“Good hotel, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

My wife and I stayed here for one night while attending a show at a nearby theater. Overall we had a nice stay. Check-in and check-out were swift. Our room was comfortable and met our needs. The only strange thing about the room was the coffee maker. The coffee maker was one that brewed one cup at a time. Nothing wrong with that except the sachets that contained the coffee were obviously meant for a different style and larger coffee maker. Maybe they had new coffee makers but had some old coffee sachets that they were trying to use up. The location of the hotel is great, right in the heart of downtown Cincinnati with lots of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options within easy walking distance. I would not hesitate to stay here again if in Cincinnati.

I'm surprised by some of the other reviews here, because I thought the Westin had great rooms, great bathrooms, and a great bed. Westin knows how to do it right. My only complaint was that they still had an old-fashioned Mr. Coffee instead of a modern Keurig. The location is great -- right on Fountain Square in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. There is a McCormick and Shmidt's on the ground floor, and other good restaurants close by. This is probably the best hotel in downtown Cincinnati.

We stayed three nights and were hugely disappointed. First, recognize that by the time you add in taxes, parking, and internet, your cost per night will be over $250. For that you get a drab hotel sorely in need of a refresh. Everything is grey and brown; it's downright depressing. Our room faced Fountain Square and during check in, the desk clerk warned us that there was music on weekend nights until 11 PM "or so", so she was giving us a room on a high floor. Turns out the music from a club across the square will blast you out of your bed until 2AM, high floor or not. We ended up getting ear plugs for our last night and could still hear it. There's no water pressure on high floors and the room was not particularly clean. It takes forever to get your car from valet parking because the entrance area is so congested. If you want to go to the McCormick and Schmicks (in the same building as the hotel), you have to go outside to get there. There's no direct hotel entrance. A movie in the room is $19. There are just so many things "off" with this Westin, that you end up feeling like a fool for staying there. Never again.

Room Tip: Do not, under any circumstances, stay on the Fountain Square side.

The location of the hotel is very good. The rooms are comfortable, but nothing special. The rooms don't have any outlets or smart phones, or laptops on any of the tables surfaces or light fixtures. The rooms have outstanding beds. You sleep like a baby. I would stay again in this hotel, even though I would charge my mobile in the lower wall outlets.

We stayed at this Westin overnight on a road trip, and I'm sad to say that I was really disappointed. We are Starwood Preferred Guest members, and we are typically very pleased with Starwood properties. This hotel just wasn't up to usual Westin standards. The hallways were so sterile in decor that it was almost creepy. Then the room itself was in need of a rehab. The bathroom counter was missing a chunk of granite, and there was lots of chipped paint. The bed was fine, and the bathroom did have a rainfall shower head, which is a nice touch. But I expect much better for what I paid. The parking fee is quite high, but that is typical of a hotel inside a large city. We were supposed to stay here on our drive back home, but we opted to skip it for a hotel that was a much better value.

Hotel-good location, but nothing exceptional. There is really no good dining place within the hotel and no room service. The hotel is very "business like" nothing posh or pretty.

Rooms-clean, but just very standard. Nothing great about them. Shower heads are not "women who don't want to get their hair wet" friendly. Bring a shower cap. Beds are comfortable.

Proximity-the location is great there is a Morton's, McCormick and Schmicks etc nearby- walkable. Saks and Macy's is also very close and within walking distance.

Noise- if you are planning your stay here on a weekend BEWARE!! There is apparently a new club very close nearby who plays the music and base VERY loud until 2:00-2:30 in the morning. I had a fountain view room and it was like the club was right in the next room. RIDICULOUS! You spend $250 a night for a hotel and you can't have peace and quiet in your room? Rest assured though- the hotel will atleast offer you ear plugs. Seriously. Ear plugs?

All of the before mentioned items could probably be overlooked with the exception of the noise. It is utterly ridiculous! This isn't Las Vegas. It's Cincinnati! People do sleep.

I stayed in the city once before at the Hilton Netherland. I HIGHLY recommend that hotel over this for overall better rooms and atmpsphere- although I can't speak to the noise there due to the new club.

For a WESTIN- this location just doesn't add up.

This hotel is directly across from Fountain Square. It is one of the best choices for a stay in downtown Cincinnati. It is reliable Westin -- solid, nothing exciting, but fairly nice and predictable for the most part, especially for business people (of which there are a surprisingly large amount visiting Cincinnati every time I visit).

The first level off the street is a bit odd, with mostly empty space in an atrium shared with other businesses (including a FedEx Kinko's). There are doormen only on the Vine St. side. You're on your own on the 5th St. side, where on the street, you might find tourists, business people, regular folks, or quite likely, one of the quirky types (many homeless) wandering the streets of downtown Cincinnati. In the area generally, you won't feel unsafe, but you will be wary walking around. And you'll only feel relief once you're up one level in the check-in lobby. That space is comfortable, and the re-designed bar is nice.

The rooms are typical Westin, with the views towards Fountain Square generally better, though some high-floor views towards the river can be nice too. Every one I have stayed in has been clean and comfortable.

The restaurant for breakfast is fine, but nothing special. Vine St. has a few good choices for lunch or dinner, including a McCormick & Schmick's in the building.

Although the area is somewhat seedy, I do suggest exploring a bit. The city has an interesting feel, and there are some good bars and restaurants (and a few shops, though not many) nearby. Go up Vine and Walter for the most choices. Down towards the river and to the East there are also some nice buildings and museums. Otherwise, you'll need a car to explore more broadly.

I will continue to stay here for every business trip to Cincinnati.

Room Tip: Ask for a high-floor with a view and good light.
