Eat outside to avoid feeling cramped (we were able to do so) and don't have real high expectations about the casual service. But the food was excellent and, hey, you're in a resort area, so figure this was just one more summer job for the staff.

This is a smallish (four indoor metal tables, and about twice that many outside)Tex-Mex taco/enchilada eatery. It occupies half of a converted gas station (the other half is a T-shirt/souvenir store); the cooks and servers dress like mechanics and biker chicks, but are polite and attentive. The views are great, since it is one of the last commercial stops before entering Zion National Park and you're surrounded by redrock. But on summer days it's much too hot to eat outside, so if it's before 8 PM and there's more than a few people there, you're out of luck for the limited air-conditioned space inside.

The menu is pretty limited: a few taco plates, salads, and enchilada choices, along with beer, limited wine selections, and sodas are pretty much it. Many selections are vegetarian or meat-optional. The food is mostly good--fresh and tasty, and a bit on the spicy side--but nothing gourmet or really inventive. And what you get would be over-priced by about half if you were to eat it in a city that had real competition. The taco salad, for instance, is similar to what you'd get at Cafe Rio but costs about 4 dollars more (12 dollars compared to 8) and has far less meat--the prawn taco salad I ate there one day was served in a flour tortilla and had lots of greens but only six small prawns.

In short, for a town with relatively few food choices, Whiptail Grill is a good choice for a light, informal meal. But for a real sit-down dinner there are better alternatives available even in Springdale.

Good fresh food and a couple of vegetarian choices. I had a spaghetti squash enchilada that was good. My kids enjoyed the FIRE tacos because they like REALLY SPICY food.

Funky looking place. Wire top tables don't get wiped off very often, nor do the menus. Ikk.

Menu contains basically American-Mexican selections. But the carne asada tacos are the best! Comes with 2 large ones that could be shared. Salsa fresca on them was tasty! Black beans as small side were delish! Salad of baby greens were soft and fresh with very good salad dressing. However, salad should be on a separate plate so thar the corn tortillas of the tacos don't get soggy!

And we're from Arizona and have eaten plenty of all of those things, made by real Mexicans.

Two plates of Carne Asada tacos, appetizer of chips and salsa (different but just OK) and one lemonade, plus tax and tip was $50!!! Expensive lunch for 2 people.

I had to chase down someone to get and pay the bill as the 2 people waiting tables were consumed with cleaning up after a large group of about 20 people who just left.

But we loved the food so much, we'd go back next time we're visiting Zion Nat'l Park.

We visited based on the Trip Advisor reviews. The place in funky - an old converted garage, with outdoor seating. The seating faces the road, so it's noisy. Service was great, but we didn't find the food that good. The fish tacos were chipolte/bbq flavoured, than authentic Mexican ones. My husband had a pizza, which was overloaded with BBQ sauce. The restaurant doesn't serve anything but beer or wine, which was disappointing (we were craving margaritas after a long hike in Zion!). It's an alright spot for a casual meal, but I was disappointed after reading such positive reviews, and would recommend other spots in Springdale over this one.
