay in a new hotel each time. This Aston is not the most flash hotel by any means, but was great for the kids. It's right across the beach (2 actual, one with waves and one without), and across the zoo and aquarium. Cold, but plentiful, breakfast included, as well as free movies and playstation games. Only a few blocks from the action in Waikiki, but far enough to avoid it as well. Rooms have new furnishing and staff were very friendly and efficient. We stayed at the Hilton resort back in Aug (6 months previous) and the kids were unanimous they liked this Aston better. So at half the price, and a better location - we won't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Consider paying the extra for ocean views, as the alternative views are dismal.

This hotel was a great bargain, had a wonderful staff and was located right on the beach. The free breakfast every morning was more than adequate, offering oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, miso soup, and fresh pastries. The coffee was delicious! The rooms were pretty small, albeit clean and cutely decorated, but who goes to Hawaii to spend time in the room? The only thing I would say to do is request a room on a higher floor because breakfast is served around the pool every morning where they also have live music and a hula dancer. It can get a little loud early in the morning. However, what better way to wake up than to beautiful sunshine and peaceful Hawaiin music. The hotel offers free videos for rent, which is great after a long day of hiking, swimming and sight seeing. The location is perfect if you have a rental car. It's an easy, quick trip in and out of Waikiki if you are going to do any exploring of the island, which I highly recommend. I would stay here again.

We stayed here Jan. 12-19, 2013, and had a great experience. As noted in other users' reviews, the hotel could use a bit of updating, but the rooms and facilities in general were very clean, and well maintained. All of the staff we encountered, especially the housekeeping staff, were very friendly, and always willing to help.

The location of the hotel can't be beat. At the quieter end of Waikiki, and literally steps from the beach. The zoo is the next block over, and there is a bus stop (for trolleys and tour buses) right at the side of the hotel.

I have seen a lot of complaints about the daily resort fee. We travel quite often, and this is commonplace almost everywhere now. I don't see $18 as being unreasonable, compared to the daily fees that are charged elsewhere.

We were traveling with our family, and had requested three rooms relatively close together, all with king beds, away from the elevators, facing away from Tiki's (after reading other reviews), with a partial ocean view. Absolutely all of our requests were fulfilled, and we had more than a partial ocean view...it was fantastic!

Tiki's was great for appetizers and drinks, and had great happy hour specials every day. Wolfgang Puck's Express had amazing food and really reasonable prices. Also a Subway, Starbucks and Cold Stone Creamery all located in the same block. Very convenient!

Bonus: you could hear the live music from Tiki's while swimming in the ocean across from the hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from Tiki's, on a higher floor, and away from the elevators.

I booked this hotel for a last minute trip to Hawaii... The room was very small, but enough for me to get some sleep and shower. The location is great, but definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel. If you aren't crazy about a luxurious hotel, this will work. If you are looking for a fabulous resort, this is not the hotel for you.

We we're not impressed with this hotel, considering the price. They 'upgraded' our room but it had 2 double beds instead of the king we requested. We went with 3 couples and called ahead to request our rooms together and we all ended up on completely different floors. The pictures on the website make it look like a beautiful place, but it is very dated. They charge a $18/day ammenity fee, which includes a breakfast on the beach. This sounds much better than it is, it requires you to wait in line for a half poor buffet food, and take it down to the beach yourself. Not impressed.

Aloha, and thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are sorry to learn that your experience did not meet you expectations. When reservations are taken, we do ask the type of bedding requested but we do not guarantee the type of bedding or the floor level of any requests. We do guarantee the category of room that is reserved. We try our best to accommodate all requests but in times of high occupancy, it is not always possible. In that situation, we do offer to move the guest the next day or as soon as the desired room becomes available. On behalf of the hotel, we are sincerely sorry for the inconveniences this caused to you and your friends. Furthermore, we hope you had a lovely time visiting Waikiki.

Sincerely,
Rebecca

Stayed at Aston Waikiki for a week with my partner. Our room had a fantastic beach view from the balcony side and from the entry we had a beautiful view of Diamond Head. The hotel is very well located near a quieter section of the beach but an easy walk to the main part of the strip. The room was a little small and it looks like the hotel has partially made these rooms over - bright linens and wall hangings to spruce up what looks to be an older room. With that said our room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. Be aware that check in is not until 3pm (not ideal when you're arriving from an overnight flight), however you can leave your bags with the valets. We either slept in or were booked on early tours so we didn't experience the free breakfast. If you're expecting a luxury stay then this won't be for you but if you're looking for a well located, safe and clean base to explore Honolulu this is a great choice.

Room Tip: Higher floors will be quieter. We were on the 23rd floor and experienced none of the noise the other...
