“Great central location for the park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We lucked out getting a campsite here. We were very centrally located where everyday we could drive out and explore in a different direction. Overall the sites are a little close here, our site had the fire pit right next to where you had to put your tent so that was concerning but looking at the other sites they were not that bad. Our loop was on a hill, we were on the bottom area and the sites above us could still have a view over us. They could use more bathrooms here, only one stall in the mens room for a fairly large area. We gave this a 4 star because of the location, otherwise it is a 3 star. But you have to keep in mind how many thousands of people use these sites in a 2 month period. There are no showers here but if you go over to Canyon there are showers there, which are hot and there is no time limit like most places. There is also a store at Canyon and a place to get ice cream.

Like most of the campgrounds in Yellowstone it can be difficult to get a site due to the high demand. We ended up with a spot in Loop A close to the restrooms, so we weren't sure to expect. But it was great! The location of the campground is wonderful, central in the park, especially if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of some of the other areas. The Norris Geyser Basin may also be the most underrated section of the park and there is a walking trail right to it! There are a couple of bison that hang around the campground so you get regular close-ups. They have a bear box and fire rings at every site (each one that we saw anyways), and sell firewood and ice onsite. They also had a dishwashing sink in the bathroom building. Our specific site was great also, there was light and more activity around the restrooms but nothing disturbing. We will definitely stay here again when we go back!

Room Tip: We stayed in loop A, we'd heard that is the best place.

This campground is great. I've stayed in campground A and B, but didn't get a chance to visit campground C. Campground A is much greater in terms of view than campground B, but in cold unpleasant weather, campground A can be very windy, which is ultimately why we had to move to B. The washrooms are close by, there is a place to wash dishes, and it is very peaceful. They provide you with a wooden table, fire area and an area to park your car and another area to set up your tent if you have to. Awesome stay overall

We concur with those who say it's best to get a place early. We arrived at 8:00 a.m. and so had our choice. A loop is the best in terms of scenery from one's site, but many of the sites are close together with little privacy. Since the best A loop sites were taken, we stayed in B loop in a relatively quiet, private site for 3 nights. We loved it. The one mile hike to Norris Geyser Basin is lovely and we met no one on the trail either going or coming. The one problem is that there needs to be more than one bathroom per loop. With its central location in terms of Yellowstone Park, Norris is an ideal place to stay while doing day excursions to other places in the park.

Well maintained campground, though you have to go to e.g. Canyon village(20 minutes drive) for shower. It's very lucky for us to get an site in loop A, not by Gibbon river, but in the woods. They got a big bear box on site, as well as a fire pit and a picnic table. The space is very good compared to Canyon village or other camping site we've been stayed in the trip. And in the morning, two elks and one bison are just 200 feet away in the meadow! That's fantastic!

Besides, Norris is one of the most convenient camping sites in the Yellowstone. We really love the place and would definite stay longer next time!

We stayed 2 nights here in a pop-up camper. The good: The site was wooded and level; quite a nice site really on the C loop and the Norris location is convenient. The bad: Getting a site in high season is quite stressful - people get very aggressive about claiming sites, even setting up while the current occupants are there, and this hectic running around claiming sites you don't want to hedge your bets, ughh, it is not my idea of vacation fun. The ugly: The bathrooms had no soap nor towels - but did have notices of rotavirus posted. Even cheap soap would be a significant public health benefit. BYO soap and towels, and a hook for your ditty bag.

We tented here for 3 nights just before July 4th. It was great; water, clean bathrooms, quiet enough but not too quiet; and a great location. They had fire wood for sale at a reasonable price. Kids enjoyed the Buffalo wondering around the campground.

Room Tip: If your tenting, the W spots in the A loop were great; but you have to walk a little further from yo...
