“Nice stay, close to the Waikiki beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights prior my cruise from Honolulu. This hotel has a great location, because of walking distance to the Waikiki beach. In your room, you will have available full kitchen.
Good hotel for reasonable fee.

After reading review and staying in Oahu a few times we decided to make this local hotel our stay for the 10 days. We were upgraded when we got there to a 1 bedroom suite, nice surprise:) We ended up on the 16th floor with a view of the canal and partial ocean.
The parking in Waikiki is terribly expensive and it was so nice to have a hotel not charge. The spaces are tight but we had a mid car and it fit fine. We were there 4th of July week and found a spot every night.
The hotel is older and the rooms could be updated but they were very clean and the everything worked great.
The hotel staff were so helpful, everyday we left they let us take towels from the front desk and beach matts. Every person I came across working there said hello and was very friendly.
The location is perfect for walking to almost anything in Waikiki which we did every night.
The lei making class was free and so much fun.
One night we left the front door cracked I guess and a security guard rang our doorbell (yes they have doorbells) and let us know. I felt very safe at the Ilima:)
We have stayed at the bigger resorts in Oahu and they are so packed and elevators take forever. I would stay at the Ilima every time over the big hotels.

An older property, but clean and the rooms are VERY big (the deluxe rooms), with a full -size refrigerator, sink, microwave, dishes, glasses, stove top, etc. I appreciated the large rooms. Parking is free (no small thing in Waikiki, which in other hotels is $25-$40 per night!), but it is tight spaces, and first come-first serve. Out of our seven night stay, we couldn't find parking for only one night when we came back after 11 pm or so. Very close to all the sights and fun in Waikiki. A short walk to the beach, close to food, stores, the International Market and two Starbucks. All in all, a great stay, and I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get the deluxe room; has the full amenities (full size refrigerator, sink, stovetop, etc.) and the r...

The reviews are all correct. The hotel is old, but clean, with a friendly staff. We booked through Expedia which stated we would have free parking. It is free but it's first come first serve. We arrived at 11:30 p.m. one time and were very happy to find two spots. We booked a deluxe studio, which had a queen and king bed with a tiny full kitchen. We didn't cook but just used the microwave and had cereal in the mornings. We were rarely at the hotel and we weren't looking for a resort, thus this place was perfect for us. We were charged $14 for the use of a safe, which we thought was free. Internet was good and included. We could hear early morning noise from the street but it didn't really bother us. The air conditioner worked great and was a little noisy but nothing we worried about. The location is great! We plan on staying here in the future.

We chose this hotel to spend 2 night before going on board the Pride of America and did not want to spend too much money. This hotel fitted the bill perfectly. Despite its central location we had a lovely balcony overlooking the canal and views inland. We had a king size studio which was very well equipped but you would need to bring you own tea and coffee. There was plenty of space and comfortable beds. The hotel also has a self service launderette and swimming pool. Friendly reception staff. Nothing posh, but would definitely recommend this hotel if you are not too fussed about being straight on the beach.

Room Tip: Higher rooms facing the canal

How refreshing to see Courtni, Drina, Emi, Robyn and many other staff who I remember from my previous stays. The personnel are all friendly and out to please you. The rooms are clean and spacious with a very useful kitchenette. There is free internet in the rooms and free parking (first-come, first-served basis). Also, you rarely hear noise from neighboring rooms (rare in most hotels). This hotel is one, of perhaps a handful, that still has rooms set aside for us smokers. Most hotels went totally "smoke-free" some time ago, even though they can set aside 20% of their rooms (with certain stipulations) in HI state law. Even if I wasn't a smoker, I can't see how going 100% "smoke-free" could ever be a smart business manuver for a hotel.
My visit was from June 19th through June 10th and was my third stay at The Ilima. This hotel is the "perfect fit" for me. Guess what? I've already made my reservation for next summer!

Stayed there for 4 nights in June (they were very nice and let us check in early when we arrived on Sunday). Clean large room with a balcony, close to the beach and all of Waikiki, decent price, parking included in room price, nothing really negative to say. Could use some updating throughout the hotel but other than that it was fine. We would stay there again.
