“Perfection!”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

We stayed here after a four night camping/kayaking trip. We were ready for some pampering, and the Marcus Whitman did just that! Fabulous room, amazing food and service! We couldn't have been happier!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the old tower and upgraded to a suite.

Non-tower rooms have ancient AC units powered by helicopter engines, so you have to get the temp somewhere before you go to sleep, the turn it off and hope room stays comfortable. Four rooms on each floor are specially provided with the all-night sound of the elevator. Not enough electric outlets, furnishings and such dated. No ventilation in bathrooms, so all showers are steam baths. Restaurant excellent for dinner, ordinary for complementary breakfast. Staff are pleasant. Just push t get a good room.

Room Tip: Be careful and be pushy.

My wife and I like old places, being old ourselves. Our favorite place is La Fonda in Sante Fe, New Mexico. However, the Marcus Whitman is charming in its own way. We stayed in the Tower in a luxury king corner room. Even on a dull, cold, mid-winter day, it was nice and cozy. The draft from the windows must be costing the hotel a fortune in heating expenses because our room was toasty. Everything from the lobby to the halls is beautifully appointed. For $139 total we had a fine room, an attentive and professional desk led by Jonathan, (perfect for the “face” of the hotel, polite, informative, demure), and a fireplace to drink wine and enjoy a snowy evening in Walla Walla. Breakfast is huge, all you might want. We would do it again.

Room Tip: Room 5010 luxury king, corner room, good choice

This is our first stay, business and pleasure. The front desk, specifically Jonathan and Ashley have been like friends, and very professional, not officious, not patronizing. We are spending an extra night because of them and the other staff. The restaurant is superb, the complimentary breakfast - - all you would ever want, and lots of selection. Our suite was open, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The staff in the restaurant took care to note it was first stay/visit and provided ample time to answer our questions with great enthusiasm. Frankly, everyone we met gave us a positive feeling that they love where they work and it shows. Larry R. Bellevue, WA

I gotta tell you, it's an old building and is chilly when chilly outside. This recent trip there was freezing rIn weather, and needless to say - 'twas very chilly in bar area. I'd suggest sweaters, when roaming building. Rooms are comfy. Oh ya, remind me of the tower of terror on outside ;-)

My husband and I have wanted to stay here for a long time - it was worth the wait. The hotel is breathtaking from the moment you see the outside and once you are in you can't help but feel you are in a very, special historic place. The architecture is splendid, the decorating is so very perfect and the staff was wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask to be in the original tower.
