The hotel was about an hour from the Yosemite Valley and because our son lives there, it was not as convenient as we had hoped. It's a beautiful drive to the valley, just a bit too far when driving it twice a day!

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs would be quieter.

My wife and I loved staying at the Wawona Hotel again. It's historic, relaxed, old, yet upscale (some rooms require you to go down the hall for the bathroom, or share one). Nearly the entire staff is very helpful, friendly and guest-focused. The food is great. The building is very old, and some floors aren't level, but that is part of the charm that we enjoy.

Don't come to this hotel expecting Shangri La levels of comfort... It is very basic.

If however you let yourself enjoy the beautiful New England style architecture, which is a perfect complement to the natural beauty of Yosemite, you will really enjoy this hotel.

The rooms are basic, but furnished tastefully with period pieces. The bed is comfy. The shared bathrooms are not an issue, and the showers are surprisingly powerful. The pool is a godsend after a long days hiking in the park. The restaurant is a bit pricey but the food is very decent, as is the beer.

All in all a delightful place to spend a night or two whilst enjoying the natural beauty of Yosemite.

We went along to the weekly barbecue at the Wawona Hotel, in Yosemite as non-residents.
In keeping with the upmarket feel of the hotel, the barbecue does not disappoint.
We enjoyed a really good steak dinner (other main course options are available) with unlimited sides, desserts and soft drinks, sat under the shade of the trees, listening to the live music and making friends with the people, with whom we shared a table.
It was a great afternoon, good value at under £20 per head in comparison with the cost of dining in the hotel and a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

what an extraordinary experience. the vast beauty of yosemite and within the park a most extraordinary hotel with great historical significance. we even had access to the "tank" or the swimming pool heated to 78 degrees!
the rooms were clean and well stocked. we were in the main building with a porch from which to view the golf course and local mule deer.
the staff was knowledgable and friendly, and the pianist; Tom Bopp was memorable.

My husband and I stayed two nights here at the start of our week in Yosemite and one more night at the end. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. On our first arrival at 2pm our room was ready - on the second floor in a 'cottage' - really lovely room, very quiet. Bed and plumbing were both good. On second arrival we had to wait till 5pm for the room (which is the official checkin time so was not unreasonable). Location is great - we got up early on Sunday morning and got a parking space easily at the Mariposa Grove a few miles away (the parking lot fills up with day trippers later). At the end of the week we wanted a one hour hike before traveling and the staff recommended the Meadow Loop right out of the hotel grounds which was perfect. Internet service is limited to one location in the hotel grounds but we could get our fix (cell connectivity in general is poor in the park). The only area that was lacking was food/drink... nothing available between 2pm and 5pm and no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. Short walk to 'general store' which seeks cold drinks, ice cream etc. Food in the restaurant was OK but very pricey (as is standard throughout the park). Would definitely go back for the location and ambience though!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are quieter - floors are old and wooden. Rooms at the back are probably cooler in s...

The hotel is an amazing break after hiking and tons of people at Yosemite. It's very quiet and very quaint. There are no tvs, no phones. We had a room that had old timey style rockers. Enjoyed the view of the birds and the quiet accommodations. We had a room that overlooked the golf course that went across the road. The room had 2 beds. The windows were opened a bit and the night air felt amazing. This is a break from all the hustle and bustle for sure. Sit on the balcony/porch and enjoy a glass of wine and relax.
