“Good Resort - But Expensive”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We stayed here for one night as we wanted to experience being right in the middle of all the action that Wakiki has to offer. We were in the rainbow tower and I was impressed with the hotel however the hotel is a mega resort which can be confusing when you have a lot of luggage. The prices for food at the resort are also very expensive. The only issue I had was having cold water in the morning as there was a plumbing issue. Would recommend this hotel to first time vacationers going to Wakiki beach that want to be in the center of all the action.

We recently stayed at the HHV for 7 nights at the Ali'i Tower. We had a great time and would love to go back again!

Rooms:
We chose the Ali'i Tower because it was the nicest of all the towers and it was worth the extra money. The room is clean and comfortable - housekeeping is done promptly each day. Bottled water is included so we didn't need to spend any money buying water during our stay. Although it has its own pool, we really didn't take advantage of it because it was too deep for our kids (ages 5 and 8). The complimentary hors d’oeuvres on Friday and Saturday nights was a nice touch - we took advantage of this while waiting for the fireworks to start on Friday night. We had a spectacular view from the terrace! Another nice touch is that this tower has its own check-in so we didn't have to wait the long lines at the main lobby!

Pools:
There are a number of pools at HHV. We hang out mostly at the waterslides pool (Paradise?) because of the kids. Even though it wasn't really big, we didn't feel crowded. The only con would be the difficulty in finding a chair by the pool...most were reserved very early on in the day.

Restaurants:
There is a good variety of restaurants at HHV. Although we only tried a few (Benihana was our favourite), the food was quite good and the prices are acceptable. We had ice-cream almost daily at Lappert's...it was soooooo good!

The HHV is located only about 15 minutes (walking) away from the Ala Moana shoping center and Waikiki. So we took advantage of this and took the bus there a few evenings to try out different restaurants. Afterwards, it would be a nice and leisurely walk back to the hotel...quite enjoyable actually after the sun has set.

Tours:
We only took a 1-day tour to Pearl Harbour and booked it at the Tours desk without any hassles. They do try to get you to attend their time-share presentation but as long as you're firm about it, you'll have no problems.

Luau:
Before arriving at the HHV, we thought the luau would be by the beach but it was actually held on the rooftop of one of the buildings. The view was actually quite nice. The food was alright...good selection considering. The cost is $99 per adult and around $50 for the kids. You could pay an additional charge of around $25 per person to have premium seats. However, some of the premium seats are off to the side of the stage which had a worse view of the stage than the regular seats. The seating is dependent on when you make the reservation, the # of people in your party as well as the server.

Getting to/from HHV:
We reserved in advance with Charley's Taxi and they charge a flat rate of $29 to the hotel. This is a good deal because it usually costs ~$50 on a meter to get to the hotel, especially during traffic. Going to the airport doesn't require reservations because there are always a few Charley's Taxi cabs waiting at the hotel.

Overall:
We had a great time at the HHV and would definitely go back! We had a late flight coming home so we requested a late check-out which was not an issue. In addition, we took advantage of the hospitality room (book at the concierge a day in advance) so we could freshen up before heading to the airport. The hospitality room could be located in any tower (I guess it depends on the availability) and ours was in the Diamond Head Tower. The room was nice but definitely not comparable to the Ali'i Tower so we were especially glad we stayed there!

Room Tip: The rooms at the Ali'i Tower were great

Checked in sun 13th July very late, very tired 2am! Rainbow Tower. Such a shame no cold towel/drink on arrival as we needed both.
Needless to say no one about. Staff at reception polite, efficient. Be careful with your wording! Was given "ocean view" which faced lagoon & car park but decided to upgrade to "ocean front" which gives glorious "ocean front" views looking down beach towards Waikiki end which is only an easy 10 minute stroll along the beachfront path or 3-5 min taxi ride (depending on traffic/time of day) $10 easy to get back to hotel at end of a night. Rooms are spacious, clean, beds comfortable but really a double bed is way way too small for 2 people to sleep comfortably! NEED bigger beds room can fit bigger easily! A lovely balcony to which every evening we hear live music from the Tropic restaurant while we enjoy Drinkies on the balcony. Room 515 would of liked higher up but nothing available at the time. They offer free DVDs machine in lobby of your tower. Room cleaners very nice, happy. Eager to please, fantastic!! Ice machine on every floor YAY! Don't bother with rainbow lanai buffet breakfast way over priced! for the amount of food we ate & Bacon/sausages also not to our liking however I had a fresh made omelette and it was delicious! Coffee great!!! ABC stores provide more than enough variety to get ALL your supplies from! Dinner at 'Dukes' was fantastic, but book! Same goes for 'IL Lupio' Italian at rear of Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Lots of places along beach front to have drinkies & enjoy the view! Hilton Hawaiian village has so many great places to drink, eat & shop at. Tapa tower bar great for drinkies & live entertainment. IFresco Italian, Tropics, Pronto (excellent for grab n go!) The Round Table does sensational pizzas! Can order from room & just walk down in 20 min to collect - perfect! Waikiki is VERY VERY BUSY! Room telephone Operator always so helpful!!! Friday night fireworks on the beach! So pretty! Can buy beach chairs ABC stores or hire on beach daily rate. Chairs $15, huge umbrella $35 An overall great place to stay! A great place to Holiday!

