“Great diving, great service!”
Reviewed 28 December 2008

I did my padi certification with Ken and did a ship wreck and reef dive with him afterwards. He is VERY knowledgeable and a very easy going and fun guy. He will help you feel right at home in the water and is a great instructor. His gear is in great condition and you can tell he takes care of it well. After the certification, he offers you a discount if you go on another dive with him which is already at a great price so i couldn't refuse. The price you pay gets you ALL the gear you need including wet suit if you want which is in great condition (mine was brand new) AND it gets you underwater photos as well. Ken is with you the whole way and takes some amazing pictures. All in all this was my best experience in hawaii and when i go back to hawaii i will go to ken and rainbow scuba for all my dives!

“Fun Diving in Hawaii”
Reviewed 7 December 2008

We just had an awesome experience diving in Hawaii. This was our last stop on our trip around the world and Ken from Rainbow Scuba really put a great end to our long journey. He picked us up right in front of our hotel and we went right down to the boat. All the gear was provided and was very well maintained. We went to a shipwreck, the SeaTiger, which was amazing. He was very thorough on the briefing and kept a very watchful and helpful eye on my boyfriend and I while we submerged to 100 feet. Our reef dive was also amazing. We felt extremely safe during both dives, which is very important to us. The visibility wasn't that good, but Ken made up for it with 2 octopus to play with and tons of great fish to see. He even took pictures of us on both dives and we get copies for free!! I would definitley recommend Rainbow Scuba to anyone who wants to have a great time diving in Hawaii... beware though, Ken makes some pretty funny jokes!!

“Fun experience!”
Reviewed 6 December 2008

I found "Rainbow Scuba" through TripAdvisor. It has the best review + price combination that I found online. In my research for a scuba diving instructor, I used a combination of Google, TripAdvisor, and Yelp, so I guess you could say that I did my homework. I'm writing this review from the perspective of a new diver since I was a total newbie when I went on my diving trip. :D

Ken is a great instructor, totally chill. It was my first time scuba diving and I was very lucky to be the only person diving with him that day. He's very knowledgeable about the areas that we dived in, both the types and the location of marine life. Besides colorful tropical fishes and a group of sea turtles, he showed me a fish that's well camouflaged on the sea floor. I would never noticed it if he didn't show it to me. I also went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and saw tons of fish there, but the types of fish you see when snorkeling and scuba diving are different. So even if you are planning on snorkeling, it's still worth it to go on a scuba diving trip to see the amazing marine life in Hawaii.

The great thing about Ken is that he works at your pace, not his. This is really important esp. for new divers. Since it was my first time, I had trouble with equalizing my ears in the beginning, Ken let me descent at my pace, which really helped me to not panicking when water got into my nose or mouth. So if you are a first time diver and you are reading this, yes, it's very possible that you'll swallow some sea water, but it's not a big deal. If you put the regulator in your mouth correctly, you shouldn't be drinking sea water all that much. The important thing is to do your homework beforehand, ask any questions you might have before you go into the water, and keep to your instructor's side when you're down in the water. Now since I was the only one diving with Ken that day, I don't know if anything will be different if there were other people in the group who learned faster/slower. But if you have any questions, you can and should email/call beforehand to get them answered. When I emailed Ken, he got back to me promptly. Oh, he also took pictures and put them online for you to download at no extra charge. How nice is that?

My scuba diving experience is definitely one of the highlights of my trip. I would recommend Rainbow Scuba to anyone who's looking into scuba diving companies in Hawaii. If the money for scuba diving isn't in your vacation budget, I'd say instead of going on those guided city tours, do those attractions on your own and save the money for a scuba diving trip. That's what I did and it was worth it!

“Best in Hawaii”
Reviewed 3 September 2008

This was my first time scuba diving ever and Ken did a fantastic job of putting me at ease. He was very flexible, courteous, and patient. Excellent price for the dive, instruction, equipment, etc. I would recommend him to anyone who is a first time diver or if they have some experience. Other people in my group were certified divers and they thought he was great too!

“Great diving with Ken!”
Reviewed 8 May 2008

My fiance and I went diving twice with Ken and both times were great!
He is friendly, easy-going, and great to dive with. Our groups were small (just four of us on both days) which made it a very personal experience. He picked us up from our hotel in Waikiki and drove us to the marina where we shared a boat with another dive group .....not overcrowded as some other places can get. He set up our equipment and did safety checks....and made sure we were comfortable at the start of the dive.
The dive sites were great....saw lots of wildlife, coral, etc. At
the end of the day, Ken gathered all our equipment and dropped us off at out hotel. And one great thing: he took pictures during the dive and posted them that same day! I would definitely dive with Ken again when I'm back in Oahu.
