“Cute, old school motel”
Reviewed 26 May 2014 via mobile

We spent two nights here. The rooms were a little tight but homely, cute and quaint appointed with old school heavy wooden furniture. The beds were ok - a little lumpy but still ok to get a good nights sleep on and the room was pretty quiet. A great location to get to Zion national park from - just a 5 minute bus journey (or a 20 minute walk if you fancy). Springdale is pretty small and there wasn't much open at night but we visited the local cinema with its mega huge screen which was awesome. Make sure you try the bumbleberry pie in town and mimis is awesome for breakfast :)

There's nothing obviously historic about this motel. Of course it is over-priced because of its great location for Zion National Park. The free and frequent park shuttle stops very nearby to the motel.

Staffing of Reception juggles with running other parts of the business so don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting around for staff. The room was well equipped and clean and the laundry very good. The free WiFi was slow and patchy.

Worst hotel experience ever in my life. Toilet was clogged. This happened after front desk is closed. Rang bell twice for someone to come at front desk and waited for 10 min. No one turned up. Imagine what would happen if I would have come late for check-in. Finally called manager and call went to voice mail. After few minutes he came to the room and handed plunger to me to unclog the toilet. Can you ever expect a customer unclogging toilet of the room.

AC didn't work and I saw a standing fan in the room. Called manager and came to know that their electric circuit cannot take that load and often trip. I called manager 4-5 times and finally gave up when AC could not stay powered on for more than 5-10 min. That was the reason they kept standing fan. This was confirmed by manager himself that fan is kept as they are aware of air conditioner issues.

There was used soil towel from previous occupant still hanging on the back of bathroom door and used soap in shower. Probably housekeeping did not care to remove that.

After paying around $150 what you get is plunger to unclog toilet, loud fan in place of AC, dirty towels and used soap.

I booked through Expedia, manager said that agents (booking sites) keep lot of money and they only get very less portion of it so they cannot compensate for my experience. Is that the reason I was put up in such a room. In that case this lodge should not even be advertised on hotel booking sites. At least do not put up rooms which do not even adhere to the minimum standards.

Room Tip: There are many good hotels near this lodge.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Pioneer Lodge. The room was spacious and clean, with a mini fridge, which was great. We had a nice view of the mountains, and bonus points for the hot tub with a great view. Cute little lodge.

If you are going to Zion National Park park your car in Springdale, Ut and let the NP Shuttle take you everywhere. Centrally located, the Historic Pioneer Lodge offers excellent value and an authentlc old west atmosphere situated perfectly in the middle of town. The restaurant is excellent and the service could not be better. The pool and hot tub while not luxurious, offers a relaxing soak after one of many strenuous Zion Park hikes. If you have the will for it, hike to the top of Angels Landing. Probably one of the highlights of my hiking life (I'm 64 and have hiked 15 of the Rocky Mountain Parks including the Grand Canyon). Angels Landing is the experience of a lifetime. I will go back again and will stay at the Pioneer

I stayed in room 107. I was bitten by bed bugs and am lucky to be having an extreme allergic reaction. Now at least I can lessen the risk of infecting my own home with them.
When I mentioned to the staff that I was bit, they acted like the had never had bed bug complaints (not true- there are several other reviews online) and not only that but they were replacing all the bedding with brand new bedding (that tells me they knew they had a problem).
I actually found 2 of the creatures in my bed so it is a 100% confirmation.

The Pioneer is located right in the heart of Springdale however to far to walk to the park. Right next to numerous restaurants, laundry, ice cream shop, pizza/noodle place, retail stores, art gallery, grocery store. They even have a decent breakfast place that will give you 50% off if stayiing at the hotel. I did not use the pool and hottub so can't really say anything about it. The one thing was the internet connection sucked. I got a connection about 50% of the time and was no rhyme or reason why i could not get on given the fact that they have like 5 different networks based on what my laptop kept pulling up. Good comfy beds, nice showers, bathroom area so cant complain but always do a bit of work when I'm out of town and like to have an internet connection. I guess I just don't understand why in 2014 some place has bad internet.

Great location and great price otherwise and would recommend this place as a budget friendly hotel for travelers. I stayed in the 223 which is on the north side of the hotel that points to the south so not much of a view however my buddies stayed in 201 which faces north/northeast and had stunning views.

I guess the view does not matter though as I am typically out the door in the park canyoneering by 7 and not usually back in the room till after its dark.
