Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge

Copper River Princess Lodge offers very nice accommodations and the location can't be beat. The lodge is located just outside of Wrangell-St Elias National Park. The rooms are not luxurious. They are set up like basic hotel rooms, but are clean and comfortable and offer great views. The lodge is surrounded by natural beauty and offers many hiking trails. There is an area with historical displays outside of the lodge. Views are incredible including a very nice view of the Alaska pipeline. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and helpful. There's a very nice sitting area and a well stocked gift shop in the lobby. There are two very nice restaurants on site. The food was very good, portions were great, and prices were fair. A few Princess Cruise tour busses came and went, but it was always a calm, relaxing environment. We travelled to Denali and Seward, but the highlight of our Alaska trip was Wrangell-St Elias NP and the Copper River Princess Lodge.

This was our first lodge on our Princess landtour "Off the Beaten Path". I loved this lodge, very secluded quiet, clean and everyone was very friendly. The room was ok, had all the necessary things, but not a refrigerator. We had no view from our room, but didn't spend too much time in there anyway. Went to the great room most of the time it had the views, fireplace, couches, tables piano, etc. The food was good in both restaurants, good thing because we were miles maybe even hours away from the nearest restaurant. Nice hiking around went for a 4 wheeler excursion that was great.

We stayed 1 night at the Copper River Princess and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful location overlooking the Wrangle-St. Elias Mountains. The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean, comfortable but basic. It was definitely the best choice in the area. After traveling many miles in a vehicle, we appreciated the beautiful walking trails around the lodge to stretch our legs and take in the incredible scenery. On the downside, the Wi-Fi didn't reach our room and was only usable in the lobby area. The service in the bar was terrible and we were completely ignored for at least 10 minutes even though numerous servers were all around us. We were about to give up and leave when the locals we had been chatting with in the bar told us, "It's the end of the season, you have to cut them slack because they are burn't out." While I had empathy & patience for them, I was expecting better, especially for the high cost of the food and beverages. The restaurant breakfast service was not much better although the food was adequate. Burnt out employees aside, it was overall a very good stay and I would stay there again, but not in September when it is the end of their season.

Stayed here a part of Princess Cruise tour. Small but adequate room with comfortable bed-clean. Views from Lodge are beautiful, you never forget you are remote. Nature walk paths are well marked and close by. Staff were always helpful. Ate in bar as restuarant was always busy. Food was right off restuarant menu. Great bartenders and dined with several "locals" at the bar. Great story tellers. Most enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Request room with mountain view, we had the parking lot.

According to staff, only 3,000 people live within a 25 mile radius. Rooms are exactly like those at Denali Princess; small. Beautiful setting close to Wrangle Eilas National Park, and very little else. We took the drive to McCarthy and the road is not nearly as bad as they suggested. The restaurants (2) are good and the breakfast buffet is average with high prices. Service was OK and the front desk team was friendly and informed about the local area. They acted like we were asking for a lot when we wanted to change to a room with less noise and there were rooms available and they refused to move us to a room with a view of the mountains. Our room looked out onto the parking pat and entrance and the bus traffic and employee traffic was heavy and noisy.
Overall; an adequate hotel with high prices and average services.

Room Tip: Reserve a room with a mountain view, otherwise you'll get the parking lot and bus traffic.

very nice! If you go in June, you will see the 24 sun solstice. It is priceless.
The resort is very well equipped and it has free internet from the lobby. It is a good place to be in contact with nature.

Room Tip: Very quiet rooms

We already stopped by this lodge last year and we were slightly disappointed by the staff attitude and the quality of the room. Nevertheless, we decided to come back to this hotel this year and we spent one night on Aug 22. We immediately saw a change compare to last year. The staff was professional and smiling and gave us all the information we needed. The room was clean. We had a diner at the restaurant and were satisfied. We did not experienced again the breakfast, because we were disappointed last year. The WiFi is only available in the lobby which is a constraint and the lobby is very often noisy. So, one improvement would be to have the Wifi available in the rooms. Another improvement probably more important is the phonic isolation of the rooms. The one we had this year was just above the external air conditioning/ventilation system which was very noisy. With ear plug it was ok! All in all, this is a good place to stay on the Richardson HWY

Room Tip: if possible, try to get room with a view on the mountains or far from external ventilation system
