We finally managed to get reservations mid-week, mid-August, because we didn't think about traveling to Yosemite until late spring. Plan earlier if you can! We had decided to make it a real adventure and stay at the acclaimed Ahwahee, and we weren't disappointed. From the time we pulled up to check in and avail ourselves of the valet and bell service to the time we checked out, using the same services, we felt really appreciated and spoiled. The service was outstanding, whether it was valet, bell, reception, housekeeping, or restaurant staff. Any time we had a question or needed something, they were always happy to help. We even took the time to speak to the manager on departing because we were so pleased. The hotel is a well-kept historic resort and our king classic room was very nice, with a gorgeous view of some of the Yosemite peaks.. Be prepared to pay a premium price for the experience. We made reservations for both breakfast and dinner for the three days of our stay, and we highly recommend that you do that, even before arriving if you can. You can always cancel later, but those with reservations are guaranteed a table and we also felt we received better service than those without reservations. We enjoyed relaxing in the great lounge during the afternoon tea from 4-5. Take the time to walk through the hotel and grounds in between venturing out for hiking and sightseeing. They're beautiful and interesting.

Room Tip: The higher, the better.

We spent two days in this scenic central place of Yosemite, expensive but certainly enjoying the location both to start hikes around or drink a beer at the bar or take 5 minutes to work in the lounge !

You won't get much bang for your buck at this incredibly overpriced hotel. The rooms are small, not soundproofed, and despite the $500/night price tag, there isn't even a minibar in the room and no coffee maker either. I had heard that eating in the restaurant was a remarkable experience, so we made reservations for a Saturday night. The restaurant itself is just spectacular and if I could have eaten it I would have given it a 5 star rating. I ordered salmon and was absolutely stunned that unseasoned, overdone salmon would be served with barbecue sauce on it. After being assured that the bottled beer (also overpriced) was ice cold, it arrived to me warm. So sadly I must give the restaurant 1/2 star. Anyway, the hotel itself is a grand old hotel located in a spectacular setting. For this reason alone just visiting the hotel would be worth your time. Absolutely worth seeing and possibly enjoying an ice cream or one of the yummy truffles that you can buy in the Sweet Shop. Valet parking is free and very prompt. Sadly I cannot recommend staying here, but I think visiting this remarkable historic property would be worth your time and effort.

The Ahwahnee is the mother of all Yosemite hotels & lodges. The only place where you dont know if you are in the 21st or 19th century. The hotel bears the luxury of a past time, and is located at the heart of the park. We had a little problem with the heat and were kindly given a suite by the hotel management. The dining room is a pleasure to look at and to dine at. Very elaborate cuisine, for the connoisseur.

We have stayed at Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone and Many Glacier Lodge in Glacier National Park and they have nothing on The Ahwahnee. What a Grand Ole Dame! Beautiful architecture and design throughout with log and rock exterior, beautiful native American design interior with several large rock fireplaces. Views of the granite walls surrounding the Yosemite Valley and watched a couple of rock climbers from the Ahwahnee patio deck. Enjoyed wonderful pork tacos and Boysenberry Pie at the Ahwahnee bar! Deer and spotted fawns grazed on the lawn and walking distances to hike the Merced River and a nice swimming hole. We were extra blessed to stay in a King Bed Room #419 which was one of the few rooms with air conditioning and a great view as well although no deck. We had a wonderful breakfast buffet in the gorgeous Dining room but cancelled our dinner reservation because we thought having to wear a dress and collared shirt at a lodge in Yosemite after a day in the beautiful outdoors was simply ridiculous and not what you come here for. Too bad because I understand that the chef fixes splendid meals with local ingredients.

Room Tip: Ask for Room#419 which is on the end of the hall and has air conditioning which is a rarity.

We had the pleasure of staying here for 3 nights. From the moment we checked in, until we checked out, we loved it! It is rustic and at the same time elegant. You feel the history as you walk through the building.

We had a great corner room with beautiful views, a lovely tiled bathroom, and a huge walk in closet. It was very clean and well maintained.

Sitting In the Great Room for afternoon tea and listening to the piano music was such a treat. We took the tour of the building and grounds one afternoon and it was very interesting and well worth the time.

Lastly, the staff was very professional, courteous, pleasant and helpful. Really a perfect stay from start to finish!

The location in the forest was an amazing part of the Yosemite experience. In the river near the cottage, you have an amazing view of Half-Dome. The room was neat and spacious with adequate furnishings. Overall, this hotel was a great place to stay and relax in the Yosemite forest.
