“Good Value & Great Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Stayed at the Aqua Bamboo for the past 4 nights and overall, I would say it was a nice hotel and worthy of it's ranking on TripAdvisor. If you're looking for something large, corporate and with all sorts of modern touches and flair, then the Bamboo is probably not for you. If you want a reasonably priced room that's close to everything Waikiki has to offer, then I would recommend the Aqua Bamboo.

Positives:

- My girlfriend & I walk everywhere on our trips and the Bamboo's location is excellent. Less than a 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 mins to the zoo, 15 mins to the aquarium, the main shopping and dining streets right outside the door, bus stops right outside...really everything you can ask for within short walking range.

- We got a clean, quiet room with a comfortable bed on the 10th floor, nice sized washroom with plenty of storage, closet with safe and free and fast wifi.

- Free use of beach towels with a convenient system of replacement and free use of beach chairs.

- Refreshing ice tea and lemon water in the lobby.

- This was our 3rd trip to Honolulu and we've definitely paid a higher price at other hotels for a similar experience. I would say that the best thing about the Aqua Bamboo is the value you are getting for a reasonably low price in Waikiki.

- Prompt email and phone responses when we made certain inquiries about our reservation.

- Received a bottle of bubbly and a box of chocolates since it was my birthday during the stay. Thanks Bamboo!

- Secured front entrance after 10:00 pm.

Negatives:

- Being on the 10th floor, street noise wasn't an issue however the air conditioner was quite loud. If you're a light sleeper, then the a/c in our room would keep you up at night.

- Cleaners were friendly when we met in the hallways, but might have been a little inconsistent in doing their job in our room. Nothing major, but worth noting.

- Front desk staff were friendly enough when we approached them with certain questions, otherwise they kept to themselves whenever we walked in & out of the lobby. This was consistent with morning, afternoon and evening staff. My girlfriend and I are accustomed to front desk staff being a little bit more openly welcoming. Again, it's not a major disappointment, but worth noting.

We would definitely stay at the Bamboo again. It has such an excellent location and as long as you're not expecting a 5-Star hotel, then I believe the many positives outweigh the few minor complaints.

We have used another Aqua hotel before and thought to try Aqua Bamboo. We got a room with a kitchenette which was good as we can cook our own breakfast. However, we were on level 3 so the view we got was the next door neighbour. We tried to get another room but was told there was none. Disappointed as we used Aqua 2x before. The hotel has free cold drinks at the lobby and free drinks Thursday early nights. The concierge Raymond is very helpful and friendly, not all of them at the registration is like him. Manuela at the tour desk is so helpful, compared to her other peers. Housekeeping was a disappointment as we had to call the front desk very 2nd day as the housekeeper forgot something - toilet paper, sugar, creamer, there was always something! We also noticed housekeeping didn't fix the sheets properly. Location of he hotel is great, walking distance to the bus stop and Food Pantry!

Room Tip: Get a room at the higher floor, get a room with a kitchenette

My friend and I recently stayed 6 nights at Aqua Bamboo Waikiki (BAW has 92 rooms; being small it feels "homey, non-commercial"). The room rate was great; at a modest increase we upgraded to larger room with a patio & mountain view. Hotel staff is tops: from entering the front door they were friendly, informative and cheerful! The hotel is steps to Waikiki beach plus there's has a nice pool in the back patio (Outer Sanctuary/OS). the OS also has the "Lovin-Oven" that makes delicious, fresh homemade pizzas & salads > we ate there 2 nites. On Thursday nights there's a complimentary cocktail get-together; cultural activities are also held for guests to enjoy. I would for sure stay there again per BAW's quality of staff, the amenities - comfortable rooms and its convenient location (buses are across the street = the best way to get around).

