The building (all of it - lodge, restaurant, etc) burned down in May, 2012. THe local "scoop" is that it was due to an electrical fire that may have started in the laundry room. The complex is currently being rebuilt but as of October, 2012, that only went so far as the slab and plywood walls. Call ahead before summer to check their status.

The first thing you will notice is that the sign on the front states, "Copper Center Roadhouse" and not Copper Center Lodge, so you might miss the place. The restaurant was the best feature. It does not have an extensive menu but the dinner and breakfast were very good. The waitresses and the front desk clerks were friendly. Although we were not surprised to find a small room in an old Alaskan lodge, they need to clean up the place. The bathroom was unacceptable. The shower curtain was disgusting, the toilet was dirty, and the sink was very rusty. These problems were not the result of an untidy customer, but from years of no attention. We didn't need air conditioning, but it would have been nice to sleep with an open window. The screen frame was bent in several places, so we had to close the window due to the high volume of mosquitoes. The beds are old. The place was lots of potential and attending to some small details would make it a lot better.

Service begrudging, room cramped, noisy. Not worth a third of the price.

The lodge was LOUD! Dirty! and dysfunctional! The front desk secretary was confused about our (internet-confirmed) reservations and had to call her mother over (wine-glass in-hand) to figure it out. I noticed 4 dogs roving about the place and was amused, since I LOVE dogs! I have 2 of my own and yes, they occasionally have "accidents" HOWEVER!!!...the first thing I noticed when I woke up after my night's rest was the 12 piles of dog $*#% in front of my door, down the hall, and at the bottom of the stairs (which one of the guests had stepped in, upon waking and heading downstairs for breakfast). By the way, I left the building at 6:45 AM and returned at 1:00 PM to check out, and the $&*! was still there. The lodge was VERY loud! there is NO! soundproofing and a guest can hear everything, no matter the location in the building. The bathroom is tiny (I'm really not that big) but the door hit the toilet mid-line, the shower could barely hold me, and the towels smelled odd. The restaurant was very good! That was really the only high point of the stay. Since the owners/operators of the lodge clearly don't read or care about the reviews on TripAdvisor, I don't expect the service or facilities to change any time soon. We had a reservation @ the Sawing Logzz B&B for 2 nights, but finished our job early. It looked fantastic! Try them first.

the hotel is on an historic site but it is not a charme hotel. There are a lot of luxury hotels in old buildings but this is not one of them. Rooms are very small even if you don't have luggages, some rooms have the private bathroom out of the room. Walls are very thin and you can hear anything from other rooms. Bath is old and very small. If you go in the garden outside pay attention to the "gifts" of the three dogs of the owner.
Food is ok, no alcool. Staff is very kind. Internet connection is good, at&t coverage not.

My wife and I stayed at the Copper Center Lodge for two nights to visit Wrangell-Sant Elias NP, as the Copper Center Princess wilderness lodge happened to be closed for the season. I was somewhat concerned with prior posts, but my brother had stayed there some five years ago and told me it was quaint but OK, so I decided to give it a try. Its website looked great, and the room photographs were quite appealing.
Overall, our stay was OK but the place has some issues. Our room (number 2) had bad soundproofing and we could hear the main lobby TV as early as 5.30 am. and other guests snoring all night long. The second night was far more silent. The place is quaint, the rooms have updated decor, but it did not bother us very much, as that gave the feeling of being in "real" Alaska.
Service was OK and the hotel building is very beautiful.
The hotel restaurant serves very good breakfast as well as great steaks and burgers. We enjoyed our four meals (2 breakfasts and two dinners) there very much.
The places was packed with hunters, but besides the loud TV early in the morning, everybody was well behaved.
I would recommend this place if you want to have a true Alaskan experience.
