Kandanos is a pretty town with a poignant history. Don't drive straight through. Stop. Look at the Church and the monument to the Martyrs and take a bite at the Plateia Taverna in the town square under the pergola and you won't be disappointed!
The food here is excellent, consists of many local specialities and is not to be missed. I rate the kalitsounias [cheese and spinach pies] as the best ever - and I have eaten a multitude.
The pork is home reared by owner Adoni. It is sweet and succulent. The lamb burgers are rich in meat and mint. Lamb stew [Tsigariasto] is a favourite. Most of the food is home grown and they produce their own wine and most excellent, good raki. Samantha is charming and friendly, speaks perfect English and will make you feel really welcome. And it won't break the bank!
