“Not to be missed!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

It is so beautiful and serene back here, and worth the 2 mile detour off the main loop road. If the weather is warm, bring your swim suit so you can wade in the river. The thermal waters flow into the river upstream to make it warmer. We did not swim, but there were a TON of people who were. Wish we had brought our suits!

“Firehole Geyser at sunset--most beautiful Yellowstone moment”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

The title says it all. Save this short drive off the main road for late afternoon, then watch the colors as the sun sets to the west behind the geyser. Which goes off every few days, but the eruption is not what you're there to see, it's the way the light plays on the rings around the geyser hole in the fading evening light. Stunning.

“Scenic”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

The drive is beautiful. The swimming area was cold, apparently the hot springs do not drain into the river now as they have in the past.

“Take a break for a swim!”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Our kids think the highlight of our 4 days in Yellowstone was swimming in the Firehole River off Firehole Canyon Drive. It certainly isn't a private swimming hole (plenty of crowds) but the kids thought it was a blast. Some sort of water footwear is recommended. The rocks are slippery and tough to navigate barefoot.

“Do you know what "hole" means?”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

We didn't. It refers to the old mountain men's use for valley. So this is the Fire Valley Canyon Drive. Guess what they have in this Valley. Yes...thermal activity. Geysers, hot springs, etc.
