I had so many fond memories of the Moana from days gone by that I wanted my daughter to share the magic of sitting under the banyan tree sipping a cocktail as the sun set.....we did just that and it was great - plus the bonus of live entertainment including a beautiful lady doing the hula. The place was packed but the service was great; cocktails perfect and atmosphere memorable. The old Hawaii still lives!

Aloha Patz,
Mahalo for sharing the beauty of the Moana with your daughter. We are thrilled that you both had the opportunity to enjoy, as you put it perfectly, the magic of sipping a refreshing cocktail under the shade of the iconic Banyan Tree. We are so glad to have helped you and your daughter create fond Moana Memories of your special holiday in paradise together. A mother-daughter trip to the Moana Lani Spa would be perfect for your next visit. Indulge in a healing lomi lomi treatment and spend the day within the spa’s oceanfront relaxation facilities, including dry sauna, detoxifying steam room, and whirlpool Jacuzzi. We look forward to your return to the “First Lady of Waikiki”.
Thank you!

Fantastic hotel with a true hawaiian feel. Position is excellent with being right in the middle of the main strip and perfect for being right on the beach. We had a partial ocean view room which is excactly what it is - partial. Staff are friendly and very helpful with anything you are after or wanting to do. Pool is great but thought it was bigger by their website. Quite small for the size of the hotel but being right on the beach you have that option to swim there as well. Disappointing that the pool closed at 6pm every night, should be 7 or 8pm at least for those that want a late afternoon swim in the pool and not the beach. Planning to go back to Waikiki at Christmas time and will be staying at the Surfrider again because of its location and so central.

Room Tip: If you go for a partial ocean view ask for one closest to the beach end meaning you will get more of...

short break to Hawaii to get away from winter. Shopping, Golf, Spa treatment, swimming and general relaxing under the Banyan tree with a Mai Tai or 2. The room with king bed was excellent , tour desk could not be more helpful.

Room Tip: Bayan wing old world charm.

We love this hotel the most for it's location. It is on the beach at the east (Diamondhead) end of Waikiki Beach. This means you have the glitz and glamour of Waikiki on one side and the relative quiet of Kapiolani Park on the other. Getting in and out of Waikiki is also easier. Such destinations as the Waikiki Aquarium, the zoo, Kapiolani Park, Diiamondhead, etc. are within walking distance. There are the numerous eating places in Waikiki and for more authentic eats try the nearby area of Kapahulu. Beyond the prementioned advantages is the hotel itself. The Moana somehow makes sense of the chaos that is Waikiki and provides a calm respite. The Moana (specially the old section) is really a special example of old school Honolulu and their gracious staff continue the hospitality of what most think of as Hawaii.

Room Tip: Either get a tower room with balcony and whitewater view or a room in the old section to sample old...

Aloha,
Mahalo for your review. It is so nice to hear that your recent stay at the Moana was “perfection.” The unique location of the “First Lady of Waikiki” right on Waikiki Beach is one of our most well-loved features – our guests love walking right out of the lobby onto the warm sands of beautiful Waikiki Beach, while also being in walking distance of excellent shops and restaurants along Kalakaua Avenue. Also, as you mentioned, Kapiolani Park and Kapahulu Avenue are nearby and are definite must-stops during a stay in Waikiki. Need another to-do for your next visit? Spend a day relaxing under one of the Moana’s private beach umbrellas! Enjoy the sand, surf, and have a refreshing cocktail in hand all day! We await your next arrival to the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa.
Thank you!

We stayed one night before our long flight back home and I can't be more sorry I ever booked this hotel. 4 star it is not. We got one small awful room after specially requesting a quiet one and was told there shouldn't be a problem. Could not sleep from the noise, we're up at 5 am. The food is terrible, bathroom not clean, shower door didn't close correctly flooding the bathroom, overcrowded 1 hr wait to go into a restaurant for dinner or breakfast, pool and beach loungers closed at 6pm for some weird reason, staff in attentive and manager acted completely indifferent with our situation stating we couldn't switch rooms because they we're all full. I told him I would write a review to warn people, he couldn't care less. Can't think of one good thing about this place. Two weeks prior we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian and everything was perfection. This place is all about that banyan-tree-covered courtyard. There are a couple of restaurants, a bar, a snack bar, a pool, and of course beach access from there. It's nice. (Probably not ideal with kids; the pool isn't huge). It's hard not to love this area. My room this time was in the Tower (last-minute planning), and was nice but fairly ordinary. The rooms in the "old" part of the hotel are best.

Room Tip: Ask about rooms in the old part of the hotel -- not the tower.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Moana. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your most recent visit, especially the days spent around the Banyan Courtyard enjoying the cool breeze and warm sun. It is also wonderful to hear that you were pleased with the Moana’s historical ambiance – we take great pride in maintaining the timeless beauty and grace of the “First Lady of Waikiki” and are delighted that our guests enjoy her charm and elegance. The swimming pool is very small so if your children dont like swimming in the sea this hotel isnt recommended as no flotation devices allowed in pool .The beds were comfy, food at the pool bar and grill was overpriced for the quality of the food. on arrival had to wait ten minutes to get checked in as minimal staff at reception. the concierge were very helpful when booking trips. rooms were a good size , bathroom could do with a revamp as a bit tired .

Room Tip: if you are wanting a double room this isnt the hotel for you as all the double rooms are low and so...
