Our stay at Grant Lodge was more than we expected. Be aware this is an older facility but has been maintained very well. We were within walking distance of restaurants and a stroll by the lake. The staff was extremely helpful and the cancelation policy exception when we had to leave earlier than expected.....no questions, no fees! Book months early these National Park Lodges fill up fast!

We stayed here for two nights as part of a group tour and were told reservations had to be made at least six months in advance for this hotel. True, the location is excellent: just a short walk to Yellowstone Lake and maybe 15 minutes by car to Old Faithful. I'm told all hotels in Yellowstone are operated by the same concessionaire - and they're literally milking the situation for all it's worth. It's really a shame how tourists are being gauged for such mediocrity and mismanagement. The hotel itself has the feel of a well-worn dorm room from my college days - not exactly a compliment. The buildings, scattered in the woods look appealing for outside - but once you've ventured in you realize how awful it truly is. Then, to make matters worse, there are clearly management issues. A couple in our group had left a generous gratuity for the maid. When this couple needed to return to the room a few minutes later to retrieve a hat they found the gratuity had been taken by the young men who enter the rooms to take away the soiled towels - and not going to the worthy intended recipient. This kind of unfortunate situation was in evidence elsewhere at this lodge showing that whoever is in charge is not doing their job.

Do not waste your money staying here, sleeping in your car would be a better option. The accommodation is in oversized wooden "huts", the walls and floors are so thin you can hear a pin drop. The bed linen is so thin, like the walls, and it barely fits the double beds (yes double!) there is no ac in the room although a fan was provided. No Tv either, and furniture from the 1960's I think. The only positive thing was that the shower worked and was hot.

The only reason people book here is because there is little other choice. Yellowstone National Park needs to introduce a little competition to give the owners of all the accommodation something to think about, until then they will continue to charge rip off prices for outdated and poor quality rooms.

The had to be the worst place I have ever stayed in. To be a National Park place it looked like the Beverly Hillbilles lived here. The carpeting in the hallways and rooms are the cheapest they could find. The bathrooms were so outdated. The lamps were glued to the tables. They will provide to you a plug in fan because there is no a/c. Be prepared to walk a bit to get to the places to eat. The food was really good and that was it..

Oh and they will post signs on the doors as you exit to watch out for moose and elk near the lodge and do not approach

Room Tip: Go stay at the big lodge near Old Faithful...

Green Features: Not Sure, nothing was posted anywhere. I'm sure they do since it is a national landmark area

We stayed three nights at Grant, coming up from Jackson/GTNP. Our room and the hotel were perfectly clean and fine, plus we had a nice view of a strand of trees outside our window. No, it's not fancy, and to be honest, Grant wasn't our first choice of lodging but we couldn't get three nights in a row elsewhere. We walked to and ate at both restaurants on-site and were happy with our meals from each (good food with no waiting, even in July!).

Contrary to some opinions, I thought the location was great -- not too far from the Old Faithful area, or the Lake area -- with West Thumb Geyser Basin right there. The ride to the other areas is pretty anyway and gave us a chance to view more wildlife anyway! I wouldn't want to tour Lamar Valley or Mammoth from Grant, but for visiting the Southern part of the park, it was convenient.

I'd certainly stay at Grant again. Was this a five star hotel? No way. Could there be more charm in the buildings/rooms? Well, yes. Were we completely satisfied with our stay? Yup!

P.S. On a separate note -- on the afternoon we drove up from Jackson, there was a tour bus accident on the only road from GTNP into Yellowstone. We wound up "stuck" in Colter Bay for several hours longer than expected. At one point we were able to call Grant and they knew about the accident and were they assured us that we would not be charged for the night in case we weren't able to get up there that night. The road was reopened around 9:15 pm, and we joined a caravan of cars headed north. By the time I got to Grant I was ready to give it five-stars just because I was so grateful we weren't spending the night in a parking lot at Colter Bay! ;-)

My wife and I stayed here during a motorcycle trip through Yellowstone. We picked this hotel because it was on our way to the South Entrance as we left for the Grand Tetons. This hotel is in serious need of an update and we could see beginning signs of a remodel. The buildings reminded me of college dorms (and not the new fancy ones) and there was not an elevator to get to the 2nd floor. If you're carrying a lot of luggage, make sure you are on the first floor!

The best thing going for this hotel is it's fairly central location. But as it was too expensive for a basic room (booked in January), I would pick other lodging when coming back to Yellowstone.

The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. The restaurant at the hotel was overprice for what we got.

Stayed here on July 12

We stayed here in July and booked two rooms in early February. There are only several hotels and lodges in Yellowstone and thousands of people in the summer season, so you take what you can get. Grant Village Lodges were small with two double beds, a dresser, and a desk. The bathroom was very small, especially the shower, but at least we had a private bath (some lodges do not). There was no air conditioner but I have to say, we did not need it because it was so cool at night. There also is no television, but you are so exhausted from driving around and looking at the magnificent park, that you do not miss it. For the price, you do not get much, but it was comfortable and convenient.
