“Great Stay - A Little Crowded”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

Beautiful hotel but very busy. Great location! Within easy walking distance to the main strip.
Would recommend for families or large groups. I don't think I would stay here again mainly due to the fact that it was so busy, however overall as a hotel, the grounds and rooms were very nice!

We just returned from our trip to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and after reading so many negative reviews I felt compelled to provide some feedback. First, I did a lot of research before going and we have a family member who recommended it. Doing the research, I was well prepared for the size and setting of the hotel and I was not caught off guard about the additional fees for parking, Wi-Fi, etc.. I highly recommend spending time on their website and reading reviews before you go.
POSITIVES:
1. The hotel and village were beautiful. It was clean and it DID NOT feel outdated at all. The hotel areas, rooms, restaurants, bars, pools, beach area and all common areas were clean and the staff was constantly cleaning while we were there.
2. EVERY staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. This included people at the desk, the cleaning person, bartenders, waiters, people at the restaurants, etc.. Several times employees stopped us to ask if we needed help getting somewhere or finding something. They asked where we were from and offered advice on what to see while we were there.
3. We ate at the following Village/Hotel restaurants: Benihana, Tropics Bar & Grill, Fresco Italian, Pronto Pickle and Round Table Pizza. The food was excellent at every restaurant and the service was great. We enjoyed the shops...make sure you get cookies from the cookie shop.
4. Luau - Despite the negative online reviews, we attended the Luau at the hotel. We had planned on going somewhere else, but the week got away from us. As a matter of fact when we tried to buy tickets or the luau, it was sold out for our last two nights. The women at the desk recommended we go to the luau and see if there were any cancelations, which their usually are. We went and were greeted by the manager who, upon learning we did not have tickets, escorted us to the desk and instructed one of the employees to give us 4 tickets. We had an excellent time. Sure the skirts were plastic, but the kids didn't notice and the performers were excellent.
5. ACTIVITIES - the only activity we participated in through the hotel was the Atlantis Submarine Ride. We bought the top level package and greatly enjoyed it. We went 100 feet under the surface, past two shipwrecks and sunken aircraft. We saw sea turtles, sharks and several different fish. It was a great experience. For other activities, we hopped into our rental with a GPS and headed off on our own. We went to the North Shore, Dole Plantation, hiked to a Waterfall, hiked Diamond Head, Snorkeling, and Pearl Harbor. There's plenty to do, we didn't get to everything on our list. I recommend driving around the Island (literally) and get to the North Shore where the beaches are incredible.
NEGATIVE:
1. FITNESS FACILITY The fitness facility is clean and modern, but way too small for the amount of guests at the village. I went several times and just walked out. I was told they are going to be adding another tower, my recommendation is to expand the fitness facility.
2. PARKING/VALET Be prepared to wait anywhere from 10-15 minutes for your car. We drove every day, so we needed to adjust our departure times to allow for this. In addition, when returning to the resort, we waited in line several times to get to the valet or the garage.
OVERALL: We had an excellent experience here and I HIGHLY recommend it. Meals are expensive, but that's across the Island. Eat at the shrimp trucks and shacks, get out and experience the rest of the Island. Do your homework before you go. If you prefer resorts tucked away on hundreds of acres, this may not be for you. Waikiki is a city, which has its perks. Lots of things to do outside the hotel in walking distance including the FREE army museum next door.

Room Tip: We selected a garden room vs paying for ocean view or oceanfront. We were pleasantly surprised to f...

Perfect location for both lazy beach days, water activities and shopping
1. Only 15-20 minutes walk to Ala Moena park
2. 15-20 min to nice walking street with many stores ( many high ends butiques)
3. IT has a vert Nice Lagoon which is perfect for small kids ( 5-up) without any waves or currents
4. Water activities available
5. The lagoon is excellent for a morning jog around it
6. ABC store where you can buy most of needed grocery
7. Cute small boutiques in the village
8. A few restaurants at the village
You actually don't need to leave the village.... Everything thing you need is right there!
We stayed at rainbow tower ( ocean view) ....
Staff are friendly and accommodating and the hotel and the village is very nice and fun to walk around!
Next time we are back in Oahu we will stay here as well!!!!!!

Very busy place, but there is always room for one more. Everyday we found something new about the complex (more swimming spots, shops etc).

Mixed feelings about the staff… Some were extremely friendly and helpful, others were transparently motivated by the size of the tip. But the most interesting were the concierges. Most only had average english silks and struggled to help us… The worsted was a young lady at the base of the Tapa Tower who was disinterested in us, she was more interested in playing with her phone than confirming a booking for us.

PS For the large amount of money you will pay to stay there I can't believe they would try to pressure you from all sides into a timeshare sales meeting.

This place is huge! I had never stayed at Waikiki before let alone this hawaiian village. This place has at least 4 separate towers of rooms. We stayed at the Diamondhead Tower and had a distant view of the ocean, not the beach. Still great to see the blue ocean from our balcony. Very crowded busy this time of year. Check in took us over an hour with the lines. Property is very pretty with a few small 4 ft deep pools. Shops on property are very high end. We needed a map first couple of days just to be able to find everything. Beachfront is awesome!!! Lot's of sand to relax in front of the blue blue ocean (which seems a lot of the other Waikiki hotels lack beachfront especially at high tide). Rooms clean. Staff very nice. Everything expensive!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Reserve a room at Rainbow tower to get best ocean and beachfront view.

Let me start by saying this is a very nice property perfectly situated on the far edge of Waikiki Beach which pretty much means it has its own private beach.
We were there on a 10 night vacation we are a family of 3 with an 8 year old daughter
The first thing that hits you when you arrive, very tired, is how busy the hotel is. We took a cab from the airport and once we pulled into the drive to the reception it took 10 minutes to get to the drop off point. Check in wasn't as bad as I had read on other reviews around 10 minute wait. My receptionist was extremely helpful but Diamond members, of which I am one, be aware there are very little in terms of upgrades available.
The room was very nice and extremely comfortable and it was kept that way throughout our stay by the excellent housekeeping staff.
This hotel has several towers I counted 5 but was told 7 not sure which is correct but either way that is a lot of people to accommodate in terms of facilities.
Let me preface the pro's and con's by saying we had a wonderful time but this hotel is not for everyone.
Pro's
The Rooms
The beach
Some of the staff
The Italian restaurant "Fresco"
The bands at the Tapa Bar
Con's
Almost impossible to get a lounger at the very busy pools
Nowhere quiet for Honeymooners or anyone wanting a quiet vacation
The Restaurants too busy and long waits especially in Tropics for breakfast and lunch
The price of the breakfasts are too high, try the local places just outside the hotel they are half the price
All in all it is really about what you want from a vacation hotel if you are looking for a vibrant busy facility this is for you. On the other hand if you are looking for that quiet romantic time with attentive service (almost impossible to get poolside service or table service in any timely manner at any bar) then maybe you should look elsewhere
As for Oahu it is the most beautiful Island with lots to offer if you hire a car and tour the island you can easily drive around the island in a day but take time to visit it piece at a time it is worth it.
To the Hilton management thanks for a great vacation but you could make this so much better with better service at the pools and bars. I was told that there are plans for anther 2 towers if that is the case you will need substantially increase the facilities there are simply not enough

Room Tip: You will not be given too many options but I am told the rooms on the higher floors are larger
