“Lake hotel Annex Wing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stayed at the Annex wing which is not the mail hotel.

pros: quiet, two beds, great location,
Cons: dirty, no elevator

The main hotel is really beautiful and modern. The lake view is truly wonderful.

This area of Lake Yellowstone in the heart of our nation's first National Park should always be on the top of everyone's list for the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, fishing in the lake or hiking the many trails that are better than a thousand miles of hiking, in addition to Old Faithful plus the many wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Dining in the Lake Yellowstone Hotel is a very special adventure in food all prepared to delight a person's taste and appetite with outstanding service.
Accommodations can be rooms in the hotel or rustic cabins, and the camp grounds at various locations about the park. Rest assured that a good length of time is allowed for this park that will thrill and make life long memories in the lives of whole families being really brought together in this beautiful wilderness that is so peacefully abounding in wild life.
Having been blessed with three different trips to Yellowstone National Park I discovered that there is so much to see and experience in the park that I have yet to see it all after three years. One location in the park is the only place along the whole Continental Divide where water goes both to the west, and to the east from the source of it's beginning. What really amazed me was how I changed being away from all the noise of the metropolitan areas to the peaceful quietness that affects a persons spirit and soul to become in tune with the elements God Created about us with a greater sensitivity that is awesome. I still wonder what the first white man thought that entered this area which became our First National Park for all people to enjoy. A must in my opinion for every family or person to be always remembered in a very, very special way in our heart.

Room Tip: The choice has to be individual as this area is going back in time without many of the comforts of p...

A grand hotel, built and expanded in a time (1890s -1920s) when only those with real wealth could afford to travel. I could envision the steam ship bringing me from West Thumb Geyser Basin to the hotel back at the turn of the century. This is a little bit of 'luxury' in the 'wilderness'.

A full service bar (GREAT) with a large parlor overlooking the lake. A solid kitchen and full service restaurant which is impressive considering that are completely shut down from fall until early June. Imagine good service and quality from a place that must gather new staff and teams annually!

The rooms were great. We stayed in two large lake view rooms right above the main lobby area. They were expansive, clean and well appointed. Don't mistake this description as a comparison to high end 4 star city hotels. No TV, No internet (I think?). Socializing in the main parlor with some evening drinks is still encouraged! Great live music in the parlor from 6 pm for a few hours.

I would encourage a stop for a few nights at this classic hotel, and then a few night roughing it in the wilderness or one of the less cultivated lodgings throughout the park.

We spent 5 nights in the Lake Hotel annex, adjacent to the main hotel. We loved it. It was very comfortable in every way. We walked across the road to Lake Yellowstone and watched the sunset on the lake, which at the end of May was still partly frozen. The lake area is our favorite area in Yellowstone. We have visited Yellowstone eight times now, and plan to return every year or so. We intend to stay in this hotel each time.

I stayed in one of the Cabins because the Hotel part was booked out many months in advance, The Cabin was nice and cosy, Very Clean and had all that you would require for your stay and just minutes walk away from Yellowstone Lake. Plus if you dont want to eat in the Hotel which was a bit expensive they have a cheap eating place around 5 minute walk away which serves great meals.

Tips If you want to stay in the Hotel book 6 months or more in advance, To me the Cabin was just like a hotel room but without a T.V. but you are not there to watch T.V. I highly recommend staying in either a Cabin or in the Hotel.

Also if you want to use WiFi or internet you would require a very good Internet provider because you would be lucky to get any signal while in Yellowstone which to me is a good thing !!

Tv not important but travelling with kids, may well be the most important thing in their lives. As a couple we tend to have the odd Skype chat with the kids around the world; and we did not have this option when returning to the hotel after a long busy day in The Park. Room was a little small. Shower fine. Noise heard a little from upstairs.... Plumbing mainly. Parking easy compared with some parks we have visited and stayed in park lodgings. Not bad value for money. Food limited choice. No breakfast with our deal. So its an extra.

Only heard about the Brazilian thrashing via another walker in the park, so out of touch with the world. Perhaps a change of management may consider internet wifi in the future.

Room Tip: Just wear yourselves out so room quality is insignificant

We stayed in the newly renovated East Wing. Rooms were very clean and nicely decorated, but walls were thin (we could often hear neighboring rooms) and bathroom was cramped. Lake is an odd place to stay, since main attractions are closer to Canyon or Old Faithful. Hotel is not as charming as Old Faithful Lodge or the flagship hotels in other western national parks - common area is big and airy but does not feel cozy and unlike Ahwanee, El Tovar, or Old Faithful, doesn't really evoke the past at all. Service is friendly and enthusiastic. Hard to get reservations at a decent hour at the restaurant (though dinner at 9 isn't bad when you're hiking all day, given driving distances). No telephones or wifi (Old Faithful at least has wifi)

Room Tip: When we were there, the Lake view was $20 a night more, and the non-Lake view was of muddy tire trac...
