“Central, Clean Stay”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

We were here in July 2013 and stayed 2 nights at the Old Faithful Lodge and 3 nights at Dunraven Lodge. Dunraven was central and clean. No wifi, TV or AC but we didn't need any of them (the teenagers missed their wifi but survived). It definitely looked like the best choice in the park - newer and clean. I wish it included a refrigerator so we could have bfast in our rooms but it didn't. We enjoyed seeing the bison right outside our window and hearing the coyotes at night. We did the canyon horseback ride and although it was only walking nose to tail it was informative and fun. We also took a ride up to Roosevelt for the BBQ chuckwagon ride which was really fun! There was a huge lightning storm but we survived. I heard if they stopped it for every thunder storm in the summer it would never go out. We stopped at tower falls along the way to Roosevelt. We took morning rides into Hayden Valley to check out wildlife. It was great trip - we enjoyed both our choices of hotels; the Dunraven Lodge (very central location and you could hit all the key areas from here) and the Old Faithful Inn. (loved the classic, old Inn. We spent evenings in the lobby listening to the piano player and playing cards and went out on the deck to watch Old Faithful).

We stayed, family of 4, for 3 nights at the Dunraven Lodge in a 1st floor room. Our room had two comfortable beds with a good sized bathroom. I’m not sure how anyone could complain about this place. Its right around the corner from the visitor’s center, general store and restaurants, but you’re secluded enough that there isn’t a lot of hustle bustle around you. The parking lot is right outside the door so it was easy to unload. The lodge has an ice machine that we used to fill up our coolers. We had an amazing time in Yellowstone and one of our fondest memories will be the two bison that were grazing right outside our window while staying at Dunraven Lodge. We stayed at two other locations in the park; Old Faithful Inn and Roosevelt. Roosvelt was our favorite and Dunraven was a close second.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor

Stayed 2 nights in lodge. Very nice and convenient to everything. Room we stayed in was on top floor and a typical hotel room. Nothing fancy a comfortable bed and practical bathroom. Not five star but it does not matter after all who wants to spend a lot of time in a hotel room when visiting YNP! I recommend the lodge over the cabins, cabins looked old from outside. Do not know what inside of cabins looked like. Would definitely stay in same room again.

A great lodge in an extremely peaceful area. Just some buffalos in the neighborhoods. Nice rooms : spacious, good beds, nice bathroom, spotless.

Bad approach for wifi : $25 for 3 days for a very slow connection, and available only in the restaurant building (at 0.5 mile of the Lodge).

I chose this place based on its good reviews. I knew my family wouldn't be happy with the classic national park cabin in the woods. Very satisfied with its cleanliness and amenities. Great location, convenient Village area for shopping and eating nearby. No a/c, but the opened windows sufficed. Air was cool at night. Not crowded like Old Faithful area. I think it's more "central" to most areas in the park. The drive to Old Faithful area was the longest drive for us. I think if you are staying in the Old Faithful area, most of your drives to everywhere else in the park will be a long one. Front desk and activities staff were very friendly and helpful. Canyon Corral horseback ride was good. Only negative is double sized beds.

Room Tip: Dunraven is newer than Cascade.

I just returned from my fourth visit to Yellowstone National Park. Each time I have stayed at the Dunraven Lodge in the Canyon area of Yellowstone. Every time I go, I continue to be delighted by this property. To begin, you need to remember you are in a National Park and lodging is not a deluxe hotel. That being said, Dunraven has all the features you need to enjoy your time in this magnificent setting. The room contains a nice, comfortable bed, table and chairs and a very clean bathroom with shower. There is no TV, WiFi or air conditioning. That is what adds to the charm. I was with a group of people on this tour. Because of the lack of electronic capabilities, it allowed us to do something unique...Talk. We sat on the porch at night and visited while watching the stars. Members of our group saw a bison nearby. In the morning, a group of us walked to the Canyon which is only about 1 1/2 miles roundtrip. Great walk and wonderful views. We had breakfast and dinner each night at the lodge. The meals were very good. I would have rated this excellent but it took a bit to check in and the wait staff at times for meals could be a little slow. But overall, a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of Yellowstone.

My wife and I stayed in the Dunraven Lodge for three days in early August, 2013. This lodge is by far the best place to stay in the Canyon Area. Our room consisted of two double beds with a private bath. The bath/tub combo and toilet were in a separate room and the sink was in the main room. Additional furnishings included a table and chairs and a sort of vanity. There was a closet area but very few drawers for storing clothes. I believe that all of the rooms in the lodge are configured in the same manner.

The Dunraven Lodge is some distance from the center of Canyon Village so you need to drive to the restaurants, the visitors’ center, and shops.

Staying at Canyon provides easy access to the Roosevelt-Tower area, the Lamar Valley, and Mammoth Hot Springs. We have visited in the Yellowstone area twice before. On these previous trips we stayed in the Jackson area and were unable to enjoy the attractions of the north-side of Yellowstone because of the lengthy drive from our lodgings. Our stay at Canyon was well worth it!

By the way, the ranger-led hikes on the South Rim were fabulous! Try to take one.
