“Basic & better than expected - Frontier B5”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

We stayed in the less expensive Frontier cabins for 2 nights. B5 is on the end so no buildings to one side. It was a group of 4 cabins, our party had 3 of the 4. The ice machine was in a building right nearby. I think we had the outdoor phone available to everyone if needed. We were fortunate in that no one nearby was noisy. The outside of the building could use sprucing up. Our door was a bit sticky & did not seen to close properly but the lock worked. It's very basic, but clean & convenient. All staff we encountered were friendly & helpful. Loved the grill & the gift shops.

17th and 18th August
Our cabin had a queen bed (as advertised) and was clean and comfortable. Unlike the cabin at Old Faithfull it didn't have a coffee maker which was inconvenient. As has been mentioned elsewhere the cabin wasn't well sound-proofed, whether this is a problem is dependant on who you have for neighbours.
The pine trees around the cabin were populated with chipmunks which were cute.
The plug in our washbasin didn't work (sink didn't hold water) and the cold tap could only produce a trickle. We mentioned this to 2 cleaners but nothing was done, maybe because it was a weekend or maybe because we should have reported it to the reception desk.
We paid $116 and in our view the cabin wasn't worth more than the cabin at Old Faithfull ($113) which we consider to have been superior. That said, the location is first class for visiting the Canyon and Falls. The South Rim walk to Sublime Point is well worth doing in the early morning.

We stayed here on our family vacation. We had two "cabins" for 4 nights. When I first heard cabin, I thought a stand alone building, with a kitchen, living room, etc. but these are just individual rooms. They did provide us with a roll away bed in one of the rooms, because we had 6 people. Like other posts state, the rooms are VERY basic but they were clean, no bugs, and centrally located in Yellowstone. Each room includes: two full (maybe queen) beds, a desk, an arm chair, sink & mirror, shower & toilet, and heater. Not included: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker or hairdryer, so plan accordingly. They do provide shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower. House keeping came by everyday and replaced towels and made up our beds. Linens are only changed every 4 days unless you tell them otherwise. Our heater worked great, and it was a must! We went the first week of Sept and needed it every night (temps got down into the 30-40s). Others wrote they had trouble with thin walls, but the 4 nights we were there I never had any problems with loud neighbors. Also, you do have to drive to the ice machine (depending on which cabin you are in) but it's not far and easy to locate and use. Again, it's a great location. Right in the middle of the park and made seeing everything easier because of the shorter drives. I would recommend everyone to stay here!

The title says it all. The price of the 2 bed frontier cabin is very fair considering it is in the park. I researched accommodations extensively and maybe you will do better price wise with the Roosevelt rustic cabins or a campsite. The location allowed us to see quite a bit of the mid, northern and eastern parts of the park in two days but we were pre-dawn risers and stayed out exploring & hiking until evening to make the most of our time at Yellowstone. The day of arrival prior to checking in here, we were able to spend a lot of time in Hayden Valley, and the Yellowstone Lake and Grand Canyon areas (coming from Grant Village). The highlight was an early morning visit to Lamar Valley for wolf watching the next day! (which took about almost an hour from the cabin.) There was construction going on which would have slowed us down a lot but luckily they're off on Sundays so I would consider that when planning a drive to that area. We were able to have breakfast at the Roosevelt Lodge after Lamar and then head up to Mammoth all in the same day from here. There are many nice trails close by for easy hiking when you get back to the canyon area. A nice pretty one was the Cascade trail to Cascade lake.
These are very basic accommodations but met our needs. The beds were comfy, the propane heater warmed the room quickly in the a.m. The shower was microscopic & claustrophobic but got the job done. Picnic tables would have been nice around the cabins and a coffee maker would have been great too. Keep that in mind if you like to head out early as the general stores don't open till 7. We returned to find the cabin nicely tidied and clean. The walls are thin and you could hear many of our neighbor's activities, but noise was not that big of a deal as were lucky to have some very nice older European people in the adjoining cabins. (On a side note, one of the perks of visiting Yellowstone is meeting some really neat people from different countries! Love the diversity...) There were some younger people partying and being pretty rowdy a few cabins down from us when we came back in the evening, but we were so tired we didn't notice them much. I think our stay here allowed us to accomplish a lot and make the most of the time we had.

Room Tip: You get what you get when you reserve a room here! Reserved the cabin nine months in advance.

Canyon Village was great! We were able to wash our laundry in the Camp Ground facility, eat two meals (dinner when we arrived and breakfast when we left), mail post cards in the Post Office and get information at the Tourist Center.
The cabin was minimal but comfortable. It would have been nice to have at least radio service to block out neighbor noise or cover your own. The heater was reliable and welcomed - it got down to 42 that morning. The shower was tiny.
Parking is right next to the cabin so unloading and loading is much more pleasant than at the Inn... cheaper too. We checked in, drove a few hundred feet to the cabin site, unloaded and drove a few more hundred feet to wash laundry at the Camp Ground facility. Then had dinner and retired for the evening. We were then ready for another day of wonder!
Our two days at Yellowstone only scratched the surface of what could have been experienced.
WOW and WOW; even in the light rain, we were not disappointed in the Park.

Room Tip: We understand this will be the last year for the Canyon Cabins. They will be replaced with another L...

My trip to Yellowstone was fantastic and my stay at Canyon Lodge was comfortable. The cabins are minimalist cabins - you have a bed, bathroom and chair. Dont expect anymore than this - oh and there is a desk. I stayed in a cabin that was linked to 5 other cabins - as a result you could here just about anything from your next door neighbor. The walls in the room were made of painted ply wood. Keep in mind that you dont come to Yellowstone to stay in your room, so all-in-all the minamilist accomodations of the Canyon Lodge cabins were perfect for me. The room was clean and comforatbale and when it got cold at night, we turned on a heater that was in the room. When we come back to Yellowstone we will stay at the Canyon Lodge again. If you plan on making a trip to the Tetons - either the Lake lodge or Canyon Lodge are the ideal accomodation as its about 1 hour away from these locations.

Very close to lamar and hayden valleys and great spots for wildlife viewing nearby. Accomodations are beautiful and spacious cabins in the midst of the forests. Lots of food options and gift shop nearby. General store has good deals on t shirts and other souvenirs.
