I loved everything about this area and learned much about the action of the Excelsior pool that pours 4,000 gallons a minute of hot water into the Firefighter river making it warm and inviting to swim.

So many geysers and thermal features. Very nice photo opportunities. This also comes with the Grand Prismatic Spring.

There are several worth while thermal features at this stop as well as some nice photo opportunities. Grand Prismatic is of course the big show but the Opal Pool and Excelsior geyser are both very interesting and big too. Take at least an hour here.

Nice, short boardwalk around huge pools and small geysers. It was a pleasant surprise to see the run-off from the pools going into the river below. Grand Prismatic Spring and Excelsior Crater are not to be missed on this walk. Beautiful!

This was our first stop and what a way to start the trip. There are some amazing hot springs here. One you get so close you can see down the funnel and watch the bubbles coming up. There is also a huge hole that is just blowing steam out like a train. I do not remember the name for it, but it was so cool. It reminded me of a pressure valve letting off steam.

The biggest tip I can give is that you need to get there early in the morning. This one gets crowded because it is the first geyser and hot spring area coming from West Yellowstone. Get there around 8am or earlier and parking will be much easier and less folks. Even when it is packed it still is fine though as you can get around and see everything just fine. This is the one place you can see 3 types of wonders in one spot. Worth the stop hands down!
