Great accommodations.. Cynthia is a smooth hostess and Rich is very knowledgeable of the Walla Walla Walla wine scene. Not to mention that Rich is also a chef and the breakfasts were real treats. Next time we'll try the Fat Duck Dinner that Rich produces with local wine parings.

Room Tip: They are all great - we stayed in the Widgeon room that provides a lounge area outside the bedroom w...

We had the opportunity to visit Walla Walla wine country for a few days last week, and happened on the Fat Duck Inn through a web search. Often with web searches, it's difficult to really know a place, but after calling and having a nice chat with Cynthia, the owner and hostess, we were sold! We were fortunate to have the choice of any of the five rooms in the house since we were there mid-week, and also to get the third night free since it was mid-week, so we picked the biggest room and were off to a great start on our trip.

On our way into town we stopped at Woodward Canyon winery and when we told them where we were staying they raved about the owner/chef (Cynthia's husband, Rich) saying that he was the best chef in Walla Walla! Now we were REALLY looking forward to our stay, and sampling his work at breakfast. And during our visits to wineries over the two days we were there, we learned that many have done wine pairing dinners with him, and they all raved about his work.

When we arrived on Tuesday late afternoon, we were greeted by Cynthia with a glass of wine which was quite welcome after a long day's drive from Gig Harbor. We really hit it off with Cynthia who made us feel extremely welcome and at home, almost as if we were long lost friends coming to spend a few days with them. She had terrific restaurant recommendations (Brasserie 4, Saffron, and White House Crawford, all of which we tried and all of which were wonderful) within walking distance in downtown Walla Walla.

The breakfast fulfilled all our expectations, and was quite unique with a baked frittata and fresh fruit, as well as freshly baked muffins, yogurt, and homemade granola. We chatted with Rich, who runs a catering business from his massive commercial kitchen attached to the house in the converted garage. He holds wine pairing dinners in the large dining room most weekends, and we wished we could stay the weekend and sample them, but our plans didn't allow.

We WILL be back, next time on a weekend so we can enjoy the wine pairing dinners!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Pintail room the first two nights which is on the main floor and the largest room...

We stayed for 2 nights during the weekend. Our experience started with great interactions with Cynthia over the phone, who was warm and informative. She gladly arranged a late check-in for us as we were arriving late, and everything was set up exactly as she described.

We stayed in the Loon Room which was the only one without an ensuite bathroom, but the bathroom was IMPECCABLY clean and large. The pictures on the website did not do the room justice as it was comfortable, roomy, very clean and had all the amenities you might think of (i.e. hairdryer, luxurious bathrobes, tv, nice toiletries, etc.). We are VERY picky about things being clean, and this was a seriously clean and tidy house. In the mornings, we were greeted by Cynthia who genuinely care about each of her guests with a warm frittata with farm-fresh ingredients (we had asparagus one day and mushroom the other) made by Rich paired with a buffet of fruits, yogurt/granola, homemade muffins and tea/coffee/juice. Both Cynthia and Rich have a wealth of knowledge about Walla Walla, and they were happy to share their favorite wineries and restaurants.

Although we weren't able to join their winemaker dinner, but just hearing Rich talk about how he creates the menus with the winemakers and his cooking philosophy was enough to make us want to return again! We usually are not the type of people who spend a lot of time chatting with B&B owners, but Cynthia and Rich are just awesome and so warm and welcoming. One evening, we took an extended nap and overslept our dinner reservation, and as we were rushing out to try to get to the restaurant before it closed, Cynthia actually called the restaurant to make sure they would take us. We were very touched by her thoughtfulness. Wonderful experience!

Are you kidding?! We loved this place! And we can hardly wait to return. Cynthia was warm and welcoming, and made the details of getting there very easy. Culinary genious Rich created extraordinary, healthy, & tasty breakfasts for us both mornings. He was just as good at telling stories. He and Cynthia were engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable about where to go and what to do in Walla Walla. Our room, the Merganser, was clean, spacious, private, and oh, so comfortable. We were able to rest, relax, and restore. This was the perfect place to stay!

We stayed for a night and can't wait to go back. The room was exceptional and so comfortable. Wonderful bed and linens! Rich the owner/Chef served a fabulous breakfast that hit all the senses. We can't wait to go back for one of his Chef dinners. Cynthia was warm and inviting and had a wonderful way about her. The house was clean and impeccably kept. Location was perfect for a stroll into town for wine tasting. Highly recommend this Inn.

I'm sure Walla Walla is gorgeous in the summer, but it sure was fun in the winter. We took advantage of a great deal to stay at the Fat Duck, run by Rich and Cynthia Koby. Traffic is light in the winter, so we essentially had the house to ourselves. The house is a pleasant bungalo/crafstmen just a handful of blocks from downtown. In the summer, it would have been an easy walk, but we chose to drive in when it was in the 30s! Breakfasts were made by Rich, and man were they delicious. It's hard to please a Portland foodie, but Rich's frittata with mama lil's peppers, goat cheese, and potatoes was killer; his chocolate muffin and his marionberry muffin were equally tasty. We were definitely fortified to face the winter chill and go out and enjoy the wine and the scenery. The other thing about Walla Walla in winter is that you have everyone's attention. This was confided to me by several tasting room pourers and restaurant servers. We were able to make same-day reservations at Brasserie 4 and Saffron--two of the top restaurants there...apparently that would never happen in the summer. The best thing though was that once inside of these establishment, we were able to have long and fun conversations with most everyone. I truly think we got a great Walla Walla experience, so consider going in the winter. Whenever you go, stay at the Fat Duck Inn...for sure. I haven't mentioned Cynthia, but she was a lovely hostess, and my girlfriend and I had a great time making plans with her--over an arrival glass of wine or one of Rich's great breakfasts.
