This is our third time to Wawona. This time we stayed for 3 nights which was great. We stayed at Washburn cottage room 5, which came with it's own bathroom. Beautiful room and spacious. If you are expecting a normal hotel with all mod cons don't stay here and don't visit Yosemite (no air con, no tv). If you want to escape to a relaxing beautiful period hotel and expect it to be basic then come here. Restaurant is pretty good and a little overpriced (their pot roast is delicious) but you are miles from anywhere and is by far the best in the area. Service is great. Beautiful setting and glad we came back. Hope you have a nice stay.

The hotel is historic and with that said just know what to expect. Not every room comes with a toilet or shower.... It's fine for some people but not others....the showers are in a larger room with just shower curtains..... So just be aware! Service is wonderful. Rooms are clean-there is a closet, sink, and dresser in each one. Also you get to have two adirondack chairs right outside your door on the "porch". Wi-fi sucked- could not join in as Everyone was in the one room where it is only available - but you are in Yosemite for nature. Pool looked inviting but did not get the chance to use. Make sure u bring some snacks if arriving late - like 9:30--- there are NO options available otherwise. In the morning u do get a continental breakfast which was good!

We have just left having spent 3 lovely nights there. We read the reviews before, so knew what to expect and enjoyed it all the more. Yes the rooms are small, there is only wifi in one area, there is no airco, and there are shared bathrooms. The bathrooms are clean, the pool is very welcome after a day in Yosemite, the staff are friendly and helpful. We found the continental breakfast perfectly adequate and enjoyed the old fashioned feel of the place and preferred it to the overly commercial centres.

The Wawona Hotel is reminiscent of much earlier times in our history. You are taken back and can picture folks arriving my stagecoach for their much anticipated Yosemite Adventure from San Francisco and the east coast. You can picture the ladies in their long dresses with petticoats and big hats gracefully descending from the carriages and ascending the wide hotel staircase to the main hotel lobby off of the veranda. We stayed in the Washburn Cottage in Veranda #W0002 which is on the ground floor and the backside of the building which stayed nice and cool. The furnishings were modern but fit the era. Queen bed was set very tall and was very comfortable. There were two adirondack chairs on the veranda deck to relax with a cold drink. In the evening at 5:30pm went to the main hotel and set on the veranda and sipped a mint julep and some appetizers while listening to the very talented pianist before heading to dinner in their charming dining room with the period replica hand painted shades on the ceiling lighting. Favorite dinner was the old fashioned pot roast! The place is charming and quaint and sits next to the Wawona Visitor Center and Pioneer History Center where some of the original homestead cabins have been relocated for your viewing pleasure. Our first morning we caught the 9am Mariposa Grove Shuttle at the Wawona General Store and arrived at the grove just in time to catch the Big Trees Tram at 9:30am which lasts about and hour and a half. I understand this is the last year for the tram which has audio over headphones narrating what you are seeing. Perfection!!! Wouldn't change a thing! Wawona Hotel being at the South Entrance of Yosemite is much quieter with a much slower and relaxed pace.

Room tip: Washburn Cottage, Veranda #W0002 which is in backside of building and has its own private bathroom rather tha. A shared bath. Room stayed nice and cool despite no ac.

Had a great time with family at this hotel. It has large porches and a relaxed atmosphere. Smaller rooms than newer hotels but large porches to hang out on instead. Food was good but more expensive than we usually have with kids. But it was so convenient we had dinner there every night. Good distance to hiking, swimming hole, and mariposa grove. Lots of yard for kids to play on. Old fashioned pool.
