“Beautiful views”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

Takes about 90 minutes to get up all the stairs and back, lots of places to relax on the way to the top. Or you can drive all the way to the top if you don't want to drive. Be prepared to see an elk, however don't feed it :)

“Very different!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

After seeing most of Yellowstone we were weary travelers and not sure we wanted to make another stop. Soooo glad we did. This is not like the other spots. It is totally different and just as awe-inspiring.

“Not worth the drive anymore”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Unforunately this is not worth visiting unless you have never seen it before For years this was very nice, but now almost gone. Visit once if you have never been, but spend time elsewhere in park. North loop drives and north east drive are great for animals

“Busy, but worth persevering”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The drive to Mammoth is lovely in itself - keep a sharp eye open for wildlife!

We walked along the boardwalk by the lower terrace and then drove around the upper. It was busy, and parking was a bit of an issue, but the views and amazing rock formations are fantastic! Well worth jockeying for a space.

The Upper terrace entrance isn't well signed - we missed it first go-round - just bear in mind its very close to the lower terrace.

Otherwise Mammoth has a large cafe which does quite good food if you're in need of lunch.

“Start here and you won't be disappointed!”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

I think this is the perfect place to start visiting Yellowstone and if your traveling plans enables it You should start here and only then go to see the geysers and other thermal activity. You can view here amazing colors and really walk at your own pace on the boardwalk and not have to await a geyser to erupt in order to understand and enjoy the beauty of this place.
If you don't have enough time to do both upper and lower terrace I would choose the lower one aith the board walk, because there a lot more features there and you have better views of the rest of mammoth area from above. The upper terrace is a smaller loop you need to drive to, just a minute away from the lower one, but there isn't much to see. most of the points there are dry now and although they say the park is always changing and you can never know when it will be "alive" again it just wasn't as impressive as the lower one. you can climb all the way through the lower terrace and walk the upper one too, but we made it all the way through the board walk to the overlook and it was enough. I was impressed to see that most of the boardwalk is wheelchair/strollers accessible so everyone can enjoy the beauty!
