“Loved the area”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

Loved this property and area to stay in. The hotel is on the beach and close to the centre of town. You are spoilt for choice of restaurants to dine in and the food is always fresh, one thing though don't expect the meals to be cheap, for a family of three about $80 to $100 for a main meal is average (including tip). The resort is clean and facilities great, the pool is excellent. Service is great but service anywhere in America is generally of the same quality. Rooms are older looking but still comfortable and clean.of all the different hotels/resorts I have stayed in, in honolulu thus is the resort I will be coming back to and would recommend to any one with children.

I stayed at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach for 8 days in a room which had partial ocean views and a view of the pool. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. In particular the beds are extra comfortable and soft; as are the pillows!

The rooms are also very well soundproofed with black out curtains that come in very handy when trying to get over jet lag!!!

All staff I found to be ultra friendly and accommodating - from the bell staff, activities folk, reception, bar and restaurant personnel.

The food offered at the restaurants is good and fresh. The breakfasts offered at the Oceanview Restaurant were very good!!!!! Looking out over the ocean, beach and towards Diamond Head every day was a nice and relaxing way to start the day whilst eating breakfast.....

The only downside and niggle with the hotel was having to pay for a deck chair and umbrella on the beach. For the nightly rate we paid it was disappointing this wasn't included.

Would I stay here again? Yes I would........

Room Tip: The partial ocean rooms actually have a pretty good view of the beach when sitting out on the balcon...

We stayed with a group for 4 nights in November 2013. Rooms nice, spacious, clean and comfortable. Our ocean view room looked over the pool and the evening music was enjoyable from the poolside restaurant. We ate at the buffet; at night which we enjoyed, not so much the breakfast, and shame about the grumpy bar staff in the evening. The food, service and ambiance at the pool side restaurant/bar was excellent. The most disappointing is the Wyndham Group sales people in the foyers almost harassing to attend their seminars. Shame it lets the hotel down. Pool temp was great, the spa's too hot! Location is good, not right in amongst the action but not too far away either.

Room Tip: Ocean view

We spent great 8 days at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. Our room was comfortable and has partially a view to the ocean, which not a big deal since we spent most of our time outside either with a tour or on the beach. Also there is Starbucks at the hotel which kinda cool. The hotel has a great location just a few walks to the restaurants, and the shopping are. Do not miss dinning at the hotel in the Ocean House restaurant, they serve delicious food. Overall I loved our stay at the Outrigger and of course I recommend this hotel.

We saved for a long time to see Hawaii and took a 7 day cruise for 4 islands. We planned to stay one day in Waikiki and take a tour of Pearl Harbor. Our travel agent, Teresa Weir of The Travelsmiths in Pt. Pleasant, NJ booked us into the Outrigger Reef. She said she knew we would like this hotel and the exquisite view of Diamond Head. She was right on the money as this hotel is perfect. The room had an ocean view which was what we had envisioned was what Hawaii looked like. It was clean, the beds were very comfortable and we loved the restaurants on site. The staff was very friendly and the pool was warm during the day and all lit up at night. They had live music softly playing it was like a paradise. We rented lounges/umbrellas late in the afternoon and drank up the beautiful view. Teresa picked the pefect hotel for us. You will not be disappointed with anything at this hotel. You will love it like we did.

We only had one night in this hotel as the rest of our holiday was in Maui. Unfortunately there are no connecting flights to Maui when we arrive from NZ so the only choice is to either overnight at the airport or in Waikiki. We chose the later on this trip and had a very enjoyable experience ( once again in this hotel ) The staff were extremely welcoming, the room was very clean and the bed very comfy . The next day we shopped and sat by the pool and on the beach and had a late afternoon snack before heading back to the airport around 7.00pm for our flight to Maui.

The hotel provided us with excellent secure storage for our bags whilst we shopped and then a beautiful room to shower and change in .

We used Hawaii 23 transport to and from the airport which is an excellent company to use.

Pros: The beds are very comfortable and the staff are very polite and helpful.
Cons: every time you go through the lobby either to the front of the hotel or the pool you get approached to take the timeshare tour. You are on the outskirts of Waikiki and need to walk to get to the action. The beach area is very small and the reef makes it very difficult to swim. There is no seating by the ocean except for in the two restaurants. The pool is situated in the center of the property between two high rise buildings so very little sun and a lousy view. Next time I would stay at Outrigger Waikiki with a much better beach and the pool is Oceanside.
