“Paying for the location.”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

We could not fault the cleansiness and decor of the room, or of the 'house block' it was in. The beds were comfortable and it was quiet. We liked the lakeside restaurant that was just a few minutes walk away and it felt a lot less commercialised than Canyon lodge had. The room is on the small side and you are probably paying double for it's location, but isn't that to be expected ? You pay over the odds in the nearest towns to the park which can leave you a long[ish] drive during the peak morning traffic heading in. The park is huge and getting around can be slow, especially with the wildlife jams on the roads that are common. Actually being in the park when you wake is worth the premium in my opinion, although West Yellowstone is a lively town and good alternative. During our stay we stayed in town and Canyon Lodge as well as Grant village and it worked well for us. On a multi day visit it's worth considering using more than one location as a base and keep on the move, rather than driving back and forth over the large distances you need to cover to explore the park fully. All in all it was a pleasant stay and I would certainly recommend it and return again.

We visited back in September 2012, but I didn't get around to reviewing the property. First...Yellowstone is amazing, no matter where you go, you will be blown away by the scenery and the wildlife. Getting from point A to point B within the park takes hours. The lodge itself would get 2 stars, however due to the location it gets an extra star. Essentially you are paying for a place to sleep, a very expensive place at that. The beds are tiny (my wife and I slept apart) and the room is more like a dorm. It was clean, which is a plus considering that some of the other properties have mice problems. I am not eager to stay at this place again, but would do so if needed due to the location.

Room Tip: Book early

Lodging in popular but remote places like Yellowstone are always expensive, so is this place.
We stayed for one night in the Grand Village Lodge and liked it.

It's a basic place with not much else than a room and bed, both were very good.
The buildings are situated in a forest area close to the lake. (one minute walk)
You can spot deer on a regular basis near the buildings.

Is this worth the money?
Definitly yes!

It's hard to decide how to rate accommodations in US national parks. Many of them are 1940s crummy by design. Grant Village is newer than that, but it's pretty basic. It is clean and the bed is comfortable. However unless you stay at a really high end lodge, and I'm not sure there are any in Yellowstone, you can't go wrong with Grant Village. It's no better or worse than the other places I've stayed there. There is no elevator and the parking lot is not exactly adjacent to the building entrances. If that's an issue for you, there are places in Yellowstone where you can park right next to your vintage cabin.

Stayed here 2 nights on a escorted tour. Luckely enough our rooms where the closest to the restaurant and store. I was just by myself and had a room with 2 double beds in. For me, space enough. But I can imagine that if you're here with 4 grown ups that it feels very small.
At night very cold in the room, and they have no real duvet. I didn't try to put on the heating, because I was to sleepy to see how it worked.
There went something wrong with the suitecase delivery from our group. But staff did their best to solve the problem as quick as possible.
In the morning there where some deer close to our rooms.
Something that was really noticeable, was how clean the carpet was in the room. I can imagine that in Yellowstone NP people are outside a lot, on a hike etc and come in with dirty shoes, but as said: VERY clean carpet!
I saw some of the other hotels in Yellowstone (Lake Lodge and Old Faithfull Inn), and although I would choose one of those myself, Grant Village Lodge gives you everything you need in a NP.

Stayed in "A" Lodge and was surprised how comfortable it was for the price. I had a king-sized bed, and the mattress was exceptionally comfortable. Even though the room showed its age, it was clean and had all the amenities of the higher priced lodges in the park. Two restaurants, one casual and the other finer dining, were within an easy 10-minute walk from the lodge. Easy access to Old Faithful area and southern loop of Yellowstone.

Room Tip: I didn't see an elevator, so choose ground floor if you have trouble with steps.

Rooms were clean. However, these are the tiniest rooms I have ever seen. No closet/ microwave/ fridge in the room either. Moreover, absolutely no view of the lake from your room ! I do not see any reason to spend 200$/ night for this room just because I am staying inside the park ! Also, a note of caution: You are bound to eat in their restaurant. There is no other place around. The restaurant is pretty expensive, close to 30$/ person for lunch/ dinner. So, that also adds up to your expense. I would recommend staying at Gardiner/ West Yellowstone.