We loved this hotel. So much to do and in a fantastic location. Ten minute walk to Ala Moana shopping centre and about 15 minutes to walk to the main strip of shops and beaches in Waikiki. Great pools. The kids pool was a huge hit with the slides and all the pools. Food was expensive but you can always purchase dinner in happy hour to make it more affordable. Very tidy and clean grounds. Staff was courteous and always willing to help. A big resort so if your looking for more individualised attention then this is not the place for you. Lots of families and kids so a great place to bring your family.

Room Tip: Pay the extra $25 to get into your room early especially if coming from overseas.

Stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for 9 days. Started out in the Diamond Head Tower. On the second night killed small beetle like bugs by bathroom and that morning found cockroaches. Around noon moved to Tapa tower. Found a few ants crawling, but by 6pm there was a trail. Moved to another room that evening.

Diamond head tower is old, run down but somewhat renovated furnishings/fixtures. carpet looked old and dirty around perimeter/corners. Very noisy in evening from poolside lounge entertainment nightly. Sliding door very hard to open.

Tapa tower is newer, better condition than diamond head. More floors, more elevators, nicer furniture and better bathrooms. Tiled shower. Tiled floor at entry. Carpet looks newer too. Fridge old and missing a part. Sink bubbling up with sandy water - plumbing issues?

Pros:
-A few shops on the property
-Feeding turtles, ducks, and koi
-About a 10/15 min walk to Kalakaua shopping and restaurants
-Fireworks on Fridays

Cons:
-Lagoon sand is hard as a rock. No need for sand toys here. Even sitting on the the towel is uncomfortable. Walking a little ways away from the lagoon to the beach area is much better.
-I went to Tropics Restaurant (yelp says they do take out). Hostess tells me yes they have takeout but I have to go next door to get it. Next door is Pronto Pickle which does NOT have the same menu items. The restaurant does NOT do takeout and they should just tell guests that.
-Food is very expensive. Pronto pickle hotdog is 9.50. I know it's Hawaii and I expect to pay more but for what I get in return the resort food wasn't worth it.
-Turtle feeding time says 8 but more around 8:30. No more penguins either. They had to be sent to a zoo.
-Resort activities class capacity small. Only around 15 max, one person per family, and it fills up fast. And this resort has 5 or 6 towers of guests. What are they thinking?
-No Disney channel available in room, but available on treadmill in fitness center?!?!?
-Wifi very slow
-Down comforters too warm for tropical climate like Hawaii
-No washing machines for such a large premises. (And no arcade/play area for kids)
-Tried calling guest services hotline - always getting busy signal
-On last day tried doing express checkout from phone but line constantly busy and couldn't get through

This is a pretty massive property and it's nice to have some shops close by (especially ABC store) but they don't seem equipped to deal with a large number of guests judging from wifi, phones/accessibility for hotel services, free classes/offerings, etc.

If you're ready for a fun, full of energy resort experience, the Hawaiian Village can't be beat. It's beautiful, clean, with friendly, helpful staff, and lots to do! Shopping is mostly expensive but they have a wide variety of shops & restaurants & even ABC stores. The bars played nice music in the evenings, and the pools and lagoon were a fun way to enjoy a swim, or a laid-back paddle board session. The location right on the beach was amazing. I loved every minute of our stay!

This was my first trip as a single parent, so I needed everything to be easy and that is exactly what it was. It has everything that we needed, the breakfasts were great and the hotel staff were very friendly, the best part for me was having a drink around the pool well the kids played and when we didn't feel like going out we could have food delivered from the restaurant downstairs,it is close to everything and there was no need to rent a car to get around. Was just what I needed and my kids ask all the time to go back!

Room Tip: we were over the restaurant and could smell the deep fryer, it was ok during the day but a little sm...
