Before I start my comment, I would like to indicate that our choice to stay at Margarita Studios was purely based on the positive reviews that we read on Trip Advisor. That has since served as a valuable lesson for us: we will never again rely solely on the comments that visitors leave here in our choice of hotel accommodations. To the point that I am questioning whether visitors are actually the ones commenting on their experiences at Margarita Studios or whether the personnel/owners are not largely ensuring their own self-promotion through this web site!!! Margarita Studios is a horrific place to stay. Now let me tell you what why.
A family of 4, we arrived late at night following a long trip. Stella's unsmiling, unhappy son greeted us when we arrived. The welcome was anything but warm.... But I brushed that aside expecting to be comforted by our awaiting room. We walked in the darkness with our large suitcases/bags (barely assisted) to our grimy room. When I walked in, I twas dumbfounded by what I saw! Literally! My jaw dropped and I opened and shut my eyes several times to ensure I wasn't dreaming. Unfortunately I wasn't. So I turned to Stella's son, incredulous, and asked, "Are we at Margarita Studios? Is this Stella's hotel?" The truth being that Stella and I had corresponded by email in preparation for our trip and she had been thoroughly friendly and responsive. It seemed absolutely impossible that THIS was her place. Her unhappy son assured me we were at the right place and left us with barely a good night. The room was awful. Old, dirty, charmless. The lighting was bad. The fridge was terribly loud (we could not sleep and therefore wound up unplugging it). The bathroom was tiny, old and dirty. I was shocked. After trying to show enthusiasm to my children, I put them to bed in their minuscule couches-turn-into-beds, and once they were asleep, my husband and I decided that we would demand a better room in the morning.
This we managed. Only the new room was barely better. I asked Stella to show me the rooms you could see on the website- I began questioning whether they actually existed! They did (2 of them, the pink and the green suites), but unfortunately they were taken for a few more days by other travelers. So we stayed in disgusting room #2 for another few nights before managing to transfer to one of the suites. We paid substantially more for it, but anything to get us into a decent room!.
In total, we stayed at Margarita Studios for 2 weeks. We desperately wished we had booked next door at Stella's sister in law's hotel which was brand new, clean and perfectly kept. Not to mention that she was so much more friendly. Stella and the rest of her family seemed so unhappy! Never a smile. Barely a hello. I hate to be critical, but I feel that visitors of Trip Advisor should be warned. I only wish I had read a negative review before making my choice- it would have raised my suspicion and possible avoided our negative hotel experience....
Paros was lovely. We had rented a car so managed to see many of the villages on the island (as well as Anti Paros). The beaches were lovely. The water was extremely clean everywhere- no plastic bottles or plastic bags ruining the Mediterranean environment here. Outside of Naoussa, we found Paros to be largely visited by Greeks, which was a pleasant surprise.
Naoussa was very touristy, but we loved going there for strolls and ice cream in the evenings.
All in all, we loved our Paros holiday. If only we had made a better choice of hotel....
