We spent three nights in a cabin. The location is great for seeing the canyon area. We thoroughly enjoyed being able to go out to some of the overlooks at sunset. The color change on the rocks was lovely. The cabin was small and basic. Unfortunately, the setting is rather sad as is the building itself. There was no coffee maker in the room. The room was not ready by our 4 check-in time. In fact, it was at least 45 minutes beyond that before we could get into the room. There is nowhere to eat outside. We had packed some food the first day with the assumption there would be somewhere to eat outside. Not so.The eateries on site are okay. Nothing at all to brag about. The cafeteria was our least favorite. All in all, no regrets because staying here put us in the park so that we didn't have to drive as much. Having gone to West Yellowstone, I didn't see much there that I think would likely have been much better.

We stayed in a cabin which was basic, but clean and cosy and had the advantage of being located in Yellowstone NP and offering good value compared to other park lodgings. No tea/coffee making or cooking in the room meant you had to use the canyon village dining facilities which were just about OK, but somewhat overpriced. We tried the Deli for lunch instead of the self service 'canteen' type food in the Cafe. A couple of cheese rolls and 2 small bottles of juice and almost $18 poorer, we wish we hadn't. The restaurant is a nicer experience, but book in advance or be prepared to wait for a table to become available. The main area just felt a little to commercialised for our liking. Easy walk from the cabins through the woods to the Grand canyon of the Yellowstone was a big plus for us. Would I stay again ? The answer is yes quite possibly because of price and location, but I would probably bring a cool box with cold food and drink with me.

We spent 2 nights at the "frontier" cabins. The cabin was funky - something was out of square, was it the heater, the sink, the window or all of the above? The cabin was certainly functional with enough hot water and heat when we needed it, but it is certainly showing its age and definitely needs an update. We went to the dining room our first night and for whatever reason, it was extremely busy. There was nowhere to sit in the waiting area or in their lounge and we found ourselves killing time looking in the gift shop along with a large number of other people waiting for the dining room who couldn't find a chair anywhere. Then, the next morning when we went to breakfast in the cafeteria, there was a huge line-up and we discovered that their computer system was down, leaving the poor staff to calculate bills by hand with the aid of a calculator!

We chose to stay at the cabin because it was well situated to the sites we wanted to see, however, we found the ambiance similar to a suburban strip mall and not very nice for a national park. The staff, however, were very nice and efficient in coping with their situation. Of all the places we stayed in Yellowstone, we would have to say that this was our least favourite.

Where to begin?
A perfunctory check-in - not at all welcoming.
An ugly "cabin" - really more of a boxcar; all the charm of spending the night in a dumpster.
Wall between our "cabin" and the next was paper thin; when the people came in after we had gone to bed and started talking in normal voices, it was as if they were in our room. And when they took a shower - well, you get the picture.
Hot water took forever to warm up; probably as long as taking a shower.
Only 2 double outlets - half filled with a light and clock. Certainly not adequate.
Ugly decor, no style at all. Worn out.
For $100 a night, this was a rip-off.
Yellowstone and the American people deserve better; this is an insult to our 1st national park.

Room Tip: We were in the J1 cluster. unit 7. I don't think there is a good "cabin" in this faci...

My unit was clean, everything worked, and the price was remarkably fair (especially compared to the cabin I stayed at the night before in Grand Teton National Park). Oddly, the "bathroom" sink/mirror is in the main part of the unit, around the corner and about 20 feet from the bathroom door. The cabins are nothing to look at on the outside, very institutional actually; and there's nothing to see from the cabin (except trees, underbrush, and other cabins). The only real drawback is there's no place for grilling or campfires in the cabin area; in fact, no where to even sit outside and enjoy the fresh mountain air. I did have trouble finding the Registration Building, but that was due to a lot of construction in the parking lot (which should be done before they reopen next season). I'd definitely stay here again if I ever have the chance to return to Yellowstone.

We reserved a Frontier cabin for two nights in June and loved it! I don't understand the negative reviews for these cabins. People, they're called Frontier cabins for a reason so do your homework before staying here if you don't want rustic accommodations. We were in the F section, a cluster of four units a few minutes from the amenities but very peaceful. We saw elk (with a baby) in the morning and a bison a few feet from our car. The room was large and spotless. OK, it's a little basic but that's what makes it adventurous. When do you get to see a sink next to your bed? And those cute bear soaps!!! The shower is minuscule but it serves the purpose. The only thing we didn't appreciate is that housekeeping had forgotten to turn down the heat (it gets pretty cold during the night) so it was 90 degrees when we walked into the room. Since there's no A/C, we opened all the windows, put on the fan, and left for a few hours. Fortunately, when we came back around 9:00 p.m., it was fine. We would definitely stay here again.

We spent our 36th wedding anniversary in Yellowstone Aug. 2013. Our four days in a Queen cabin in Canyon Village was wonderful!. The staff at registration were very professional and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. I made three seperate reservations for the Queen cabin by following trip advisor recommendations to keep checking for cancellations. When I told the staff they made sure we were in the same cabin for our entire stay and did not have to move. In our conversation at check-in, we told them it was our first visit and that we were going to celebrate our anniversay. Shortly after entering our cabin a messenger brought a beautiful box of Chocolate Huckleberry Cordials with a lovely hand-written note congratuling us on our anniversary and thanking us for staying with them. The food at the Canyon facilities was great all times of the day, and the convenience of the general store and sporting goods store was greatly appreciated. I would definitely recommend staying at this location, it is centrally located in the park and makes day trips to all other parts of the park very easy.
