We had an amazing time at the Ilima! Super-friendly and helpful staff and quick to help you out if needed. The rooms were huge and the kitchenette (fully stocked with pots/pans/dishes) was handy when we didn't feel like eating out. Blocks away from everything: beach, shopping, restaurants. We were on the 11th floor and it was so quiet! And the beds? We slept so well! Better than at home! The balcony was a nice retreat after a long day of sightseeing. The only con I have is that the pool was closed the entire week that we were there, and there were no other pools at nearby hotels that we could use. But we would definately stay at the Ilima again.

Room Tip: Rooms located higher up are quieter, but the street is typically quiet by 6 P.M. and shouldn't b...

We had a 2x bedroom for 5x nights with four adults an one child. It was great location close to everything you would need. Pool was great. Free wifi an parking all fantastic. Staff very friendly!!! Beach close an lovely to swim at. Just a walk down dukes lane across the road an down an alley way an ur there . Closer than I had thought. Rooms clean an tidy. Air con a lil noisy but that's the only thing could fault but its nice to have cool air. One room didn't need air on on at night as it had the wind from the mountain side. Had a balcony that looked down the street. Which was nice an u could see the pool next door . An also the top of the royal Hawaiian hotel. (The pink one on the beach). Would recommend to give this place a try don't be a snob an dont judge a book by its cover!!! Had a great time here.

Perfect for us cos we are a bit dated anyway - asked for quiet room with a double - got a quiet room with two doubles . Staff friendly & helpful location perfect just a block from international market & 2 blocks from Royal Hawaiian. All required facilities in room with view - see pic.

This hotel is in a great location with a short distance to centre of town, International Market and beach. The room was quite spacious with a kitchen facilities- oven ,microwave, etc. ( of these we only used microwave once as we ate out most of the time.)There are plenty of restaurants close by. The balcony was nice but we only had a view of the roof of the nearby apartments. The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a concierge for booking tours etc which was handy.

I our room the air-conditioner didn't work properly and the room became stifling. However, it was partly our fault that we didn't report this and it may have been able to be fixed easily.

We stayed at the Ilima for two nights in October, 2013. Overall, it was average. The rooms were very large but terrible views (on the 4th floor). We actually overlooked a parking garage and what appeared to be the back of some stores or homes so it was difficult to keep the curtains open. You could hear noise from the outside but it wasn't too bad. The rooms are old and dated and does not 'feel' clean. There were some kitchen supplies but it wasn't extensive. On the plus side, the hote reception staff were very good....very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a budget hotel (we paid $120 per night) or staying for a day or two, then this is okay but I wouldn't stay here for long term. The location is good....only one block from the main street....close to a grocery store/Starbucks/Subway restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor...above the adjacent parking garage.

We stayed in the Ilima Hotel in early October based on the positive ratings we saw on Tripadvisor . It is true that it is in a good location as far as being close to the "sites" in downtown Honolulu . It also has free parking (but I would bet the space for parking is inadequate during the "high" season). The rooms are large and generally clean. However, the entire hotel is in much need of an update. I felt like I had entered the 1950's or '60's when I walked into the room they assigned us. The refrigerator and stove looked like they were manufactured about 40 years ago and had long since seen their better days. There was an old safe in the room next to the bed that was inoperative. The room smelled musty (we were on an upper floor) and a fresh coat of paint was needed about everywhere. Finally, the hotel sits between a couple of buildings that appear to be somewhat run down and occupied by a few "questionable" characters. In summary, I think the ratings for the Ilima are too high. This hotel is not among the top 25% in Honolulu in my opinion.

The hotel is just down the street from wakiki beach and all that has to offer with shopping restaurants, etc. It is easy walking distance... The rooms are adequate with nice beds and ours had a kitchen. What made our room great was the balcony. It opened up onto a creek which is right off the hotel and has a golf course right behind it. We slept with the big glass doors of the balcony open with a perfect breeze and woke to watch a beautiful sunset every morning off the deck coming over the mountains. And in the evening it was perfect to commentate to the people we wtahced playing golf while enjoying a drink or too before or after we had dinner... P.S. Buying breakfast/lunch foods and cooking in the room saved us a ton of money.. there is a gym with maybe 2 machines and a small pool if you choose... we did not use
