We stayed in the Yosemite West High Sierra Bed and Breakfast for 4 nights in June 2012. The B & B is located about 25 minutes from the Valley but provides a perfect base for exploring the Yosemite. With careful planning i.e. eating before returning to the B&B, stocking up in advance on hiking supplies etc the distance from the valley is no problem.

Our host Karen was very helpful in planning our daily hikes and we would not of decided to hike Cloud's Rest without her strong recommendation. This turned out to be our favourite hike in Yosemite and Karen's knowledge and expertise meant she provided us with tailored information based around our interests. We had a lot of early starts so for the most part missed the cooked breakfast, the one day we were there it was fantastic. However there was plenty of cereals, juice and tea and coffee that you could help yourself too if you were leaving early.

There was a communal fridge to store foodstuffs, although we only used it for left over pizza and wine. The view from the B&B was great and we were lucky to see some great sunsets from the balcony.

Our room and bathroom were a good size and very clean. Each room is equipped with back-packs and maps in case you don't have them. The communal balcony and sitting rooms were great for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening time.

Would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone visiting Yosemite and hope to visit again.

We had a 10 day stay in June 2012 and it was perfect. If you want a "base camp" for seeing all of Yosemite yet wish to have a luxury setting without the hassel of crowds, this is the spot for you. Karen's daily breakfasts were delicious and filling so that only two meals were needed for whatever activity you plan. Her advise on hiking trails, sites to visit regardless of the time you have to spend in the park, places to eat "off the beaten path", and esp the meticulously maintained decor and cleanliness was unmatched by other B&B's we,ve stayed at. Watching sunsets from the balcony with a glass of wine always ended a busy day regardless of the activity planned. We stayed in the largest suite and the dollars spent were worth it. We had our own frig which helped with the cost of food although there is a "community" frig available to all who stay there. We esp wished to see Mono Lake which is on the far East side of Yosemite....yet were easily able to travel there and back in one day's time even though the B&B is on the far West side of the park. This was a great place for the dollars spent.

Room Tip: Largest suite is in the rear of the B&B and has its own entrance and frig. None of the rooms look out onto the West/sunset area. You have to go to the common area (where bkfast is served daily) to see sunsets and walk out onto the balcony setting. The largest suite looks up onto a mountain hill/forest area but is not a "view of the mountains". The only panoramic view of the mountains is from the balcony setting. Entire area is very quiet and peaceful.

Although this B&B is 25-30 minutes from any restaurant, if you plan your stay well, that won't be a problem. Often times we ate a late lunch and bought some cheese, crackers, wine and other goodies that we shared with the other guests on the deck in the evening. Only negative I would say is that the linens and towels could be updated.

Room Tip: We had the lower level bedroom that was just remodeled.

My husband and I stayed for three nights.

The location of the B and B is wonderful. You are surrounded by trees and when you look out from the balcony at the top of the property it gives you a feeling that you are in a tree house.

There are tea and coffee making facilities in the communal lounge, soft drinks and biscuits. The breakfasts were good. Make sure that you eat before getting to the B and B as there is nothing local that you can walk to and the nearest restaurant is about 30 minutes drive away. This is not surprising as you are staying in a park.

The rooms were spotless and even had a rucksack in the wardrobe to use when you are walking together with a lots laminated maps for the local area.

Karen who owns the B and B was brilliant at advising us where to walk, things to do and where to eat and this certainly helped us have a wonderful time in Yosemite. She even gave us water bottles as we did not have enough.

We would recommend a stay here to anyone.

Just returned from three days at the High Sierra B&B; it's a wonderful find. It is a bit outside town and you do have to be careful on the winding roads, but we had no problem locating it even in the dark using Karen's directions. Note that the 88 steps will be illuminated as you climb them, so even if they seem a bit dark, just start climbing and you'll be fine (and unless you have really heavy luggage, not even all that winded). The place is super clean and has a very nice and welcoming kitchen area where you have breakfast in the a.m., tea/coffee/drinks/cookies at any time, and can store a few picnic items in the fridge (which was VERY helpful to us). Karen is a wonderful host and I would reiterate what many other reviewers have noted - she is basically your own private concierge and has many excellent recommendations, which she'll tailor to your interests and travel plans. I hope we make it back to Yosemite someday and are still able to get a reservation here - my guess is that it will only grow in popularity!
