For what this hotel offered, the value for money was excellent. Our room had great king size beds, complete with a kitchenette and a view of the mountains. Also, it is centrally located in Waikiki.I would recommend staying here if you are after a great base for exploring Hawaii, without the sky high price.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view, it's beautiful.

We decided to stay away from the Waikiki beachfront and were rewarded with wonderful views of the mountains, rainbows and fresh trade breezes. It was my fifth trip to Hawaii but my first in over 20 years, and my family's first. The Ilima staff were the best hotel staff we encountered anywhere, including mainland USA: friendly, warm and gracious. These were the values of old Hawaii which shone through. You felt you were at home and nothing was a hassle. We had a kitchen and plenty of space to spread out. We didn't have to spend big eating out as we had a supermarket only a short distance away. My son and I even got the chance to ride some decent sized waves on a surprise December south swell at Canoes, Populars and Queens, just five minutes walk away. I have already recommended the hotel to others. At the end of the day, it was a place where you could switch off, feel safe, comfortable and cared for...all at an affordable family price.

Stayed for three nights (two stays) in early August. Receptionists were friendly and helpful, and I was allowed to leave my bag with them as I travelled light to Maui for a couple of nights in between. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the beach and the area is safe despite the proximity to a bar a few steps away. Wi-Fi worked well. The Standard rooms are a bit dated but very spacious. Even though I didn't use the kitchenette, I felt it'd be perfect for a family for a longer holiday. Prices were reasonable for a Hawaiian summer.

We stayed in a Deluxe studio for 3 nights August 26-29. We were on the 14th floor and faced the mountains and canal. The room was very nice (Yes, a bit dated but fine). But for the price we paid ($120/night) it was worth it. The full kitchen and dishes, etc. were very nice. There is a washer/dryer on the 3rd floor. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Always could answer our questions. It was great to get beach towels from the desk. The free parking was nice and we always found a spot but we did not come back in late at night. It was a 3 block walk to the beach. If we ever go back to Waikiki we will stay here again. The only drawback was that the pool was closed the entire time we were there for maintenance. Since it was a really small pool...not sure why it took a week to "Maintain".

Stayed here in a delux studio for a week. Room was spacious for a family of 4. Beds are comfortable, kitchen is stocked with daily necessities, bathroom is clean. The only drawback is the kitchen cabinets are dated and should be replaced with more modern materials. Location is convenient; just down the street from International Market Place and shops along the major streets. We were planning to do some cooking at our unit to save some food bills, it turned out that around Waikiki, there are tons of places to eat, especially with our low budgets, so we did not cook at all during our stay. The other minor drawback is the window AC unit is a bit noisy, but we slept through the night without problems. Generally, a very pleasant hotel with very helpful, friendly staff.

Room Tip: Book on hotel website to get the best rate. Hotel has laundry facilities so you don't need to br...

Probably, it is not only in this hotel, but in general in Honolulu that the well-known Aloha spirit is missing. We did not feel welcome when we checked in ilima. We could have got a smile, since we paid money, couldn't we?
The furniture was of 80-s style, but that was fine, as it made us feel as if we appeared in old good time when movies about Hawaii were made.
The room was clean. The air conditioner was rather old and noisy. When we turned it off and opened windows, the noise of cars serenes was not any better.
Location was good and it took us about 10 minutes to get to Waikiki beach and a couple of minutes - to city souvenirs market.

I needed two reasonably priced rooms and booked this based on Tripadvisors reviews and wasn't disappointed at all. Sure, it isn't 5 stars, but for the price and location you really can't beat it. Rooms are spacious and clean. We got views of the Ali Wai Canal, golf course and mountains which could not have been any better. Rooms are a tad worn, but being one block from the International Market place and 2 blocks from center of Waikiki and the beach make up for it. The street that the hotel is located on is quiet during the day, but the evenings along with Kuhio Ave tend to get a tad seedy since there is a local tavern and tons of tourist, but we never felt unsafe. Bathrooms looked renovated. Rooms included full refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, cook ware and utensils. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The only downside would be the small pool and it is an older property but well maintained. Starbucks and Denny's was one block from hotel plus convenience store on same block. Foodland Supermarket was 2 blocks from hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room facing Alai Canal and mountains.
