“A Fantastic Choice”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

This was my first time to Walla Walla. My boyfriend and I were both extremely happy with our choice of stay. The home sits in a great, classic neighborhood with many old craftsmen style homes within walking distance to town. The owners were very welcoming and made us feel like home, and served fantastic breakfasts that we enjoyed having on the front porch. Our hosts were also very informative and led us to all we were looking to experience.

My wife and I decided to experience the up and coming wine and culinary area of Walla Walla. For our five night trip to this hidden jewel of a town, we selected (based on other Trip Advisor Reviews) the Fat Duck Inn. While the reviews we had read sang the praises of the the Inn, as well as Cynthia and Rich, words of praise are insufficient to describe what a great place this is. From the great location in the historic downtown area, to the comfortable appointments of the Inn, to the knowledgeable and welcoming "hosting" of Cynthia to the truly incredible culinary talents and attention to detail that Rich displayed at both our daily breakfasts fit for a king as well as an "out of this world" food and paired wine celebration of the Fourth of July our stay could not have been better.

We experienced a perfect combination of privacy and helpful and friendly hospitality throughout our stay. The attention to detail, evident each morning in Rich's breakfast creations and fully on display at the dinner was remarkable. But as good as the food was, and let me tell you it was more than the equal of the finest restaurants we have been to in New York, Washington, San Fransisco or any major foodie city, the experienced was enhanced by the welcoming atmosphere created by Cynthia and Rich.

Walla Walla delivered all we had hoped for as we enjoyed great wine tastings (don't miss the reserve tastings at L'Ecole 41, Dunham and Long Shadows), fantastic restaurants (The tasting meal at the Marc and dinner at Saffron) and great golf at Wine Valley.

The only negative was having to leave, but even that was offset a bit by planning our next, of hopefully many, return trips to the Fat Duck Inn.

This was my third visit to the Inn, and Rich and Cynthia treat us like family. The breakfasts were great, and Rich introduced a new pastry that was unbelievable. There is always a fun crowd at the Inn, sharing notes and making connections.

Room Tip: The downstairs suite is great for post dinner relaxation

While Walla Walla in itself is an unheralded jewel, the Fat Duck Inn is the perfect compliment to the quaint and welcoming wine-driven community. My wife and I visited during the third week of June and everything associated with our trip was fantastic. Rich and Cynthia are incredibly gracious and hospitable hosts and made us feel welcome from the minute that we walked in. With their vast knowledge of the area, wonderful recommendations, and great food, we enjoyed every moment spent at the inn.

I cant say enough nice things about Cynthia as she had every angle of our trip covered. From helping us with dinner reservations to scheduling private tastings, she went way above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that we were exposed to as much of the local culture as possible. Rich helped us plan our vineyard tours based on our personal tastes and interests which was really refreshing. As a result, we tasted some of the finest wines in the valley and made a few friends along the way. He's also an amazing chef and does a great rendition of "ribs and eggs."

If you're lucky enough to stay at the Fat Duck, you're lucky enough! That said, be sure to allow Rich and Cynthia the opportunity to help make your trip memorable as they truly are interested in helping all of their guests see the best that Walla Walla has to offer.

Room Tip: The Merganser Room is the only room available upstairs which provides extra privacy and quiet. Very...

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary for 3 days in Walla Walla golfing at Wine Valley and staying at the Fat Duck/Widgeon room. Our stay was most relaxing. The hosts, Cynthia and Rich are knowledgeable and pointed us to some good restaurants because Rich is a chef himself. The breakfasts were very tasty, perhaps a bit on the light side. We found the inn to be impeccably clean. The satiny sheets were a nice touch. The inn is located in a quiet and beautiful older district of town. Many of the 100 year old homes are fixed up and nicely landscaped. Writing this makes me miss it and want to go back.

Room Tip: The Merganser suite is the choice room.

We stayed one night in the Pintail Suite at the Fat Duck Inn. The suite was very nice with a sitting area and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi. The location was perfect as we cod walk to town for wine tasting and dinner. Cynthia was very helpful with recommendations and directions. In the morning we enjoyed a delicious breakfast outside on the terrace. Richard made frittatas with bacon and gruyere cheese and popovers.
We hope to return for a longer visit.

We stayed at the FatDuck while doing wine tasting and it was perfect! It sits in a great walking neighborhood and a easy walk to downtown, parks and the college. Cynthia was a great host and our meal that was cooked by Rich was so good! He did a great job pairing our food with great wine from SuLei, and it was a beautiful night so we got to eat on the patio. Then breakfast, also cooked by Rich was very nice. It felt very warm and comfortable. We will be back!!
