...do they really need to charge an extra $35 fee for a beach chair and umbrella? The room rates are high enough that a chair on the beach should be included. Not to mention that you also pay a $25 resort fee each day of your stay. That said, the public areas of the hotel are beautiful, as is its beachfront location. Rooms are small, but well appointed. Pool is small and nothing special. Bring your no-limit credit card if you plan to eat and drink here.

Room Tip: Rooms in the newer towers are larger than those in the historic building. If you can afford it, go for an ocean-view room.

Really nice hotel. Great bar staff. Clean rooms. I was in my brothers room to watch a little of the game and the door was propped open, security saw this and made sure things were ok. Definitely would stay there again.

By fine, old hotel, I don't mean outdated or not well maintained. I stayed here for 2 nights as a layover on my way to the south Pacific. I think it is the second oldest hotel in Waikiki, but you wouldn't know it if not for some of the architecture. The public areas are beautiful and well maintained, and open out onto the pool area, bars, restaurants, etc. I had a fine corner room that was large, well maintained, my only complaint is no balcony, but lots of windows with ocean views. The location is very convenient, on the main drag in Waikiki. Small refrigerators in the rooms, and ABC stores everywhere for drinks, snacks, etc.

We came for our honeymoon and this was our first stop.
The hotel is beautiful from the outside, looks grand and rich. The lobby and porch was well maintained, staff were helpful.
The rooms were quite dated. Bathrooms were tiny. And the city view was obviously not that great.
The pool was tiny and cold. The breakfast was super yummy but very overpriced. (Tip: Eat in town off the resort)
The beach was gorgeous, but didnt' like that you can't be served alcohol on the beach. (can't fight the law I guess).
I'm glad this was our first stop cause our honeymoon only got better after this. (The Four Seasons in Maui and Kona does it right!!!)

This is a grand hotel in the tradition of days gone by. The property is magnificent, and a great place to just hang out. The lobby features a piano bar, and just sitting on the porch watching the tourists on Kalakaua Avenue can be a pleasant way to spend some time. The beach side restaurant is very elegant, and evenings in the surf-side bar (under a giant Banyan tree) can be magical. Each evening there are two sets of talented musicians, and the ambience of sitting on the Waikiki beach listening to the waves roll is truly memorable. I would rate this among the best, if not the best beach side bars in Waikiki.
The service in this bar is good and the staff are friendly. The huge chicken wings are really good, but the Japanese style seafood dishes are simply not up to the standards of Japanese food in Waikiki, which has so many great Japanese restaurants.

Room Tip: Kalakaua Avenue can be rather noisy at night. The ambulances in Honolulu must be the loudest in the world, and they pass by fairly frequent, even late at night. A seaside room is preferable, and worth the extra.
