The Marcus Whitman is a lovely place to stay in Walla Walla. It is right downtown, which is wonderful for being able to dine and enjoy some great local wine without driving afterwards. There are several tasting rooms and restaurants within a short walk. The food/menus at the hotel itself are excellent, as I truly appreciate having local, seasonal fare options. The rooms are large and clean. The west wing, which is the only part of the hotel in which I have stayed, reflects its 1980's (?) origins, but I would rather have clean and quiet over modern decor any night. (I understand that the tower rooms might be more luxurious; perhaps for a couples weekend that upgrade would be worth the money.) In room coffee, a refrigerator and a robe are provided; nice touches that show they care about the guest's comfort. A breakfast is included, with good options and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Tower rooms may be more luxurious than the newer west wing

This historic hotel has been redone and added on to. It is walking distance to many great places to eat and shop in one of the best preserved downtown areas of a smallish town in the Pacific Northwest. The growth of the wine business has revitalized the area.

The hotel rooms are not sumptuous but are nice and well maintained. The common areas of the hotel have a comfortable ambiance and there is a beautiful Fireplace in the "Great Room". The Morning Buffet Breakfast is very good and the Dining Room is a classic with a beautiful Mural of the Valley. If you are going around the Graduation times of Walla Walla University or Whitman College it may be hard to get a room.

This is a great venue for a wedding, reception, family reunion or similar gathering as they have some large rooms which will accommodate groups. The staff are friendly and we were pleased with every aspect of our stay.

Our friends and us stayed two nights at the Marus Whitman Hotel in the west wing. All of the previous reviews
of this hotel are accurate. Our rooms were quite. For business planning a meeting there are at least three large conference rooms that look to be able to accomodate up to 200 persons each.
We were in the Walla Walla Valley to sample the excellent wines of this region. There are 4-5 premium wine tasting rooms in the hotel building or a short distance. There are plenty of quiant little shops located within blocks of the hotel for the avide shopper.
The more than ample hot breakfast is included with the room. We had an excellent meal at the hotel restaurant. The service was attentive without being smothing.
Just one bad comment on the restaurant. I had the sirloin steak. It was slivered and the sauce was served over
the likely tasty and tender meat. All of us were impressed by the dressing on the salad. If I were to order the
sirloin again I would likely ask for the sauce on the side and the channel fat to be trimmed. The meal was otherwise very good, but priced on the higher end.

Room Tip: Because my friend and I are veterans and seniors we were offered a deep discount on our rooms. You...

You won't be able to miss this one. It is the tallest building in town, dating from 1928. The rooms we stayed in were in an adjoining, more recent building but furnished in historic style. Very comfortable bed with a full bathroom, lots of amenities including excellent coffee for in-room drinking.
At 5.30 each day, freshly baked cookies are brought out. Iced tea and lemonade on tap. Common areas beautifully preserved in Art Deco style with lots of comfortable places to sit.
Inclusive breakfast is generous and with lots of different dishes including, today, something called monkey bread. No idea what that was. Everything else ok. No bread for toasting, though, but my guess is if we'd asked they would have brought some. The granola and yoghurt were home made.
Reception staff friendly and eager to please.
A great place to stay in Walla Walla wine country.

We stayed for 2 nights. We were very happy with our room in the Old Tower, except the air conditioner is fairly noisy. The beds are very comfortable and our room was spacious. The breakfast that is included in the room charge is more than ample, but nothing special. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy and some muffins and scones. The in-room coffee is better than some hotels, but not spectacular. Our friends on a different floor complained about a dog barking in another room, but they made one phone call to the front desk at 11 pm, and the next morning they got a call from the front desk assuring them it had been taken care of and wouldn't be a problem again. I will say they handle wine delivery beautifully. Each winery we visited later delivered our wine purchases to the hotel with our room number on the boxes, and when we returned from dinner all of our wine was neatly stacked in our room. I'm not sure who to tip for delivering it to the room because there is no bell staff at the hotel. Carts are available to haul your own luggage and wine, but on Sunday morning at checkout time carts can be hard to come by.

Our second trip to the Whitman. We reserved one of their least expensive rooms and they upgraded us to the tower...much nicer. Room was more attractive than the ones in the annex. Well equipped with small frig. They eliminated the small bottles and installed wall dispensers that had good quality product. Much preferred due to benefits to the environment as well as the convenience of not running out of the products you use more of. Nice front desk. The gentleman who was working one afternoon (maybe a manager?) was very helpful when selecting from the many places to taste wine within walking distance. Nice restaurants within walking distance including Saffron where we had a nice dinner. Breakfast buffet at the hotel is excellent. One of the best complementary buffets I have had.

Room Tip: The tower rooms are better and if the hotel is not full you may get an upgrade.

Green Features: Excellent...no small bottles of shampoo etc. They also do the standard things like towel and sheet reuse etc.

We stayed at the Marcus Whitman June 2, 3 and 4, 2014. We were in room 5011 in the tower and paid $190 per night. I'm surprised at the number of 5 stars given, there is no room service, bellman or concierge, all basic things I think a 5 star property should have. That said, the lobby is beautiful and elegant. The first 7 floors are hotel, the rest are apartments.
Our "Executive Tower King" room was a basic room, and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was large with a fabulous walk in shower!
When we checked in we had a "trainee" so we missed any information about the hotel, we didn't even know there was artwork on the 2nd floor.

Room Tip: When I made the reservation I was told I could have a room that looked out at the wheat fields or d...
