A very busy hotel a block back from Northern end of Waikiki. We arrived to room not ready. When we got in there filthy. Long black hair in bath, stains on everything, lounge looked like a dog lived on it. Curtains hanging off track, blocked sinks x 2 and stained and dirty, urine behind toilet, dirty dirty grout, nasty smell from drains. Our hallway from lift was not vacuumed in the 5 days we were there. I brought all of these issues to the attention of the front desk on two occasions and nothing was ever done, until I commented again on check out and they offered to comp the parking. Would of been nicer if they had cleaned. I didn't ask for any discount. I was just replying to the 'How was your stay question'. Staff seemed overworked and not happy, except for the valet parking guys. Horrible view of down rent flats next door and filthy balconies below and our own was very dirty and dusty.. Rooms have no overhead lighting and so are dark and the ceiling height is very low. Marks on walls and mirrors and even spills we made were never cleaned up off surfaces. One day housekeeping didn't make the beds up, just changed the towels. If you get a budget room rate it is ok for Waikiki where a lot of hotels are old, but if can't stand dirty, don't go. It is not two rooms, just a sliding panel between bedroom and lounge not a wall and there is only one TV which is in lounge with terrible channel offerings, though I didn't really try to find anything much. The sofa bed did have a foam tempur mattress which was comfy, however the fabric on arms of lounge was so dusty and stained it wasn't nice to lay your head on. The beds were small doubles. Easy walk 15 mins to Ala Moana Mall, bus stop is halfway there so you may as well walk. Return bus drops at 8 mins away at Hilton side entrance. Can get to the beach by going across the road and through the Hilton Resort 10 minutes. They let us have towels there, but didn't know of any reciprocal agreement, so maybe check that out. Laundromats nearby and enough restaurants and ABC stores convenient to buy sundries and meals. No smoking anywhere including balconies so all the guests hang on the front wall of the footpath to smoke which is not a good look.

My second choice for a very nice hotel is Hilton's Doubletree Alana.

You are welcomed by warm chocolate chip cookies at the reservation desk, and after that the service is very good. The hotel suites were re-furbished a few years ago and they are spacious, comfy, and gorgeous. It is located about a block from the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and guess what? You have access to all of the HH Village grounds, activities, sights and services.

The doubletree has a restaurant, enjoyable room service pool, and a small shopping area. ABC stores are right on the corner. It is surrounded by scrumptious restaurants, Hawaiian stores ect.

What a hidden gem. When the H H Village is fully booked I just book into the Doubletree Alana and whenever I want I walk to the Village and enjoy myself. Did I mention that you can ask for an
ocean view room? It is not as close to the beach as the HH Village and other hotels but it is so pleasant and enjoyable. The park is right across the street for walking, sitting and relaxing, and for jogging fun. What a gem.

This hotel is set back from the ocean behind the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Ala Moana Blvd. Its a great location, close to everything. A quick walk and your on the beach. Restaurants are all around you in every price category and the shopping is abundant. Access to the hotel is easy once you find its location which can be bit tricky, but once your there valet service (which is all that's offered) takes care of parking and your free to walk the area. This hotel does not have underground stores and shopping facilities. It is a quieter location with less people traffic which suited us perfectly! Our stay included free breakfast which was phenomenal, everything you could want. Service was great! We had a corner room with two lanai's overlooking Fort DeRussy Park on the 15th floor which gave us peek-a-boo views of the ocean. The bed was great, a/c quiet, very little street noise when windows are closed. Only a few things did not meet our needs. The room does not come with Microwave or Refrigerator. You can order a Refrig. for additional cost. The gym is weak, 2 treadmills, (both needed servicing) a couple elipiticals and weights, and the pool is not a resort, not really inviting to us but adequate. All in all for what we needed, it was perfect!