Room Tip: In high season ask for room facing pool vs. kuhio st (a main street).

we arrived early due to our flight. Upon arriving there told us to go and come back in 1 hour, we did and then told to return 2 hours later. Arriving after a 10 hours flight there was nothing. as we had never been to Hawaii we didn't even know where to walk.... as asked for some water and we were pointed outside. After waiting 5 hours to check ... there wasn't a Hi or welcome, first question was how would you like to pay your balance.
had 1 bedroom kitchenette. completely shocked at the size of the kitchenette. We booked it as we wanted to use it and it costs more than a standard room because of the kitchenette. It was a sink with a microwave above it... one person only could stand in there... so it was completely pointless to pay extra for a sink and a microwave.
when asked is there was anything a little bigger or spacious they told me that it would cost extra. we stayed there for 10 nights and obviously that meant nothing to them in the reason we wanted a bigger room.
There are mini ants or bugs everywhere. all in our cutlery and over the table, desks. those the rooms were cleaned well daily these insects returned every day....
there were 2 balconies. 1 was complete unaccessable as the bed is bolted to the floor in its doorway. So for staying again 10 days we could only open it by going onto the bed and climbing over it. the other balcony had a door but nothing to go out to. it was 20cm wide this balcony.

So this hotel is central and clean but choose wisely the kind of room you book.
Morning staff - don't lift their head to even acknowledge you, as many Australians would walk past and greet, then they would lift their head and smile. Evening staff were very helpful, so we waited until they were there for assistance

I had a spur of the moment trip required for business and had to find a place quick. Discovered this place randomly, and I have not complaints. The room was very well put together, full amenities including stove, refrigerator and microwave. Air conditioners worked well which is a requirement, it is Hawaii and the heat and humidity outside was ridiculous, so walking into a nice cool/dry room was a welcoming experience. Beds were comfortable, and the room upkeep crew was on par. My room had a balcony, small but nice to sit outside and have a smoke and observe the traffic of the city. Miss Aja at the front counter made the trip exceptionally well, after being on a flight for over 14 hours due to delays, she made sure I had everything I needed and was comfortable. My only issues, and they aren't big ones, were the inconsistent hot water, and the rather slow internet. Hot water is negligible, it's Hawaii and you don't need to take a ridiculously hot shower, and the internet was good enough to check mail and make a few posts to social media so as I said, these are not deal breakers! If you are on a budget, this place is right there around the corner from Waikiki beach, and all sorts of food and shopping. I recommend this place.

We had stayed in the area on this trip but wound up coming back to Waikiki after not finding what we wanted in Makaha.
We called Bamboo and luckily they had a vacancy they next day.
We felt the room rate was reasonable especially with all of the amenities.
The hotel is centrally located and only a block off of Waikiki park. Restaurants all around. Plenty of prime shopping close by.
We had requested a king bed but ended up with a queen and water/city/pool/garden view. Really nice. Kitchenette in room was nice. Bath was nice with tub/shower.
Parking in basement was secure.
Not a large place so not much waiting at elevators.
The amenities included beach equipment such as chairs, boogie boards and towels.
Sitting around the pool was great, especially with all of the trees and flora they have planted. It felt as if you were out of downtown. Not a large pool but we never saw it crowded. Cabanas poolside.
Restaurant on premises does some cooking.
Window A/C did good.
Clean rooms.
Nice smoking area.
Relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly staff.

Room Tip: All around nice.

Spent 1 week at this place and we absolutely loved it. No long lines to join for checking in and out. Perfect location for shopping, restaurants, Waikiki beach and car rentals, even if you want to take the bus, the bus stop is just right across the street. Staff were really friendly and were always helpful, especially Raymond. Our room was nice and cosy with clean fresh linens. Loved the signature scent in the lobby...they had fresh apples & lemonade. Free unlimited Wifi in the rooms, compared to other big hotels you will see guests clogged up in the lobby for internet..whereas in Bamboo you will enjoy chatting home at the privacy & comfort of your own bed. Yes I do recommend Bamboo and Yes I would absolutely return here on our next trip... A Home away from home. Mahalo!!
