What a awesome stay we had here on our first visit to Hawaii. Our room was massive!!! Very clean and modern. My husband and I are quite chossey and I must say this hotel ticked most of our boxes. We arrived way before check in and were told that there is a room available right now it just has 2 double beds. Now we had booked king size bed but Expedia forgot to update the hotel about that. We were given the option to go and have a look at the room to see if we were ok with the 2 beds. Well to be honest the room looked a bit small with 2 beds,if they had only 1 bed it may have worked and also this was just above the pool side so we were a little concerned about the early morning noise, so we said no to this room and that we were happy to wait for a room with king size bed (if possible ) to become available. We left our bags at the hotel and went to explore Waikiki :) when we got back to the hotel we were told our room is ready and Alohalani who was checking us in when we first got there had managed to get us a room with king bed in the Ocean tower with beautiful ocean views. A special thank you goes out to her for organising such a nice room for us on such short notice. The staff here are really friendly and willing to help out in every possible way to make your stay enjoyable.
Our room was great, comfortable bed, free wifi and nice fluffy pillows.
This hotel is close to everything shops, buses, restaurants and free trolley and best of all Waikiki beach is just few steps away. Best thing is that unlike other hotels near Waikiki outrigger reef doesn't charge Resort Fee :). The hotel also has free activities for guests such as hula lessons, lei making etc at no extra costs.
The only negative are the Wyndham hotel time share people who are next to the Concierge desk and they keep on bugging you to come listen to the great deals and offers they have and later sign you up to come and listen to them talk for about 3 hours about buying holiday homes, they were so annoying.
Cannot say much about food as we did not dine there much. We just had breakfast once at the shore bird and the food was so so. I have been told that the other 2 restaurants are much better. Might give them a try on our next visit.
As a whole a great hotel with friendly and ever helpful staff.
Mahalo

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel but bought our adult children with us this time to share a special family occasion. The staff were wonderful (as usual), location is the best in Waikiki (walk straight onto the beach) and facilities are magnificent.

We had rooms 348 and 349 which had an adjoining door. The rooms overlooked the pool area.

We will be back.

Room Tip: As not to have a room next to an elevator

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day babymoon and stayed the entire time at this hotel. We are pretty picky about our hotels and was a little scared with some of the negative reviews this hotel had, but we had a really good experience here.

We have stayed in 5 other hotels in Honolulu (on previous trips) and this was our favourite hotel by far. The room is huge and very modern. Our hotel room was 1438 in the Pacific Tower and we had a very good ocean view from the balcony. It was also quiet although the noises from the hallways were very audible and our neighbour above us was quite noisy - it kept sounding like they were moving furniture around every day.

However, everything else about the hotel was amazing. The location was awesome - being beachfront is such a luxury because it's so close and the pool was awesome. There was always enough chairs in the sun or in the shade and the pool was never too busy, although there was always people around. It was close to shopping and food as well.

Some of the little things this hotel does provide that was greatly appreciated was:
- water at the pool: The water had lemon and mint and was my most favourite feature about the whole hotel. We brought our own Contigo water bottle and filled it up all the time.
- free wi-fi: slow but was great - we had it in the hotel room as well as at the pool
- free calls to US and Canada - we kept in touch with our family and also did some business calls
- no resort fee was a huge savings for us for 10 days!

We also didn't use the parking at the hotel as it was $35 a day. We ended up buying a monthly parking pass for a parking lot just across the Trump hotel, where it was $150 a month with a $10 admin fee for the card. We also saved a lot of money by parking here.

We would definitely stay here again given the opportunity.

Mahalo!!

We are currently in night 3 of a 5 night vacation at the Outrigger Reef. Although I booked early and paid the extra rate for an ocean view room, I have been left disappointed at the view from an otherwise great room.

The ocean view room on the 14th floor is 3/4 obscured by the roof of the Pacific Tower Building. When I explained our disappointment to concierge, I was advised that technically a view of the ocean exists, and this satisfies the criteria for the ocean view rate.

I was looking forward to relaxing on the balcony and taking in the ocean view but have been left disappointed. No one wants to be explained that the higher rate that they booked is based on a technicality, especially when the ocean front rooms from the front tower undoubtedly offer fantastic views. If I would have known this, I would have opted for a cheaper "partial ocean view" or standard rate.

On a positive note, the hotel is in a great location and the vast majority of staff are fantastic. The rooms are spacious and well maintained.

Room Tip: Make sure if you are paying the extra rate for a full ocean view that you book an ocean front room i...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am glad that you like the location of the Outrigger Reef on the Beach and feel the staff are fantastic. Please accept my sincere apology for the location or your room. The Ocean view rooms are located on both side of the Pacific Tower and in the Ocean Tower as well. All the rooms provide view of the water from inside of the room and Partial Ocean view located on the side with view strictly from the balcony. Your comment is being used in our daily briefing. Once again, please accept my sincere apology. I wish we had provided other room options for you during your stay. Mahalo once again for this review Aloha

We stayed seven days at the Outrigger and honestly, we could have never left the hotel grounds and would have been perfectly happy. The room was roomy, clean and everything was in good working order. I really base a lot on the condition of the beds and bathroom, as I get 'creeped out' by musty or bad smelling linens or bathrooms. Both were perfect and very fresh smelling! Being right on the beach was the BEST! My husband and I laid out on the lounge chairs reading (love the attached umbrellas) while our son rented one of the inner tubes and hit the surf. Our laundry grew faster than we could keep up with, so we made use of the laundry services also. Nothing like dry cleaning delivered to our room!
Must: Bring plenty of sunblock and necessities with you because the little drug store within the hotel charges an astronomical price for stuff (pretty much true for the whole area though), however, at least it's there if you need it. The Kani Ka Pila Grille is a MUST! Best food and great bartenders and love their breakfasts! The Shore Bird Restaurant & Beach Bar was pretty blah for all of the hoopla and advertising surrounding it ... It was crowded, so we figured it was a great place to get a great Hawaiian dinner. But we had to wait what seemed like forever to be seated and the selection was pretty non-exciting. We actually opted to go elsewhere for dinner because neither the kids or adults in our group could find anything on the menu that we really wanted. Loved the fact that there's a Starbucks attached also (I'm not human in the mornings without a mocha).
NOTE: Get a room that is not located in a part of the hotel over the entrance where the garbage trucks come in each morning. The racket is understandable an necessary, yet trying to sleep with all of the noise each morning would be less than enjoyable. The Outrigger is a little more expensive than some of the surrounding hotels, but the staff and service really make each dollar well spent. HIGHLY recommend!

Room Tip: Don't get a room over the front where the garbage trucks come in each morning unless you enjoy l...

I am currently staying in room 516 ocean front room. Beautiful view of oceanfront! The room is so updated and clean! It is plenty big for all of us to relax after a day at the beach. My mom and I love sitting on the lanai morning, afternoon and evening when ever we are there. We have eaten all three mornings at the ocean house restaurant waffle, omelet and two egg breakfast all delicious. Tomorrow we are trying the egg panini. We enjoy walks on the beach down to the hilton and back each morning and evening. If you want a great view of the ocean make sure you get an ocean front room.

Aloha! Thank you so much for your kind words about your stay at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your beautiful Ocean Front room. Our prime Ocean Front rooms place you directly above the beach where the shifting sand and sounds of the ocean can be heard and felt throughout your stay. It seems you and your mom took full advantage of this; enjoying the views from your lanai, going on daily walks on the beach and taking in the sunrise at Ocean House for breakfast! We sincerely hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel and to once again satisfy your expectations with our genuine spirit of Aloha...
