We (two families) stayed at the Alpenglow Chalet for 4 nights in August 2009. The property was exactly as described on the website. The beds in in the 3 bedrooms were fine, the sofabed in the den a little less comfortable. The house has an extremely well equipped kitchen (with labels on the drawers so everything is easy to find), and a practically new washer and dryer, everything in good working order. All 3 bathrooms were spotless.
The weather was extremely hot - into the high 90s in Yosemite Valley, and the house did heat up while we were out during the day. But it was very easy to let the evening air cool the house down before we went to sleep.
Location: The owners gave very good directions. The house is rather secluded and it's important to bring food because there's absolutely no place to get anything. (That's a tradeoff we gladly made for peace and quiet - There were so many people in the park, both in Yosemite Valley and up at Tuolumne Meadows.) The last bit of road is uphill and unpaved, and therefore dusty in August. It might be a problem in rainy/snowy weather.

Clouds Rest Cabin was better than we imagined. The place is immaculately clean and the owner, Noreen, has thought of absolutely EVERYTHING you could ever need in a home away from home. We were totally surprised and delighted!

The cabin is located in Foresta which is about a 20 minute drive from Yosemite Valley. Although the drive can be tedious after a long day, we actually really liked the location because it was out of the Valley and you could actually get some silence - real peace and quiet! The stars make for a fantastic view at night.

We booked for four nights but were only able to stay two nights - due to a huge wildfire in the park the roads were closed and we could not access the cabin. Noreen was fantastic and helped us find alternative accomodation (even while she was being evacuated herself!). We were still able to enjoy Yosemite (absolutely stunning).

Amazingly, while the fire was getting worse and more road closures were occurring, Noreen was able to somehow get back into the area with a fire crew and pack up our belongings for us and bring them to our other accomodation. We couldn't believe the huge effort she went to for us, especially considering how difficult and dangerous it would have been. We were so appreciative - needless to say we've never had better customer service than that!

My comments on Clouds Rest Cabin are all positive. We would definitely recommend this place to others. The fire has been completely put out and I understand that Foresta is still green. Like I said, the best view is the stars so it wouldn't have mattered anyway if the area was affected by fire!

In summary - would be go back? ABSOLUTELY!

El Capitan View is a perfect holiday home for a group of 4-6 people. It is spacious and has lots of self-catering facilities, including a gas BBQ and lovely outside deck area. It is located in a very quiet, peaceful and scenic area with easy access to all the National Park has to offer.

I would definitely recommend this house. It is a very luxurious alternative to camping and has lots to keep guests entertained with board games, books and DVDs in the evenings.

We stayed in Alpenglow house in Foresta in Yosemite. This was our third trip to Yosemite and certainly not the last. The house was perfect for what has become fours groups in our family with husbands, wife and kids. We lacked for nothing and the ease of getting around Yosemite was relaxing. If you want something other than the camping experience and don't like hotels this area is great.

We rented Clouds Rest from May 29 until June 6th. It was perfect for 2 people! Noreen and Mark have done a wonderful job. This is the best equipped home I have ever rented anywhere! They thought of everything! Their website does NOT do it justice! She had Pam, olive oil, vegetable oil, Emeril's spices, etc for cooking. Then they had a small collapsible cooler you could borrow for your daily outings. Oh, and backpacks in the closet! Complete with water bottles and small first aid kit! Plus, umbrellas just in case (and we did need them)! They did upgrade to a king size log bed...very very comfortable. Toiletries provided...yes, shampoo and conditioner, soap, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins. I couldn't believe it! I will definitely return to Clouds Rest. In fact, we mapped out the locations of nearby VRBO properties so if we return with friends, they will have a place to stay within walking distance. Oh, the sunrise over El Cap and Half Dome from that bed...well just look at the pictures.
