“Absolutely Loved It!”
Reviewed 14 January 2012

Obviously an older property but reasonably well maintained (had to fix minor problem with sink plug). Very close to Waikiki beach and in the heart of the shops & restaurants. Even a decent supermarket within a few minutes walk. You can even walk to Ala Moana Shopping Centre in about 35 minutes (although we are fast walkers).

We had an ocean view room on level 8 and we were very happy with the view! The king size bed was very comfortable. It was a struggle getting out of it in the morning!

This hotel also puts on interesting activities like hula dancing and ukalela lessons at no extra cost. Don't miss the pineapple carving! Maybe they will add line dancing in the future (hint, hint).

Check in was a bit slow for tired travellers, but check out was quick and efficient. The staff are very friendly and helpful, particularly front desk and bell men.

No problem with the resort fee although not sure if we got full value as we didn't have a car, but the included long distance (and international) phone calls is a bonus and the high speed internet was great.

There is an ice machine on each floor which is great for drinks in your room. Amazed by the fridge also...looked like a typical motel bar fridge, very small. However it worked like a demon and could freeze bottles of water in a couple of hours.

Would we stay here again? Definitely we would if we came back to Waikiki.

Room Tip: Definitely worth paying a bit more for the ocean view room.

I booked one night at junior suite - I thought it was normal double room, what is going on?
Room is bad shape, need lots work to look nice. Painting on the wall peeling, floor with lots of stains, swimming pool that smells like pee.

Only good things about this hotel is they have good japanese breakfast corner where you can get natto!

If you book in advance, you can get good deal, but do not expect anything but a shed.

Pros: Location was excellent, just across the street from Waikiki Beach and right on the main shopping drag. Price was not unreasonable ($235/night) when you consider we stayed from Dec 26-30. The resort fee of $12.57 was very palatable as it included parking (too bad we didn't have a car), 100 minutes of long distance a day (too bad there wasn't anyone we wanted to talk to) and 2 bottles of water daily. Excellent view of the ocean, hotels, mountain from our lanai.
Cons: The wind noise that roared and moaned through our room was unbelievable, especially as the days weren't particularly windy ones. Luckily the wind died down at night. One of the phones in our room crackled so badly it was good there wasn't anyone we needed to call. The decor was definitely island nostalgia - turquoise or pink painted built-ins and rattan tropics. Bathroom was not someplace you wanted to spend time in but clean enough. The beds are tiny doubles - really too small for our family of four. There didn't appear to be Express Check-out of any sort so plan accordingly if you're rushed at check-out time - you're in the same line as the people checking in.

Room Tip: Avoid room 2841 if you don't want to feel like you're in the middle of a monsoon!

Definitely dated but seemed to be clean and reasonably priced for the location/amenities.
Amenities – nice workout area and a number of regular activities.
Location – across the street from beach and major store fronts.
Stayed here recently as part of a package. As a result, we were originally not informed of the hotel resort fee option which covers internet/parking etc. for less than daily parking (depending on # of nights you stay but it’s a good deal if you have a car since parking is typically 20+/day).
Elevator/layout was kind of frustrating from Ainahau Tower. There seemed to be way too many guests for the number of elevators/weird layout and stairs were not a viable option. At times the wait was 10+ minutes. We were on the 6th floor but the Ainahau Tower accessible stairs only seemed to the fourth floor (unless you take the fire stairs which were locked to get back in.

Room Tip: If I was to stay here again, I’d definitely try to get a room in the Princess Wing which seemed to h...

Aloha 2inDenver and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We appreciate your comments regarding our cleanliness, location and guest amenities. We apologize that you were not made aware of our resort charge inclusions such as self parking, and happy that when you were informed you found it to be a great value. Thank you for your comments regarding our elevators as this will help us to improve. The reason we keep the fire escape stairwell locked from the outside, is for our guests’ safety. Thank you again.

We spent 2 nights at SPK and it was the worst hotel i have been to (even subpar comparing to roadside Motel 6). It was like stepping back in to the 70 with the room deco! Except the room (and probably the whole wing of the hotel) also experienced 30 something years of useage and abuse. Everything was outdated and dirty. The room we had is facing the parking lot and pretty much on top of the dumpster so it was stinky and noisy.
The only reasons i gave it ONE star were because i used my SPG points for it (plus maybe for the location). It was partly our fault for not planning ahead and book a nicer hotel ( we spent the whole Xmas week in Kauai and decided to spend New Year in Waikiki at the last minute)
Do yourself a favorite and plan ahead so you dont end up at this hotel. Starwood should be ashamed of operating this hotel ( maybe they will decide to do some renovations if enough people complain)

we stayed here based on location and an airpoints deal that I got and were very pleasantly surprised with the standard and value. The location was excellent (next best thing to direct waterfront) and the view from our high ocean view room was great, although still noisy on the 27th floor which just seems to be a waikiki thing... Room itself was fine, view was outstanding. Pool was good and not busy at all. staff were fine, and it was nice to be identified on the beach by our sheraton towels and offered complementary fruit and water. We didn't eat at the hotel but it looked typical for the hotels in the area - maybe a couple of bucks cheaper than the moana surfrider across the road (which is a great place for a beer by the way)
Any negatives are probably typical of waikiki, we enjoyed the buzz of people and activities, but the noise is obviously typical of a busy built up area.

Room Tip: high ocean view, south side facing diamond head.

Thank you DuncanNZ for your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed our location and value; as many of our guests do. Our Big Kahuna Beach Service, which is included in our daily resort charge is very popular and we are so pleased you were able to experience this. We hope to welcome you back soon. Mahalo.

I have reservations for 1/24/12-2/2/12 and am very excited about the opportunity to stay at this hotel for a seventh time. I will be so sad when the major renovations, destruction of this property occurs. It keeps getting pushed back and hope it continues to get pushed back another 10 years. It has the feel of a real Hawaiian hotel, not a 5 star in Manhattan. Yes it's busy and old but the positives so out weighs the negatives. Can't wait until our visit.
