“A Must Stay in Waikiki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2012

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a quick one week vacation in the sun. We had read a few of the comments from others about the traffic of weddings coming through the lobby. The Moana Surfrider is the first of the luxury hotels ever built in Hawaii and has a history that draws people there. Be sure to take the historical tour. It is a romantic place for sure and we had a great time, the service was excellent. The food was outstanding as well.

Room Tip: The ocean view really is spectacular.

A grand hotel with a lot of interesting history, but room location is very important. We stayed in the Diamond wing on an upper floor with a fabulous ocean front view; however, the walls are thin and the bathroom is a deal-breaker for further stays in this part of the hotel. It is a bit difficult to explain, but suffice if to say that I needed to be a contortionist to brush my teeth without banging my head on an ill-placed shelf. Also, make sure there are no large evening celebrations scheduled on the terrace below or you might as well go join in for the sound in the room. Don't get me wrong, this is a most enjoyable hotel and would definitely stay again, just elsewhere on the property. With one exception, I found the staff to have an aloha spirit and a big plus was seeing a Brothers Cazimero hula dancer working the front desk.

Everything is pricey, but save your money its worth the trip. Everyone is nice and friendly you just need to relax and be in the" Aloha Spirit ". The Beach Bar is social and friendly just find seats early it packs quick. The outstanding bartenders are Craig,Harry and Peter although they were all nice and friendly. So, when you go there give them a big "ALOHA" for Terry and Amy from R.I. and have a great time. Thankyou Guys!!! a hui ho'u aloha

Room Tip: avoid Historic Waikiki view its noisey on street side. We changed rooms

This hotel is pricey but it can be worth it. I say can because you need to select your room before you go. We stayed in the banyan wing which is the older part right above the restaurant so we were woken up by the sounds of dishes and silverware.

I enjoyed the hotel overall and I found the staff friendly and helpful. Check-in was easy and it's nice to sit in the rocking chairs out front and people watch. Yes, it's expensive but compared to other hotels in the area the Surfrider is a little nicer.

This hotel treats their guests with disrespect, don't waste your hard earned vacation dollars and time here, it isn't worth it. The staff is full of sorry's, and not sincere sorry's, more like "sorry you feel the way you do," and are not really interested in doing the right thing even when they know that they've given you bad service.... A hotel is really only as good as its staff and this one is a big failure......It's really sad to see such a beautiful hotel be run with arrogance like this one is....

I stayed here last weekend in a room facing the ocean. I suppose the bathroom could have been better in that it has a very small tub, too small for couples, but that is about the only negative. I love the lobby area, great to just hang out, surf the web or whatever. Same for the front porch with it's oversized rocking chairs. Out back has a beach bar and the excellent restaurant and a huge banya tree. Our first night there a woman took off her clothes and had friends snap photos of her in this epic tree. I am sure that is frowned upon by the management. The buffet breakfast that comes with your room is above and beyond and differs in some respects each day. Any dining experience in this hotel, even when not staying here, I have always found to be the best. Although admittedly, very expensive. As was my room. We left our sliding doors open and listened to the ocean whenever we were in the room, even while sleeping. They do have assembly-line weddings, but I did not find this to be a detriment.

Room Tip: I recommend the beach front rooms like we had, but they are expensive.

For the price that we paid to stay at this hotel the experience could not have been worse.
Every staff member we had the displeasure of coming across was either disinterested or downright rude. Obviously for this many staff to have such a poor attitude towards their guests there is some serious issues at this hotel. This hotel reflects badly on not only the Westin but also on the Starwood group.
We had an ocean view room in the Diamond building. The room and furniture were very dated and the room was very small, but the bathroom was the worst it was tiny and badly in need of an update.
We visited a few other hotels for dinner etc while we were in Oahu and from what we saw would recommend the Halakalani as the most luxurious hotel, the Trump hotel was also really nice and had great service or the Sheraton probably had the best pool.
Do not stay here, if we had let it this horrible hotel would have ruined our honeymoon.

Room Tip: Stay in another hotel!
