“Beautiful hotel w/everything we needed”
Reviewed 3 July 2012

We were very particular in deciding upon a waikiki hotel for our family vacation. In reading other reviews of other hotels, I was apprehensive about being nickel-and-dimed during our stay, as it appeared from many reviews that was standard practice for hotels in the honolulu/waikiki area. However, at the end of our stay, we had absolutely no incidental charges on our bill. (NOTE that we did not use the hotel valet parking; we chose to self-park at a nearby garage with lower rates). Included in our stay were the following: beautiful room w/ small lanai with a partial ocean view (view was obscured by nearby buildings but was still a good view); free breakfast; free in-room safe; free in-room wifi; free in-room coffee; free newspaper; and free use of beach towels to take to the beach and return when done. Fresh beach towels every day = wonderful! My kids were given free Hyatt Place sand toys/buckets to use as well. :) Friday night there was live music in the lobby. There were NO resort fees.

The room was gorgeous, clean, and had everything we needed. We had a spacious room with two queen beds. There was plenty of room. I liked how the bathroom vanity area was separate from the rest of the bathroom. There was also a nice sitting area in the room. We did not experience any issues or problems with noise, either from adjacent rooms or from the outside/street area.

The open-air lobby areas were very pretty. This hotel is not directly on the beach but is about a 2-minute walk. The heart of the area, which appeared to be in front of the Royal Hawaiian/Outrigger/Moana Surfrider, was within walking distance as well. If you are hesitant to book this hotel due to location (as I was - I thought ity would be too far from the beach) - don't worry about it - it is a non-issue - everything is very close.

The breakfast was a real money saver. Advertised prices for similar buffets in the area were around $20/pp. Food/restaurants in the area are very expensive and it was great to save the money by not worrying about breakfast. This was not the typical made-in-advance and left on the counter type of hotel breakfast. It had many everyday items that we enjoyed - steel-cut oats with berry sauce, nuts/seeds, all the fixings; freshly made breakfast sandwiches that were being made right on the spot and were on a daily rotation so they changed a little every day (also, these were not just egg-bread-bacon sandwiches; they had gouda, muenster, guacamole, spinach, tomatoes etc.) My daughter has a dairy allergy and I simply ordered hers w/o cheese everyday - this 'special order' request was always handled with a smile and promptly served up, although they were very busy, and I really appreciated that. There were also pancakes, waffles, various yogurts, juices, bagels etc. and HUGE heaping bowls of fresh pineapple - (delicious!!) We were so happy with the breakfast here. Yes, the pool area is a wind tunnel in the morning, as other reviewers have stated, but the benefit here outweighs that small inconvenience of that. Plus it was nice to eat breakfast outside every day.

We only used the pool once during our vacation. Although it had been important to me to book a hotel with a pool, we were at the ocean for all of our swimming! The pool was open until 10pm and is lit at night, which my kids did enjoy the one time they swam.

All in all, a great experience for us. We were very happy with this hotel. Everyone at this hotel was extremely helpful and genuinely friendly. I would definitely recommend the Hyatt Place.

Room Tip: There are two towers. The towers on one building look like they have much bigger lanais. That might...

I would like to strongly disagree with the person below who disparages the staff at the Hyatt.
The management there should be commended for having some of the friendliest and most helpful employees we have ever encountered in our trips all over the globe!

Angelina who works at the front desk was especially helpful on numerous occasions and (if anyone at Hyatt reads this) she should be strongly considered for a management position. They could not promote anyone who is more professional, knowledgeable or helpful.

Mahalo nui loa for a fantastic stay!

My wife & I stayed at this hotel on 12th & 13th June 2012. We travelled from Sydney, Australia.

The hotel is very smartly appointed but is really like a "tarted up" motel.

