“A Diamond Head Gem”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

We had stayed at this hotel when it was a "W" and decided to try it under new ownership. We booked a corner room and arrived late at night. We awoke the next morning to a spectacular view of Diamond Head.

Everything that has been written about the staff is spot on--helpful, congenial and professional.

We had breakfast the first morning in the 2nd floor restaurant seated by the window and taking in the pleasant sights, sounds and aromas from outdoors. The breakfast staff couldn't be more pleasant and helpful. Although food choices were limited, the selections were fresh and tasty. Free coffee, tea and hot chocolate are offered each morning. As the room had a nice mini fridge, we bought breakfast items for the remainder of our stay, but visited the restaurant each day for our coffee and daily newspaper.

The rooms are adequately sized and outfitted with plenty of storage for personal items, a desk, chair and ottoman. A table and chair are located on the balcony but the day it rained, we brought them indoors for our breakfast and they fit in perfectly without crowding the room.
A Starbucks coffee machine and coffee capsules were provided for that morning wake-up cup.
Under the tv is more storage and the mini fridge..

One long wall of the bathroom is vanity/mirror with a lot of space on either side of the sink for toiletries. Opposite the vanity is shelving with a large selection of bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, etc. I believe all rooms are equipped with showers, which is fine by me. Often bathrooms with tub and shower seem to be a waste of space and the tub usually goes unused.

The only complaint I heard from other guests is that there is only one elevator for the 12 story building causing wait times, but with only 5 units per floor, we didn't see that as a problem. The elevator does open onto a corridor which is open air and, seemingly, some guest seem to forget they are in a hotel and use their "outdoor" voices while waiting for the elevator.

The location is close to San Souci Beach, close to a bus stop and an easy walk to Waikiki.

The clientele is well rounded with young families, couples, seniors and it's evident that many
are frequent visitors.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have best views. The ocean view corners are furthest away from the elevator so will ten...

This place is great. Very near Waikiki but not in the middle of it. Avoids the crowds and is a nice quiet environment. The view of Diamond Head is super. They recommended the restaurant in the hotel and we decided it was a convenient place to get a couple drinks, dinner and not drive or take a cab after traveling all day. So glad we did. The restaurant did not disappoint in any way. Attentive service and a selection of amazing appetizers and entrees. The breakfast in the restaurant is a basic selection of choices, and does not appear to have the same point of view as the chef who created our amazing meal the night before. I will definitely return to this hotel and restaurant..

Room Tip: We booked a last minute room the day before on their website and got a nice discounts. Choose a roo...

We own a condo next to the Lotus and have for the past 10 years. Occasionally we need to have friends or family that come in from the mainland stay near us. We pick the Lotus for its location...not in the craziness of Waikiki....but a hundred yards from the best beach in the area, the beautiful Kapiolani park on the other side and the Lotus frankly is at the foot of Diamond Head. The entire staff is amazing...I say again...the entire staff! Modern but with an Aloha Spirit! If you stay anywhere else....you are probably not thinking correct. I never write reviews....I am just compelled to share the hidden beauty, comfort and peace you will find if you choose the Lotus Honolulu. Marc Van Buskirk CEO-GovX

We stayed at Lotus for several days based on the reviews on TA and our experience was slightly above average after taking many things into account. The hotel's greatest attribute is the customer service - possibly the best service we have received at any hotel in North America and likely do to the fact that it is a boutique hotel with less than 50 rooms therefore the attention to guest satisfaction is higher than a standard hotel. For this I give them full credit as everyone from the valet to housekeeping do a fine job (the staff here actually run to complete tasks which wasn't necessary but fun to watch). The free evening wine and water during our stay were nice touches as well. The hotel was recently renovated but that doesn't mean everything is new as many areas of the hotel and room were untouched. For example, our bathroom was very old and motel-esque and not particularly clean compared to other $400/nt hotels. Higher end hotels will often do a renovation which means everything is new in the room but I would classify the Lotus as having done a partial renovation. Now, I should clarify that we have been to Waikiki a dozen times and if this was our first stay in Waikiki we would have been very pleased overall especially if we knew beforehand that there is no pool, pool access or fitness facility and didn't expect these amenities, which we were aware of. However we have been to Waikiki and stayed at other hotels therefore we have the luxury of making comparisons which is why we suggest this hotel is average. The location is definitely away from the crowds of Waikiki on Kalakaua but a short 10 minute walk if you want to be in the Waikiki mix but there is a large park almost beside the hotel which has some interesting characters. The massive park across the street is filled with people doing athletics. The hotel shares a private beach with Outrigger but it is very small and there is a lot of coral and rock a few meters into the water so bring water shoes if you intend to hit the beach and enter the water. I would recommend staying here for $200/nt but at $400/nt you can do better unless your primary focus is service within the hotel because that aspect is unparalleled. We did not try the restaurant during our stay but the reviews on TA appear to be good.

Room Tip: Try to get a corner room with ocean AND diamond head views and two balconies for a good ocean breeze...

I will stay here again should I have the good fortune to return to Oahu. Great location. Tremendous staff. Had a view of Diamond Head and the beach. Close to everything, but far away enough to feel more private.

Helpful staff and welcoming ambience. Rooms are larger than usual and the views spectacular. Worth paying for the Ocean View and ours (Rm 825) also had mountain views. Free tea/coffee; iced water in lobby; and free wine were "value add" inclusions. A pool would be a bonus.

This was formerly the W Honolulu. Quiet part of town at Diamond Head, about a ten minute walk to the centre of town. Rooms really nice and contemporary. no pool, but beach a couple of minutes walk and towels can be provided. The staff were excellent especially the guy on reception with initials on his badge something like PK (?), he was friendly, interested and charming. Restaurant food very good, but dining room needs livening up with some candles and flowers on table an better lighting - does not do the food justice.
