“A Pleasant Surprise!”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

After reading various reviews of Pacific Beach, I was not expecting anything too amazing. But I am pleased to say that we were very happy with our stay here. Our main concern was being somewhere close to the beach, shopping and a view of the water. We stayed in a partial ocean view room in the Oceanarium tower. Even though we were on the side of the building we had a FANTASTIC view of the ocean to sit out on the lanai and watch the sunset -just beautiful!
The hotel common areas and the rooms are very dated and in need of a refurbishment, however our room was large, comfortable and very clean.
Location is superb. Just cross the road and you are on the beach, and you are right on Waikiki strip with an array of restaurants and shopping.

Only downsides I could pin point are the small toliet/shower area, the bad fishy smell of the lobby (from the restaurant) and the need for a $20per day 'resort fee'.....as the pool is 'meh' and you have to pay to use the gym.

I would stay here again as it is good value for location and size of room and lanai. Anywhere else beachfront or ocean view around Waikiki you would be looking at MIN. $350 per night.

Surfboard/paddle board lessons and hire and much cheaper on the back streets. When you come out of the hotel on the side (not on the main beach road) there is a little side street when 'Waikiki Resort' entrance is. Walk up to the next corner and there is a dodgy looking food place called 'Blazin Steaks' which is actually really good, and a surf hire place next door. Rates are MUCH better then hiring at any of the vendors on the beach.

Room Tip: If you dont want to fork out an extra $100 a night for ocean front room, the partial ocean view room...

We came in for the Honolulu marathon and I wanted a hotel close to the beach and the start and finish of the marathon. Pacific Beach worked out perfectly. The beach was one half block from the hotel and a bus stopped in front of the hotel to pick up marathoners for the race. Also, there was a McDonald's restaurant across the street with 24 hours service so that I was able to get coffee and breakfast before the marathon start at 5am in the morning. In addition, the hotel was located conveniently in the middle of Waikiki shops and businesses. Also, we were able to catch buses within a block of the hotel to go to other sightseeing spots such as Diamond Head and Huanama Bay.
The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend the hotel.

The hotel is starting to show its age however the location and facilities make it a comfortable and highly recommended place to stay. The hotel is literally across the road from the beach and is within very close walking distance to great restaurants, bus stops and car rentals. We had a decent view to the beach and of diamond head. Would stay here again.

We recently spent 6 nights at this hotel, in an ocean front room on the 12th floor. I'm almost reluctant to write this review, as I worry that we'll have trouble booking here on subsequent stays!
The room is a decent, standard hotel room, very similar to the five other hotels I've stayed at in the Waikiki area. Not the cheapest, nor most expensive, but definitely the greatest view we've had from our lanai, which is always a priority for us. The room was clean, with a fridge and microwave, and decently sized. The bed was not the most or least comfortable I've slept in. We paid upwards of $300/night, after factoring hawaii/occupancy taxes and resort fee into mix. The resort fee is a complete joke, as the pool is meh and I can't pick out a single thing that is otherwise included, with the exception of beach towels (buy one for 9.99 at ABC).
Lobby was clean, again standard in comparison to other hotels. Staff was great and very accommodating on our last day when our flight didn't leave until 1130 pm!
I never found noise to be a problem at all. Bathroom was a bit small.
Overall, the location was great, the VIEW and oceanfront lanai were great, and we will definitely stay here again.

The hotel check in etc was great, parking tight but just fine. Hotel rooms were outdated for the price and location. Beds old and hard. Staff courteous and helpful. Will not stay again until rooms are updated. Restaurant prices are outrageous for quality.

Room Tip: Stayed in the towers, great view.

We booked our trip on the Thursday before Thanksgiving. Direct flight and a great price for the room. Loved the views from our room. We looked at all of Waikiki the first 4 nights in the beach tower then moved to the ocean tower on the opposite side and the building of had a great view your diamond head and the ocean.
