“Roughriders, our favorite lodging in park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2012

When we booked our first ever trip to Yellowstone national park it was a year in advance and we,(2 couples -best friends, ages 46-62) we all very hyped up in the planning of it. So choosing our lodging was a pretty quick and agreeable thing with us, 2 nights OF area, 2 nights lake area, 2 nights Roosevelt area to split up the trip. When choosing the Roosevelt area, we were all gung ho about 2 nights in a rough rider cabin...."NO PROBLEM" everyone said happily!!!
As the trip grew closer, we started wondering if indeed we did the correct thing, NONE of us are campers, and SOME, who shall remain nameless, like their "COMFORTS"
It ended up being OUR VERY favorite place on the trip in the park!!!!!! The tiny cabins are adorable!!!! I know they are spartan, but you go in knowing that...and what do you really need??? The little pellet stove is great, (as long as you know what to do!!! LOL another story) The bathrooms and showers are so close, and AS CLEAN as anything I have ever seen!!! They are way better than the bathrooms you have IN your cabins at Lake !!!! I would not hesitate to stay here again, and to be as close to Lamar Valley as we were, able to go back and forth even when it was dark out because you were so close to where you were staying. We were able to be out very early and very late which let us have AMAZING wildlife sightings, 2 wolf packs soooooo close that we watched for hours!!!! Love love love Roosevelt rough riders in case you couldnt tell!!!

Very comfortable if spartan, log burner for heating. We enjoyed every moment. The restaurant nearby was very good and there is a well stocked friendly bar. We did not have our own ensuite toilet facilities which added to the back to nature thing. The communal facilities were spotless.

We stayed 2 nights here in august so we could experience wonderful Lamar valley and hayden valley. We saw many animals, moose, wolf pack, elk, pronghorn, ect. Beautiful scenery too. Great location to go northeast exit. We drove to moose junction and saw bull moose. We enjoyed the cabin because we were so tired from miles of hiking and driving. The beds were comfortable and clean. The cabin is well, a cabin, 2 beds, a table and a wood stove for heat. I got down to high 30's- 40's so we only used the stove for a few hours. There are many centrally located showers/bathrooms so we didnt have to walk far, probably 10-25 yards at the most. Bathrooms were clean, showers were hot with good pressure. There were never more than one or two other women there at once but i didnt shower until late and we left very early each am. It has some lighting around the cabins but is typically very dark in places. I always carried a flashlight as it backs up to the woods and I didnt want to run into a bear. It only took a few minutes to walk to the lodge and general store. Nice small gift shop there and bar. Drink was only $5.00. Take it outside and sit in the rocking chairs and enjoy the mountain air. The restaurant, I thought, was good. They cant make cole slaw so skip that and they dont recommend the potato salad. The service all around was good, people very friendly. The roosevelt beans were fantastic and the bbq ribs. Its cowboy country, they know meat and beans. Lol. Bring eye drops and nasal spray as the air has been dry and dusty. I would absolutly recommend roosevelt lodge and will go again and stay longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the bathroom and close to the lodge.

My family does not camp and this is as close to camping as we hope to get. We were fortunate to get a cabin with a bathroom. It was what I expected because I knew to set the bar low. The bathroom was very small - shower and toilet - sink in the sleeping area. It was doable for two nights for a family of four including two youngish kids. Would not work with teenagers IMO. Small desk area was nice and not sharing walls with other cabins also a plus. We drove into the park from the NE entrance so this location worked well. Also did the cookout which was outstanding. Service in the lodge was very slow despite medium crowds seemed inefficient. Free coffee in the morning in the lobby was appreciated.

Room Tip: Frontier cabins have a private bathroom.

This hotel has a beautiful porch with gorgeous views. The cabins are basic bud I had no complaints. The location is perfect and you should travel to Lamars Valley at dusk for animal viewing. One thing that must be avoided at all costs is the wagon dinner ride. They will tell you to arrive no later than 4:45 and you will wait for over an hour and it doesn't seem to faze any of the staff that you rushed to arrive on time.

I had originally booked a single bed roughrider cabin, but when a friend was able to join me for a couple of nights in Yellowstone, I was happy to have been able to change my reservation a week out to a cabin with three double beds. The cabin was spacious and had the essentials for a relaxing and restful night's sleep. As other have reported, there is a wood stove for heat and a 20" box fan for cooling. We stayed in mid July and it was neither hot nor cold at night . . . perfect for sleeping. Our cabin (#54) was right in front of the communal shower & restroom building so that was perfect. Especially nice was the free ice also located at the restrooms building. Guest receive a more than adequate supply of bath towels and wash cloths so no need to bring your own. I look forward to staying here again when I return to Yellowstone. For the price, you cannot beat the price for lodging INSIDE the park!

Room Tip: Plan on staying here for at least a couple of days if you are interested in wildlife viewing in Lama...

We stayed three nights at the Roosevelt Lodge in late June and would definitely go back. We rented a handicapped accessible cabin so that we would have a private bathroom (suggested by the reservations agent, not me). At the age of 60, I'm long past using a shared bath/shower facility. We loved the area! Our cabin was small, but very comfortable. Our daughter's family had a more rustic cabin without a private bath, but they had no complaints. We only ate two meals at the lodge, and they were both average - nothing memorable. The staff was friendly and helpful. This area had a feeling of authenticity to it, as you were surrounding by lovely vistas rather than parking lots. Since this is on the north end of the park, it is a long drive down to Old Faithful and the Paint Pots, but after staying at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, I preferred the Roosevelt Lodge accomodations.

Room Tip: If you want a private bathroom, but an ADA room. Higher in price, but worth it!