The service was very ordinary:

1. No concierge or porter was available to assist us (The hotel doesn't employ any).
2. The check in desk was small and understaffed for peak periods. When we checked in, our room wasn't available at 2:00pm. We had to pay for an upgrade to be moved to another room.
3. The cleaning staff was non-existent. We had to request that our room be serviced, and when it was, it was only done on the second day.
4. No toiletries or other materials were supplied during our stay (only toilet paper).
5. The "free" breakfast was a complete disaster. If you want to see UGLY AMERICANS go to a free breakfast at this hotel. The food was terrible, the quality and the service was appalling. It was a 'buffet style' but more like a 'bun fight'. People were scrambling over each other to get to the food as it was put out. The choice of food was minimal, some of which I could not actually identify as food. The cutlery & crockery was all totally misplaced and in illogical positions.

The only good points about this hotel were:

1. the rooms were clean and the air-con worked;
2. it was only 1 1/2 blocks away from Waikiki beach.

I would not recommend this hotel as it is GROSSLY OVERPRICED for the service level it offers.

Dear ladurant2982,
Mahalo for sharing your review with us. We hope everyone in your family had a great time staying at the all new Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach and visiting Honolulu. In regards to your comments about the room charge, we only run a room and tax including incidental (authorization) at check-in. The actual charge happens during the check-out process. However if you are using a debit card upon check-in, the total amount will be deducted from your bank account. Our apologies if this caused any inconvenience during your stay. Our guest kitchen is very popular among guests, so at times it can be difficult to find a place to sit. Also, our apologies if you were not provided enough towels during your stay, and will be sure to address with our housekeeping department. Just to clarify, we do offer complimentary beach towels to our guests during their stay. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back again soon!

The room were very clean and we appreciated the value we found in our room that slept our family of 6 for our couple of days on the strip. Short walk to beach and restaurants/shopping. Liked that elevators required your room key to activate made us feel abit more secure. Breakfast included in our room fees was a plus although after a few days food was all the same and you had to sometimes fight for a seat on the patio that was clean as many guests left their plates on the tables. Only negatives were make sure you know if your room is prepaid or not, booked online for special pricing and secured room with credit card however it was not charged until we arrived and that was an unexpected expense on our first day. Also, room was reserved for 6 but housekeeping kept leaving just 4 towels, alittle frustrating when you are the last to shower. The pool is not heated so don't expect to use it as it was freezing cold and if you head to the beach, make sure you have brought your own towels as the hotels are not allowed out of the hotel.

The service was good. Check-in was quick we were upgraded to the penthouse. It had two comfortable double beds. There was a balcony with two chairs and table. It looked to the hillside. The room was clean. We needed shampoo and extra towels and they were brought to us promptly. The bathroom was small. There wasn't anywhere to lay down clothes. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of items to choose from. Since it was at the end of the strip it was quieter and less hectic. Around the corner from the hotel was the Honolulu Zoo and a short drive to Diamond Head.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade

I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. Our room was very nice and clean, had two queen beds, very comfortable bed and pillows, near the beach. There are 4 computers in the lobby which are also free to use. Breakfast is a bonus but I would suggest to have fried eggs, ham or bacon since they have white rice for breakfast. Love this hotel!

Took the family to Waikiki this week and decided to stay at the Hyatt Place partly because of the reviews from fellow trip advisor biyaheros. Checked in last night and making it our home for a week. We have a two queen bed with a pullout, room fits 5 people nicely, room is clean, good size with a mountain view. The beds are comfortable but not a big fan of the bathroom design though, where the sink is outside the washroom. Room also has soundproofing issues as you can hear the road noise so for people with sleeping problems, you might want to reconsider. Free wi-fi and breakfast but selection is limited. If you're staying at the hotel for more than a few days, you will definitely get tired of it, we had it this morning and already talking about going somewhere else for tomorrow. Staff here are friendly, the gentleman who checked us in is very welcoming and so is the housekeeping lady assigned to clean our room. Location is excellent though, not on the main strip but definitely not far from the beach, shopping, ABC convenience stores and restaurants. Took the cab from the airport to the hotel and it cost us about $34. Overall, if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, with some freebies and in a good location place to stay in Waikiki the Hyatt Place will fit the bill. I could recommend this place.
