Front desk staffs are patient, but very inefficient. Valet parking folks are professional. On the other hand, elevator wait is 10-15 min long. Breakfast is free and interesting. Overall experience is just fine.

Room Tip: book online instead of talking to clueless hotel reservation people

wwtraveler2010- We have never heard a guest report that our gallery hosts are inefficient, and can assure you this is not our standard. Allow us to apologize if the elevator wait times caused any inconvenience.

one very good thing is free breakfast. rooms are ok not bad not great and it is really close to beach and shopping area.
one thing would have prefered is that if they had resturant on location they have bar in the lobby but do not allow to take drinks to your room.

Hyatt place is about three blocks off the beach at the eastern end of Waikiki beach, and I loved that! City bus is right there that can take you all over....and the valet were super helpful with this first time visitor to Hawaii! Breakfast being included was great.....hot food every morning, with a variety of cereals; everyday fresh pineapple, oatmeal, bagels, yogurt and juices. Great place to stay!

Now this is a BIG PLACE. Two towers about 20 stories high. They offer breakfast every morning like many of the Hyatt places do but they manage it well. I am an early riser (there at 6:30 am when they start) and my friend who I traveled with runs to breakfast at the last minute every day. The same offering and quality were available for us both. The food choice was pretty good, no made to order omelets but they did have scrambled eggs or some other egg omelet thing with bacon or sausage every other day with their daily offerings of fresh fruit, juices, coffee, Danish, oatmeal, cereal, pickled cucumber, white rice and kimchi.

The rooms were all refurbished although be forewarned that the lowest class of rooms with the city view are really small with a fabulous shower but small. The other classes of rooms are large with the tub shower combo. We stayed in the city view for half our stay then moved to the larger rooms for the remainder. The elevators in the main tower are slow and there is only two of them. The second tower has three elevators and I like that tower better. Both have access to the third floor food area.

BIG PLUSES: washing machine on the premises, lei making class on the premises. Right across the street from Marriot where everyone picks up for tours if they don’t come directly to your hotel which many do, close to the beach( Location, location, location), block and a half away, great concierge people, and housing keeping is polite and thorough.

Small minuses: the front desks people could be nicer although they were efficient. They made you feel like you were bothering them. The food area was small for so many people but it worked as you could take your food back to your room with the trays they provided for you in your room.

Room Tip: lowest class of rooms with the city view are really small with a fabulous shower but small. The othe...

Aloha MsFroggy32,
Mahalo for taking the time to share your honest and detailed feedback with us. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed our extensive variety of a.m. Kitchen Skillet items available daily. There is a vast selection of guest rooms available at the hotel varying in size and layout. It is great to read your praises of our on-site laundry facility, lei-making class, and central location. We regret if you did not experience the exceptional aloha spirit felt throughout the hotel, and can assure you this is an atypical scenario. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back on your next return to Waikiki!

we stay at hyatt place in waikiki last month for a week. it's close to everything : beach, restaurants, shopping area, bus stops, etc. our room is nice, big and has partly mountain view, not bad consider the price (most rooms are $200). free breakfast is a big plus, when you in hawaii you don't want to spend too much $/time in the morning meal, just feed yourself and head to the ocean! The only downside is the bathroom is too small, only fit for one person , and the toilet is in the bathroom, you can image the awkward.

Room Tip: choose a mountain view room, it's quieter.

Aloha Lin H,
Mahalo for choosing to stay with us for a week! We are flattered to hear how much you appreciated our central location, spacious guest room, and complimentary a.m. Kitchen Skillet. The shower and toilet are separated by a door, which allows for more privacy while another guest uses the sink and mirror on the other side. We regret if the layout caused any inconvenience, and hope you will return to us again soon.

We staid for a stopover, and had spent a couple of days at the Hilton before. The Hyatt offers good value, rooms are rather large, staff is super friendly. It's not really at the beach, and one needs to be lucky to see the ocean, but it's a good place to start from and there is plenty of beach on o'hau anyway. It's probably not the right place if you look for a resort style hotel, but if you are about to go around, that's a good choice.

LOCATION:

This hotel is towards the end of Waikiki, nearer the zoo and park districts. It is still in the main downtown area, about 5 minutes walk from the beach, and 10+ minutes walk from the shopping areas. The area is level, so an easy walk. There are bus stops along the street, on the other side, so it is quite convenient, although not in the centre. If coming by car, there is a small driveway to briefly stop, and on-site parking is available for around $20/night.

FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE:

The staff at the hotel were moderately helpful, assisting when asked with specific questions, but not helping beyond what was requested. For example, on check-in there were no rooms available at the time. Although we waited in front, nobody checked or advised expected waiting times, and we had to keep checking. Similarly, we had a more serious issue later on, but there was no concern or interest shown; it was a case of not being involved or assisting. As staff are dealing with tourists in a foreign city unfamiliar with local contacts and procedures, a better standard of service would be expected.

ROOMS:

There is a small variety of rooms. Our room was spacious, with two double beds. The rooom also had desk and chair, and sofa, a wardrobe, luggage stand, iron and board, and mini-fridge, with an LCD tv. Unfortunately, there is a very limited range of channels, with just the US networks, plus a Japanese channel. For such an international destination, it is a pity there no channels from elsewhere such as Europe or Australia, so news was narrowly focussed. All furnishings were in excellent condition.

The bathroom had a shower over bath and toilet, and hair dryer, mirror and basin outside. All were in good condition and presentation. The shower head was an adequate height. Toiletries were private brand, supplied in individual packaging.

The lifts are regularly mentioned in reviews. There are only two lifts to serve so many floors in the tower, so a wait is common, except at off-peak times. They're not the fastest lifts either.

AMENITIES:

A large lounge area is at the foyer, open to the street, which was a convenient waiting area if waiting before or after check-in. Wifi/internet access is included, with 4 public terminals and a printer near check-in. A pool and simple gym, and laundry machines are located upstairs. There is also a shop attached which sells convenience supplies, and some other shops and a cafe on the ground entry floor of the hotel.

DINING: A breakfast buffet is included. There is an area seating about 50 people outside near the pool, with pigeons watching and waiting for unattended food and plates. The range of food is not great, but gives you a few choices. Each day, there is a hot option e.g. eggs, with cereal, preserved fruit, yoghurt, and a sweet bakery item. Bread, jam, Tea, coffee and juice are also available.

OVERALL:

A nice place to stay, which is also convenient. The hotel is well presented and maintained. Overall, I would rate it as pleasant, with everything you need. For a 4-star property though, I was disappointed in the service provided, that they didn't show interest and try to help when the opportunity presented.

Aloha OdysseusTwo,
Mahalo for thoroughly recapping your recent stay. Your experience certainly does not make for good reading, and we can assure you it is not the norm of this hotel. Most of our previous reviews describe just how exceptional our accommodations and service efforts are at the at the Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach. Second chances in the service industry are hard to come by, but we always believe in them, and hope to regain your confidence.
