We had two comfortable nights here, and found ourselves with star filled nights and days midst Bob's bird feeders and nice trees and plants. Bob was so accommodating that we immediately felt relaxed, assured, and welcome. The space is in a nice, fairly roomy loft above the double garage in the photo, with an easy, well-lit stairway to the private entrance. A nice kitchenette includes a hotplate, skillet, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, refrigerator, etc. The space is air conditioned and a ceiling fan makes it comfy. Sofa, easy chair, coffee table and a small dining table with a couple of chairs and a wardrobe/chest of drawers complete the furnishings. Out the door on the landing are great views, and there is a hot tub and bbq. It is an easy drive to the park and there are lots of restaurants and a good big Vons grocery about 30 minutes away.
Bob was a very hospitable, helpful and knowledgable host. Our room had lots of information on hikes and activities. Yosemite Park was a 45 minute drive but there are great hikes outside of the park that are nearby. We had the room at the top of the house so had a great view from the porch. There was a hot tub to use at the end of a long day. This was a great place to stay if like us you love great views and solitude
Bobs is a fantastic location in an unbelievable part of the world.
Bob could not be more helpful or accommodating, the sort of fella you could imagine being a friend over a beer on a warm evening.
The accommodation is well appointed and very very comfortable, in a secluded yet well positioned location for ease of access to the Park and Lake. As I write this we are all genuinely sad to be leaving Bobs, and it's not even the end of our holiday! (we're off to San Francisco for the five more days)
Bob has laid on some real home comforts such as a gas BBQ, pool in the garden and a great lounge area with great views all round. You can just sit and wonder at the view for hours. Inside is everything you could need, a/c keeping us cool, WiFi and free Netflix keeping the teenager occupied. we really couldn't have asked for more. We are already planning next years trip to include a few days at Bobs.
Thanks Bob, we wish you well, health and prosperity. Best wishes The Payntons
We had such a great stay at the romantic mountain retreat! Bob welcomed us when we got there and made himself available anytime we needed anything. He had a bunch of park guides and maps that we took advantage of. The place was clean, and very comfortable. Stocked with everything we could have needed for our stay. We took advantage of the BBQ grill outside which was very simple to use. Less than an hour drive to Yosemite, beautiful scenic routes. Would definitely stay here again!!
My wife and I visited Bob's place for four nights in June 16. We also stayed a few nights in Tenaya Lodge. Even though it's farther from the park, we much preferred Bob' house. It is clean, quiet, and Bob really makes you feel welcome. The house has everything you need and is a beautifully crafted space. We couldnt have asked for a nicer experience. There is an organic food store a minutes drive away where we did our shopping--very fresh and tasty produce! If you are visiting Yosemite valley be prepared for a drive, but also be ready to come back to Bob's feeling like its your home away from home.
Bob was a gracious host, and he has a beautiful home. We enjoyed staying in the studio apartment portion of it. If you are interested in staying in only one place, while visiting multiple parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia), this is a very convenient location. We enjoyed being able to stay at one location for seven days without having to pack and unpack multiple times.
If you only have one or two days available to spent at Yosemite, we would recommend taking the Discover Yosemite One-Day Tour. Bob provided us with this website and this tour company provided an excellent one day tour package that covered most of the Yosemite Valley highlights, including Glacier Point, as well as providing lunch at the Majestic Yosemite (Ahwahnee) Hotel. This tour allowed us to pick and choose the hikes and locations we wanted to revisit with the amount of time we had remaining to spend at Yosemite. While the views from Glacier Point are really great, the views from the hiking trails (Taft Point and Sentinel Dome) along the road to Glacier Point are exceptional!
With the Mariposa Grove closed until spring 2017, please consider going to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks to see the largest trees in the world. You won't be disappointed.
